argentine teams have been struggling to compete internationally for several years because of economics, nobody sane expected river or boca to do anything at this WC.. the brazilian teams have more than double the budget, the european teams 10x more..

boca actually managed to compete pretty well for a team that changed coach immediately before the CWC and had stars injured, obviously failed tying vs auckland city :lol but even if they had won 10-0 they would have still gone out, the game they failed was vs benfica up 2-0 with an extra player.. River should have done better considering their group and big investments in their squad

overall though, conmebol has been great, top scorers and assists are still mostly south american, most coaches are south american, this is still a sport dominated by south americans despite the huge money disadvantage

At 40 Ronaldo's still the highest paid athlete in the world and just won another NT trophy scoring in 8 of 9 matches including the semi and final :downspin:

The discussion got ethered in that World Cup. Argentina were comfortably the best team of that WC and you know it. Ronaldo being the highest paid player in the world? He got BANISHED from Europe. NOBODY wanted him. Portugal are at their best when he’s on the sidelines. Mendes has been CARRYING Portugal in that NT. A tournament that didn’t even exist 15 years ago by the way. Who cares for Copa, or NT, Ronaldo with ZERO knockout WC goals or assists despite having the most WC appearances in history is beyond sad.

He’s a luxury player whose ego led to him destroying his legacy. Stat padding in Saudi while taking his team
To the lowest lows. Ronaldo had never ever had even close to player of the tourney like Messi has done countless times. Ronaldo has been carried hard by Pepe and mendes. Argentina have had awesome performances from di Maria and mascherano but everyone and their mother knows Messi was the best player for them. Switch Messi out with Ronaldo and Argentina don’t get past the group stage. Ronaldo gets cucked by non European teams ALL the time whether it’s chile Morroco or Uruguay. Argentina mashed euro winners Italy 3-0.

It’s over bynumite, WC ethered the whole convo while Ronaldo got BENCHED in that tourney. Can’t think of any player in history where he can get injured so much on the biggest stage and his teammates always see it through. No surprise Ronaldo face planted and took Juve to their lowest lows in a decade, Saudi team to its lowest trophy haul despite 500M in spending and banished from Europe with everyone sick of his diva crap.

BENCHnaldo is over. ZERO player of the match on ANY nations league game this year. He’s a bench warmer parading as a starter due to his hissy fits. The fact that you even attempt to have this discussion after the WC shows your copium. Just one L after another for you year after year. It’s OVA

That still didn't prevent us from beating them more than they beat us when the money was equal. Either way, I said Argentina, but I was clearly speaking of behalf of South American football in general (or Argentina and Brazil, if you prefer). If it wasn't for economics, SA club's > European ones.

What the fuck are you talking about? :lol

Yall motherfuckers are making my head hurt. How difficult can it be to grasp a simple concept? :lol

My point is pretty simple: if South American and European teams had the same money, South Americans would beat the European teams more often than not. How do I know this? Because that's what happened until the Bosman Law.

Europeans always had more money than us, that's why they always took our best players (Distefano, Sivori, Maradona, etc.), but taking our best players wasn't enough for them to beat us, since, even with that advantage, South Americans still beat Europeans the majority of the time. It wasn't untill the Bosman Law, where European teams could field teams composed 100% by foreigners if they wanted, that the thing started to change. Basically, it wasn't enough to take our best players, they had to take ALL of our players to start beating us. :lol

They never proved it, South America did. Many African countries are just as rich, or richer, than many South American countries . If their football clubs aren't as rich as their South Americans counterparts, it is because their football culture isn't as big. River and boca shouldn't be as big and as rich as they are, considering they are part of a broke as fuck, shitty ass thirld World country; but since football is bigger than religion here (not an exageration), they still manage to economically outperform the country they are a part of.

This is all in response of Bynumite saying lack of skill and "untiquated" football is the reason South Americans team lose to the Europeans.

"Lack of skill"? Well, no shit, when they took all our talent. Even then, with the shit that is left we still play them even. Imagine those shitty portuguese teams having to get by on this tournament with their 5th or 6th stringers. :lol

Untiquated football? Argentina, by the numbers, is the country with the most successful coaches in the World. Get Guardiola or Luis Enrique to manage these 5th tier talents and see if they could do any better. :lol

River Plate competes with South American teams just fine, that's why they qualified for this World Cup. River having a bigger budget than the top Brazilian clubs is just a big fat lie, which I don't know if you are repeating just 'cause you are trolling or because you are so retarded that you can't understand simple concepts such as the fact that spending more money on a given transfer window doesn't mean you have a bigger budget, tbh.

Like I said, you can cope as much as you want, the reality is River as outspent Fluminense significantly for several transfer windows now, Fluminense won a Libertadores 2 seasons ago and is hanging and beating european giants, River is not. If you have a built base, you don't need to be spending. But how did you build that base in the first place? Spending a lot, competing against other teams (among those River) and winning the bidding war. Keeping your players because you can sign them to contracts that no other country in the region can match and so on.

River did as expected, they thoroughly dominated Monterrey, the ball just didn't go in. Losing Driussi on the first match was a killer, Borja is beyond useless.

lol not being able to beat a bunch of plumbers. :lol

It's enough with bynumite being stupid don't pile on, river was the first seed of their group and Boca the third, that's why you got 1 European team and we got 2, not to mention as you've been arguing you have a significantly more expensive team than we do. Inter had 3-4 players injured, just lost their coach and tied with Monterrey opening the door for river to win the group, Boca was always praying for a miraculous second place finish

Al hilal is full of players with 20+ transfer fee, a couple for 40 and one for 60 (+ snatched the coach from a team that went to two cl finals in the past few years), they are valued well above most south American teams iirc only flamengo and Palmeiras are above them- I'm glad they beat city at their own oil money game, but that doesn't make them contenders, football is a game where upsets are common but it's another story to string together 3-4 in a row and win a tournament- im rooting for them and flu and Palmeiras but it will be very difficult for all of them

A euro team will likely win this tournament and daf is right that that's only because they are full of non European players because they have the most money, before Bosman south American teams had a clear advantage despite having their best players poached

As if Monterrey didn't have an extremely more expensive roster than us too. Sergio Ramos probably earns more than our entire roster combined. :lol

I would agree with you if we would have played against one of the shitty teams from the third seeded bowl, but we played Monterrey, which was always supossed to play us even. Even then, we deserved to beat them, ball just didn't go in.

You say it yourself, I know two argentinians teams couldn't be in the same group, but (aside from typical rivalry shit), do you think it would have been some kind of embarrasement for River or boca to be eliminated from a group in favour of the other, when they are the same tier of teams? Of course not.

Embarrasment is not beating an amateur team, tbh. :lol

South Americans have a chip on their shoulder when facing Europeans and this is understandable & good for the game. Our culture has become lazy (from the field to the fans) for numerous reasons and we need to be reminded we do not currently hold the World Cup. Toast.

Epic. Are you planning to attend the World Cup or see how this goes?

I read horror stories at Pasadena Rose Bowl. Seems the event hired their own security and logistics. Closing certain gates and forcing bottle jam on an afternoon heat.- many didnt get into event until 70th minute or later

I attended Rose Bowl playoff back 2 back years and had drastic different enjoyment.

I’d be more concerned if we were playing a South American club in the final. Those thugs just rush the entrance and fight their way in without tickets, and trash the stadium (ie Copa America). With 2 European clubs it will be fine. And yes I’m sure I’ll make at least one World Cup game next summer. Houston, Dallas and Atlanta are all easy drives from NOLA so it won’t take much planning.
