...and I thought it might be this year. :smoking

San Antonio Spurs 1487-1012 .595
Boston Celtics 2809-1940 .591

We passed the Celtics for all time regular season win %, and are now second. They've been in a free-fall since Bird left, and we have been on afterburners since Tim got here. I was looking at my spreadsheet tonight, and if the Spurs win 63 this year, their 5 year running average will be 60 wins. :wow

Congratulations, Spurs.

Now we can set our sights on the Lakers' #1 spot.

I remember a couple of yrs ago that it was about 5% higher than the Spurs, it will take a while for SA to catch them.

It's pretty out of reach. They were 2761-1722 .616 at the end of 2004. It took like 4 years to close a 10 point gap with Boston, and that's with us kicking ass and them sucking ass.

Here's another number that I find pretty remarkable:

Not counting tonight's game, the Spurs and Lakers have played 124 regular season games against each other. The Lakers lead the all-time series 63-61 (though it will apparently soon be 63-62). In those games, the Spurs have outscored LA, but the difference between the teams over 124 games is 7 points. The Spurs have scored 13109 points against LA; the Lakers have scored 13102 points against SA. Talk about a series that has been pretty damned close.

You have a spreadsheet?
Yeah, just to track this chase. The web page I had found only had totals thru 2002, so I used those as my starting point. I had to then research the last 4 years of wins and losses for the two teams, and added in the year to date records.
