Good. Niether was Rasho. Our two 7 footers stay and we have a nice frontman rotation.

Are there any decent big men on the market this summer?

Ben Wallace

Other than that, there are guys starting with Lorenzen Wright and going on down to Olowokandi. The Spurs could pick up a bench guy like a Reggie Evans but there's not much out there in their range.

Where are all those Spurs fans who used to complain about David Robinson? The Spurs' current eight centers combined aren't as good as David now sitting in row two.

Where are the fans who complained about Malik? He could muster more than 3 boards in 20 minutes a night.

Malik was good in SA his first few years, then he tried to convert from the scrappy hustle player into the mid range jump shooting forward/blackhole

Problem is, the Spurs wanted him to take those shots. Then they held that contract over him when he could've gone to LA in 2002.

Spurs wanted him to make those shots, face it, malik was Jaren Jackson 2k5

He did so in SA. Certainly better than Pillsbury #8.

What? He still played hard and was in shape. That contract was the be and end all of his problems in SA. If he was signed to a 4 year $12 mil deal he'd still be the Spurs primary big reserve and buds with Pop.

Yet, he managed to do a decent job at it. Spurs fans seem to forget how well Malik played vis a vis the Spurs current bigs.

That's one more than the Spurs current reserve big can average in 20 minutes.

malik showed a great effort playing with his jersey over his head. trading him was the best trade the spurs have made in a long time.

kskonn
02-24-2006, 10:41 AM
Yea except malik was traded for Nazr not rasho, so I would say it was a good trade.

If I recall the spurs did not want malik taking all of those shots, I remember Pop making the comment that Malik was to worried about earning his contract rather than doing the things that got him the contract.

I fully agree that he did more with his size than rasho does with his, but I do remember Malik getting abused in the low block a lot more than rasho.

just to note, malik was a 4.7 a game rebounder in his time with the spurs.

What's funny is no one mentioned-- Nazr got his first start and what did he get-- 5 rebounds- and 2 of those were in garbage time at the end. The great rebounder had one rebound at half-time. :lol Not so easy grabbing boards when you play alongside Tim and against the other teams first string- huh? Rasho and Oberto looked like rebounding machines playing against the bench, too!!

He wasn't playing that way, he did it after he made a bad play. I agree that they should not do that, and I understand why Pop doesn't like it (I don't like it, either)...but, having said that...I have seen both Timmy and Tony do the same thing...this season...with no consequences. Timmy did it when he turned the ball over and Tony did it when he missed an easy basket. I think it's a knee-jerk reflex thing.

the reason it stuck out in my mind is him doing that led directly to a basket on the other end. i have watched most spurs games this year, and listened to all and i cannot recall tim or tony pulling their jersey up over their head and standing still on the court not making an effort to get back.

I remember it the same way. the punishment was more because he let it
cost them at the other end of the court not so much because the jersey was over his head. I have only see Tim and Tony do it when the ball was dead not in the middle of the game.

There have been at least 2-3 times this year that I have seen Tim not get back because he was arguing a non-call. Manu, too.

Everybody does it. The best ones minimize how much they do it.

I agree. I haven't seen many games at all lately but even recently I've seen Tim swing his arm while the remaining 9 players are running and I've seen tony throw up both his hands and look at the ref while the other 9 players are running
