Sixers trade Hunter to Hornets
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Sixers traded center Steven Hunter to the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets for second round picks in the 2006 and 2007 NBA Drafts.

With starting center Samuel Dalembert injured in the off-season, Hunter started the first 13 games of the season for the Sixers, shooting 51.4 percent from the field and 60.9 percent from the free-throw line. In 38 games this season, the 7-footer averaged 4.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 0.95 blocks in 17.7 minutes per game.

For his career, Hunter has appeared in 259 games with Orlando, Phoenix and Philadelphia.

The Sixers also signed center Zendon Hamilton to a 10-day contract. Hamilton played 45 games for the 76ers during the 2003-04 season.

Why would the Sixers do that? Their bench is already weak...why would you trade away a bench player without at least getting back a player NOW. AI isn't getting any younger...:rolleyes

That's good for NOH - they got two decent bigs (Hunter, Williams) at the cost of only 4 picks.

Hunter could probably be a starter with the right coach. I suggested Hunter for the Spurs in another thread. Maybe he'll be available for a trade this summer. :smokin

That's a cheap price to pay for Hunter. Too bad the Spurs couldn't get in on that action.

One less potential destination for Rasho or Mohammed.

If they are skittish about 10 day contracts...

Nazr and Rasho are both better than Hunter.

Relax... the Sixers got a 2.8m trade exception with that to add to the 4.225m trade exception for Marc Jackson in the New Jersey trade... and he wouldn't make a trade for a trade exception and make the bench weaker without already having in mind what to do with the trade exception.

Besides, Hunter didn't get along well with the team nor the staff and he wasn't delivering much from the bench either, so I have no problem with him going. But I am certain that Billy King will make some sort of move soon enough.

Rasho's salary is close to $7 mil...

Yeah that's what I suggested on another thread before realizing that trade exceptions can only be used one at a time. Too bad then.

This is perfect for NO IMO who wants to have a fast breaking offense. Chris Paul can do the same thing for Hunter that Nash did for him. Get him the rock on the break and in a position where he can dunk it. They wont be as lethal as Nash and Amare of course but its essentially the same kind of duo. Fast, agile and athletic big man + a point guard who loves to break out and dish the alleys.

Dallas avoided a cancer in Hunter. Lucky they picked Diop instead.

Diop is the next Mutombo...

He's good for a team that knows no defense.

It's ridiculous we weren't $3.5 million under the cap?

My bad. I thought the Sixers were under the cap. I forgot about the Webber contract.

Hunter is decent. Sort of player the Spurs have never really had. A legit tall guy with incredible athleticism. Sort of project type player I'd like to see the Spurs pick up so he can learn from Timmy.

I'd call up Ken Johnson or just wait for Ian.

True. I take it he left Phoenix for more money, despite it being a good situation for him. Philadelphia seemed like a good spot for him to, I am surprised he didn't make a better go of it.

I was thinking more of a player in Steven's mold than Steven himself. A tall, athletic, raw type to work with the Spurs and practice alongside Timmy and hopefully learn something from him. From all reports that what Ian is which Is why I'm excited about him, he's the sort of player I've been wanting the Spurs to grab for a while now.

Johnson is too old to have much upside anymore. I pimped James Lang in another thread, he's not skinny like the others but his bulk doesn't hide his athleticism. I think he'd fit in pretty well if he could improve his conditioning. He's young enough to be able to do that, right now he's Danny Fortson with hops.

Seriously if the spurs are into trade talks, they better look at dealin with the bulls/hawks or blazers, those teams have alot of SFs that we can look at.
