An EXCELLENT W.

Yea, whatever. These losses are frustrating. Right now I don't know if it's the Spurs or the Mavs. The Mavs certainly looked like they were off tonight and Bowen "shut down" Dirk but I don't think I am making any bold comment by saying Bowen fouls just about every possesion. Good game guys, see you in a month and then in the 2nd round of the playoffs. I hate ugly games like these and I hope we don't play like that in the playoffs against SA.

Spurs owned the Mavs in the 2nd half
Avery is playing Stackhouse and Van Horn too much. I would rather see Griffin at PF than Van Horn. Also Stackhouse is a selfish mofo. Daniels never got a chance. Diop was awesome at center but didn't get enough minutes. He was shutting down Duncan but than Dumpier was a step slower and got owned. Avery gets a :td for his rotation in this game.

Josh Howard is the one guy along with Devin Harris that the spurs can't guard. Manu is undersized and weaker than Howard so I feel that matchup highly favors Howard. If Bowen, Horry, and Finley didn't go crazy tonight and Howard being in foul trouble along with Harris not playing, Dallas could've taken this game. Congrats to the spurs but in no way do I feel the spurs own the mavs.

Kinda like they let JTerry and Dirk get away with pushing their defender away with forearms.

These were the things you said 3 days ago:
Link = http://spurstalk.com/forums/showpost.php?p=774976&postcount=40

...the spurs have no one that can guard Dirk. Duncan doesn't have the mobility and Bowen is too small.

Link = http://spurstalk.com/forums/showpost.php?p=775063&postcount=42

haha. Dirk usually makes those shots that he was missing in that game and Josh Howard and Jerry Stackhouse wasn't playing. If Bowen is guarding Dirk not only Dirk will go off but Howard as well. Good luck.

Two days ago ....

Link = http://spurstalk.com/forums/showpost.php?p=776966&postcount=47

Who is going to guard Dirk? Horry was once the guy but he is getting old.

So did Bowen all of a sudden got big in the last couple of days?

Well I don't care. The mavs I feel had control of the game in the first half but somehow San Antonio hanged around. Van Horn though I think really deserves the MVP for the spurs since he let Horry get going.

Horry don't take shit from a piece of shit player like Jerry Stackhouse, who tha fuck is Jerry Stackhouse

The third overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft. He's a two-time All-Star with career averages of 20.1 ppg (13,390), 3.6 rpg (2,533), 3.9 apg (2,699), and 1.01 spg (735) in 694 games in his career.

He led the NBA in total points (2,380) in the 2000-01 season. In that same year, he set the Pistons franchise record for points in a season (29.8), total points, and points in a single game (57 vs. Chicago).

A guy who was asked to score in Philadelphia and did, a guy who came off the bench to let Joe Dumars retire a starter and didn't complain, a guy who played 2nd bananna to Grant Hill, a guy who was asked to score and did, a guy who was asked to be second fiddle to Jordan, and a guy who comes off the bench for this team.A guy who's active in the education and prevention of diabetes. In short, a completely over-looked individual who gained a reputation early on in his career as a selfish player because of some comments he made around negotiation time in 1998.

I thought all that mattered in Detroit was Rings? Horry's got 6 of them btw.

All that matters in the short of it, is rings. I didn't call Jerry Stackhouse a hall-of-famer. Robert Horry has never had to be the "the man" on a team. Stackhouse hasn't been blessed with being on great teams. He was drafted by the Sixers in 1995 when they hadn't been to the playoffs since 1991. He was traded to Detroit which was a complete disaster when he came here, and was on a bad Washington team.

All I know is when the Pistons started winning, he stopped making the All-Star team (2000 and 2001). When the Pistons were getting handed every piece of hardware known (Coach of the Year Rick Carlisle, Sixth Man of the Year Corliss Williamson, Defensive Player of the Year Ben Wallace, All-NBA Ben Wallace and All-Defensive squad Ben Wallace and Cliff Robinson selections), Jerry Stackhouse's name was noticeably absent.

Winning matters a great deal in this town. He won a divisional title, the first since 1990. He won 50 games, the first time since 1997. He shot the Pistons (literally, on his field goal and foul shots in the waning seconds) into their first playoff series win since 1991.

Grant Hill played here from 1995-2000. Do the math yourself. Winning matters, and each year, the expectations increase to the point now that Championships are all that matter. But at the beginning, when the Pistons were 18 games under .500 and placing their faith in Rodney White as the future of the team, when it was Chucky Atkins, Mike Curry, and Cliff Robinson, not Chauncey Billups, Tayshaun Prince, and Rasheed Wallace, it was Jerry Stackhouse who took and made all the big shots. It was Stackhouse that demanded the most defensive attention. And at the time, he had led them to the most successful season since the Bad Boys (2001-02).

Well I'm not supposed to make excuses but yes Devin Harris does. Some people think he should be starting over Terry. He is a better defender, better slasher, and is the quickest player on the court. Terry is still better but Harris matches up better against a player like Parker and can really exploit Van Exel's defense as well.

Viva Las Espuelas

Lmao at Barkley saying the mavs don't always play like this and the spurs do. He has a new excuse everytime the mavs play well. Actually the mavs were missing a lot of shots that they can make. Dirk was rushing and too pumped up that it hurt his offense.
well isn't this a very fine example of the pot calling the kettle black.

He was the main culprit behind their lone win against the Spurs. Guys like him and that Ellis kid with Golden State always cause the Spur D some problems. But Pop and the Spurs were ready for Harris the second time around.

