The techno musician made headlines a few years back when he accused the rapper of promoting homophobia with his songs. Now, Moby is telling Eminem and anyone who promotes his “misogynistic” music: “you have blood on your hands.”

Moby’s outrage stems largely from a recent case in which an Eminem fan and impersonator recently was convicted of murdering a woman and stuffing her in a suitcase. The man had just finished a karaoke performance singing Eminem’s music. In his video, “Stan,” Eminem murders a woman he put in the trunk of a car.

“If a musician made a record wherein he talked about killing blacks and Jews would he get covered in the press and played on radio and MTV? If the answer is ‘no’ (as it should be), then why is radio and MTV filled with music that has lyrics about killing and brutalizing women and gays?” Moby asks on his Web site. “Any employee of a record company or journalist or radio programmer or MTV employee who has promoted and celebrated misogynistic or homophobic music should be ashamed. You have blood on your hands, and you should be deeply, deeply troubled at the culture that you’ve helped to create.”

Regarding the murder case, Eminem has joked that he’s “completely innocent. I should be cleared of all charges” and has said that the “hype” surrounding the case should be good for his career.

Crime is crime, and speech is speech. Short of inciting a riot, speech is still free for the time being, but are misogynistic and homophobic lyrics crossing an ethical line?

eh, they're both pussies, but one pop-star accusing another of 'having blood on his hands' for writing lyrics is hilarious.

I don't think performers should be blamed because their fans are psyschopaths. If this kid wasn't listening to Eminem, he'd be mindlessly following some other pop icon. Some people are just fucked up and it has nothing to do with what they listen to or watch.

I don't believe in censorship but i do find the level of misogony inherent in our culture revolting.

I am sure if a christian preacher said what some of this guys are saying... they'd be hung by the liberal media press... funny how some can't stomach to criticize their own.. lol

One is free to sing or rap what you want. The music industry is free not to play it if they choose. That is not censorship.

It becomes censorship if the government begins to tell them what they can play.....or cannot play.

Call me old school....but I just don't understand how Eminem or any of that genre sell their "music".

I remember the uproar when Charlie Daniels told the Devil he was a Son Of A bitch on the radio and had to change it to "son of a gun" to be played on AM radio.

If you don't like the material that is out there.....don't buy it....it is that easy...the big record comapnies put it out because people buy it. If there was no market for it, that crap wold never even see the light of the studio to record it in.

The most Ironic thing of all is that Eminem is the biggest pussy seen in the countryside since Matt Leinart. Seriously, Who the fuck fears this guy? Who thinks he has the balls or the streetness to kill anyone, let alone a chick?

He's such a fucking poser. The reason I think he gets airtime is because behind everyone's fascination with him they know he's just a stupid high-pitched white poser that is a mediocre MC at best.

Some of the lyrics these songwriters sing is pure crap.

It would be totally wrong to censor or punish Eminem, because the stuff he says has been said for years, by many other artists. Plus, he'd thrive on such censorship and turn it into more records sold.

Who can take this fucking high pitched pansy seriously? If he was very very ugly, but equally as muscular, and had a non-high pitched whiny rapping voice, he'd have more cred, but be far less popular. Most people who listen to him are teenybopper school girls.

Eminem deserves to be brutally beaten down for the introduction of 50 Cent alone. But to censor him is to only make him stronger.

Eminem has killed many boys and girls. Moby has bored many boys and girls.
Both will become very rich has-beens and live happily ever after. So much of pop war.

If i kill a guy listening about killing a guy, would it matter what I was listening? American Psycho was listening Hip to be Square, by someone and the News when he did his act. Pop is just here for crazy fucks to chill.

Actually, the premise of 'Stan' is that a fan is writing letters to Eminem, and he hasn't responded - the kid takes it personally, goes off the deep end, and kills his girlfriend.

Eminem gets all his crazy letters, and writes him back telling him not to do crazy stuff, and finds out he was too late.

So, Eminem actually never killed anyone in the video/song/etc. He was trying to discourage it.

1. No one really cares about lyrics, as long someone uses motives of killings.

2. Defending art is like defending a waterfall. Water doesn't care.

I'll serve your ass like John MacEnroe
If your steps up, I'm smacking the ho
Word to your moms I came to drop bombs
I got more rhymes than the bible's got psalms
And just like the Prodigal Son I've returned
Anyone stepping to me you'll get burned
Cause I got lyrics and you ain't got none
So if you come to battle bring a shotgun
But if you do you're a fool, cause I duel to the death
Try and step to me you'll take your last breath
I gots the skill, come get your fill
Cause when I shoot ta give, I shoot to kill

i am an eminem fan, but moby does have a point about the obscene negativatiy towards women in most rap songs, along with the promotion of violence.

rap music preaching ho's and bling and drug use is a detriment to mankind.

where is the outrage that the negative messages in the this music are keeping people mired in mediocrity. chasing pussy. chasing cash. being insecure and having to carry weapons. disrepsecting everyone that tells them what to do. And most often? Cuz their fathers were no where to be found. How sad. But the cycle continues, generation, after generation. And this is for all races people. Ignorance doesn't know skin color. It's universal.

All that said? i will not pretend that i don't listen to it.

i love dre, snoop, biggie, eminem...

but NOW? i'm drawn to Kanye and Mase.

People don't seem to realize that the riches on earth don't mean shit.

Bottomline? as long as people buy the shit.
the rappers/producers will make the shit.

The only thing that matters is the loot when it comes to the entertainment industry.

i have come to the realization that myself and all the other rappers out there are Present Day Prophets. It will be upto you to decide which are the true and which are the false ones. Just fyi.

And while i understand what Moby is saying, I thought about it, and he might want to think about taking some responsibility for all the kids dying on X, at all night raves listening to his techno crap...:( i mean, if he's gonna point fingers at eminem for what other crazy people do...

i mean hell, Hendrix sang Hey Joe about a man going to kill his ol lady, but people love that song...what gives?

From what I have read about both of them, this is a bit unfair to Moby.

Moby is a thinker and holds himself to a much higher ethical and moral standard than Eminem ever will.

I will admit to liking one or two of Em's songs, but the vast majority of it represents someone with the emotional and intellectual development of a 13-year old.

One is a guy I would loan money to, or trust to watch my kid, and the other,... isn't.

2. Defending art is like defending a waterfall. Water doesn't care.

I'm not defending Eminem - but in the main article, one line is "In his video, “Stan,” Eminem murders a woman he put in the trunk of a car." I'm just saying that's not what happened in the video - irrelevant as it is in the argument.
