    Sixers trade Hunter to Hornets
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Sixers traded center Steven Hunter to the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets for second round picks in the 2006 and 2007 NBA Drafts.

With starting center Samuel Dalembert injured in the off-season, Hunter started the first 13 games of the season for the Sixers, shooting 51.4 percent from the field and 60.9 percent from the free-throw line. In 38 games this season, the 7-footer averaged 4.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 0.95 blocks in 17.7 minutes per game.

For his career, Hunter has appeared in 259 games with Orlando, Phoenix and Philadelphia.

The Sixers also signed center Zendon Hamilton to a 10-day contract. Hamilton played 45 games for the 76ers during the 2003-04 season.

Why would the Sixers do that? Their bench is already weak...why would you trade away a bench player without at least getting back a player NOW. AI isn't getting any younger...

That's good for NOH - they got two decent bigs (Hunter, Williams) at the cost of only 4 picks.

Hunter could probably be a starter with the right coach. I suggested Hunter for the Spurs in another thread. Maybe he'll be available for a trade this summer.

That's a cheap price to pay for Hunter. Too bad the Spurs couldn't get in on that action.

Relax... the Sixers got a 2.8m trade exception with that to add to the 4.225m trade exception for Marc Jackson in the New Jersey trade... and he wouldn't make a trade for a trade exception and make the bench weaker without already having in mind what to do with the trade exception.

Besides, Hunter didn't get along well with the team nor the staff and he wasn't delivering much from the bench either, so I have no problem with him going. But I am certain that Billy King will make some sort of move soon enough.

Yeah that's what I suggested on another thread before realizing that trade exceptions can only be used one at a time. Too bad then.

This is perfect for NO IMO who wants to have a fast breaking offense. Chris Paul can do the same thing for Hunter that Nash did for him. Get him the rock on the break and in a position where he can dunk it. They wont be as lethal as Nash and Amare of course but its essentially the same kind of duo. Fast, agile and athletic big man + a point guard who loves to break out and dish the alleys.

Dallas avoided a cancer in Hunter. Lucky they picked Diop instead.

    Diop is the next Mutombo...

He's good for a team that knows no defense.
