argentine teams have been struggling to compete internationally for several years because of economics, nobody sane expected river or boca to do anything at this WC.. the brazilian teams have more than double the budget, the european teams 10x more..

boca actually managed to compete pretty well for a team that changed coach immediately before the CWC and had stars injured, obviously failed tying vs auckland city but even if they had won 10-0 they would have still gone out, the game they failed was vs benfica up 2-0 with an extra player.. River should have done better considering their group and big investments in their squad

overall though, conmebol has been great, top scorers and assists are still mostly south american, most coaches are south american, this is still a sport dominated by south americans despite the huge money disadvantage

River did as expected, they thoroughly dominated Monterrey, the ball just didn't go in. Losing Driussi on the first match was a killer, Borja is beyond useless.