Especially in the second half, I saw a lot of standing around as Dirk worked between the circles on Bowen. That's an awful lot of standing around. Does he initiate the ball movement, push the ball in transition, pressure the ball-handler, all the things a good point guard is supposed to do?

mavsfan1000
03-03-2006, 02:12 AM
Yep that is what Harris does and Terry doesn't. Harris is a pure point guard while Terry is a shooting point guard. I would actually prefer Terry at the 2 guarding Bowen and Harris guarding Parker.

"Double technical" on Horry? What the hell? What are they claiming happened?

I couldn't see well what happened, but I did hear Rob discuss it on the impact show. I can't quote him directly but you'll get this is the gist of it: " I want to apologize to the fans for that. I almost went Mike Tyson for a minute there but stopped myself. It is all cool now."

I thought it was very classy of Rob to offer the apology all on his own like that.

Rob was also great about showing love to the fans. He said that we make a huge impact the way we come out and cheer, that we were a big help to the team, and that the team couldn't do what they do without us.

It was an excellent win by the guys.

Sometimes when games are close like that, I am nervous, but not tonight. I just knew they would come through.

Yep that is what Harris does and Terry doesn't. Harris is a pure point guard while Terry is a shooting point guard. I would actually prefer Terry at the 2 guarding Bowen and Harris guarding Parker.

That makes more sense. From my perspective, despite one game being at home and the other on the road, imagine seeing that Pistons game in the first two weeks of the season, and this one tonight. They don't seem like the same team. And if the Mavs had gone from featuring Dirk more to featuring him exclusively as a shooter, they aren't going to win against San Antonio's set defense.

mavsfan1000
03-03-2006, 02:21 AM
Yeah the mavs played too much 1 on 1. Harris definitely has puts a lot more pressure on the defense and is the mavs best passer. Daniels was a no show along with many other players. Stackhouse though usually sucks so nothing new there but the other players played tentatively and the offense was easily stopped since Dirk tried to do everything but Bowen was all over him.

You play like shit, you lose, that's it nothing else to it.

Congrats to a regular season win that does nothing but tie us, see you in April. I think we're awake now, you can expect a blow out soon.

I'm not sure it's a regular season win that does nothing but tie the teams -- it's a win that gives the Spurs the tiebreaker (for the moment at least). It also is a win that says to the Mavericks that 19 of 21 is good enough only to get you a tie in the standings. Not many teams can go 19-2 and only make up one game while also falling behind for tiebreaker purposes. Nice effort to keep that chin up, but I'm not buying it.

That's funny. The Mavs seemed rather awake at the start of the game. Stop with the lame excuses already.

I expected a loss, this game meant far more to the Spurs than it did to the Mavs. They need this win, they couldn't fall farther behind the Mavs. Honestly what did the Mavs lose with this game? We beat you on April 7 and even if we are tied at the end of season we're in 1st. Anyway like I said enjoy your regular season victory.......... At least we can beat Detroit :lol

What excuse? The Mavs played like crap and deserved to lose. I said as much 2 minutes into the 2nd quarter..........

Well, I was taking my cue from the Mavs fans who sat near me at the game tonight. They were convinced that tonight was a big game for the Mavs.

If the Mavs came in with nothing to lose, it can't be terribly good for that team's confidence to blow a double-digit lead on the road against a supposed rival, to allow that rival to essentially double its first half output in the 3rd quarter, and to allow that rival to shoot north of 60% in the second half. The Mavs had a chance to send a message tonight; in typical Mavs fashion, though, they rolled over and got smoked in the 2nd half.

Right, and of course the opponent had nothing to do with it.

The Mavs are like incarcerated felons -- their failings aren't their fault; somebody screwed them over.

Weren't the Mavs the ones coming into this game with something to prove? I'm not sure where the dire part of the story begins for the Spurs. After all, they're about a decade past getting excited over a March win or loss.

All we need is for a Mav Fan to tell us that they've won the "real championship". Maybe I need to check one of the Bowen threads for that.

BUAHAHAHHA So by theory you should allow about 90 points in a half aganist the Raptors since we blew yo asses out by 37, that's right shut up and don't say anything until you have beaten us.
um. where do i start?.....................

I know mav fans wanted bragging rights on leading the matchup series but this is still only a regular season game. It just hurts to lose to the spurs but I am not ready to give up on this team.

...as to what the Memphis Grizzles said "the Spurs play differently in the playoffs". They're scary and have more focus.

You shld be a lot more concerned, Tim Duncan/Manu didn't play their full potential tonight. TP can do more.

what IF? :blah

Everyone's perception of the Mav's must have changed tonight after watching them implode in the final minutes of the game. When a loss was certain they totally lost their cool for everyone to see nationally. I loved it. I just wish they would have shown that woman Mark Cuban more. I am sure SHE was pissed!

Mavericks : :bang :cuss

Spurs : :smokin :hat :nope Not in our house !

Great pic.

Last night was the best game the Spurs have played by far this year. I knew it in the first few minutes, that they had come to win, and I haven't seen that much focus and commitment out of them this season. It's also the first game where I said to myself that we can actually win the championship if we continue to play at that level.

I liked the fact that we won by so many different guys playing well--Tony, Horry, Nazr, Finley, Barry and of course Bruce--rather than relying on a monster game from any one person. Defense was excellent and the ball movement was nice and fluid. We still allowed too many offensive rebounds, but it's something to work on. Now if we can only get Tim and Manu back to 100%.
