Look at the big picture, what did our defense do to their offense? Does this game really mean THAT much? We won five games in a row before this, we have to lose eventually. I'd gladly take one loss for every five games won in a season. A lot of teams are desperately crawling to the playoff spot... while Spurs fans here are bickering about losing a close, yet meaningless game, after winning five in a row before it.

The margin for error was very slim at the end of a tight Suns home game. The Spurs D'd up very nicely to take a lead on Horry's two 3s. When the Suns hit a couple of big shots, the Spurs made a couple of mistakes that cost them the game. Timmy knew he blew it with that turnover. Yes Diaw fouled Timmy on that last feed on the post but I thought NVE should have taken the 3 there.
All in all, I was pleased with the effort the Spurs reached down for in the 4th. I was disappointed with the mental errors/turnovers. They obviously lost some of their energy to close out the 3rd and early 4th pd. The loss stings a bit but then again, I didn't expect the Spurs to win tonight.

The Suns need to get credit. Remember, the moves they made in the offseason were specifically made to target the Spurs. They've always recognized that success and a championship goes through San Antonio. The defensive game in Phoenix is represented by the additions of Bell, Thomas, and Diaw. Imagine what this team could be doing if Amare were playing.

That's like saying Bill Russell sucked at defense. Russell only sucked at D when he faced Wilt. Funny how Amare averaged 38.7 ppg last season when playing the Spurs while Duncan averages 23 ppg a game when he faced Amare. But Amare is the poorer defender...
http://images.sportsline.com/u/photos/basketball/nba/img8520575.jpg
Considering that Amare shot 55.9% from the field last year, how would him taking shots away from a team full of outside shooters hurt the team? He averaged almost 10 free throw attempts a game last year. The Suns average only 17.7 attempts as a team this season. You do the math.

diaw would be playing a lot less if amare would be around, and i don't think that would be good for the suns overall. i think his increase in production is directly related to his sharp increase in minutes.

amare is a piss poor defender. and i don't know where you get off insinuating duncan is a poor defender, seeing as he is a perennial all defensive first team member. duncan doesn't even guard amare most of the time, if you actually watched the games you would know that. not saying he would have stopped him cold, but duncan does not guard amare until later in the game.

So, for the record, you are saying that the Suns are a better team with Diaw instead of Amare? Diaw has been important for the Suns doing so well without Amare, but the Suns are a better team WITH Amare. Diaw plays all 5 positions for the Suns. He would still be playing with Amare in the game. Especially with the fould Thomas picks up.
Spurs fans out of all fans outside of Phoenix should have the most respect for Stoudemire.

amare is a piss poor defender. and i don't know where you get off insinuating duncan is a poor defender, seeing as he is a perennial all defensive first team member. duncan doesn't even guard amare most of the time, if you actually watched the games you would know that. not saying he would have stopped him cold, but duncan does not guard amare until later in the game. No, that's my point. Duncan is an excellent defender. I was trying to counter the logic. Amare's "defense" is a product of his environment. The Suns play a fast paced run and gun style. The nature of their team is to score and think about defense later. Garnett would look like a poor defender on the stat sheet if he played for the Suns. Despite the fact that Amare is usually the first person running down the court in transition offense he manages to average between 9 and 10 rebounds despite playing alongside Marion who averaged over 11 last season.
And Duncan does guard Amare--it's Amare who doesn't guard Duncan. Why would Pops not have his best defender on the guy who eats the Spurs alive?

wich is why they are a good regular season team.
That simple.

Because Bowen is too small?

rasho or nazr always starts out on amare so duncan doesn't pick up early fouls. where's your logic? and i wasn't saying diaw is better than amare, just that he is probably more effective when he is getting a lot of pt, which he won't be getting as much of when amare comes back. diaw can guard just about any position, can't he? having someone like that on the court more would seem to help defensively.

Pop,
START MANU. The Spurs need his energy all the time, not just limited minutes off the bench. Start the same starters as last year.
