It looks like me to be the lower half of the ship from Flight of the Navigator, when it morphs into super fast mode.

Stupid ass toll road...
The said it will cost people that drive on it to work over $1000 a year..
But they let developers build on pristine recharge land at will.
281 looks like shit now compared to just 2 years ago. Used to be a nice scenic drive now it's Houston Jr.

At 45 max with stop signs. You have to pay to go 65-70 and pass up the stops..
They are building LOT of new roads and hwy in Texas off our Dime.. we pay same taxes as everyone when we get that sticker every year.
Only reason for toll is to put hand in people's pocket. We could expand it to 4 lanes and put some bridges at a couple lights without tolls.

They're building toll roads in lieu of raising the gasoline tax.

You fell for that? It's bullshit...
They been pouring OUR money all over the place in Texas and they knew for years about 281. There is already a plan to widen 281 on the books.
Listen up.. there is enough money to fix it without toll roads.
And the toll roads have NO ENDING.. EVER.. they never stop collecting tolls. .not after it's paid. A foreign company will also be running the toll system! and collecting some of the money!

There's enough money to build the roads... if you're willing to wait 20 years for funding to become available. The state budget is finite. The gasoline tax is fixed and loses value each year due to inflation, so we end up with less money to fund roads in a growing state.
The tolls don't go away... your taxes don't go down either. Except you never have a choice whether or not to pay taxes. If you don't drive on the toll road, your tires don't beat up the pavement, and you don't have to pay to maintain it.
I think it's questionable when they use the tolls to fund new construction of projects that aren't economically justified on their own. I totally disapprove of any plans to erect toll booths on previously free existing lanes.
But user fees are the way of the future to get needed roads built more quickly. That way, I pay for the highways I need to use, and you pay for the highways you need to use. You act like you're entitled to free roads as a handout or something. Typical.

We pay road Taxes already. Did I say free roads? We don't need toll roads. Don't fall for the bullshit they are feeding. And we don't have to wait 20 years. TxDOT can redirect funding. People are just letting them walk all over the northsiders that live in the area.
They could easily put in a rule that when the road cost is paid back the tolls cease. It's a double taxation.

You appear to be impaired in reading comprehension skills. Yes, we already pay road taxes. However, they don't cover the full costs of the roads we need.
I'll try to make it easier. Let's say you buy a 6-pack of beer a day for $6. However, in addition to your existing drinking, you decide you need to drink more, so you want to start getting two-six packs a day. You cannot go to H-E-B, plonk down $6, and use the argument "I already paid for beer" to go get two six-packs.
Likewise, you cannot pay the same amount in taxes, or less actually as inflation chips away, and expect to get an ever-increasing network of roads in the state.
And this "TXDOT can redirect funding" line sounds like you want a handout from the rest of the state's taxpayers. You did not have to pay for the Sam Houston Tollway or George Bush Turnpike, so neither should we have to pay for your new road. If you want existing taxes to pay for it, then wait your turn. If you want it now, build a toll road.
Once the construction bonds are paid off, there are still costs associated with maintaining the road. If the bonds are 30 years in length, by the time they are paid off, if the tolls are kept constant, inflation will have reduced the cost by 70-80%, leaving an appropriate level of maintenance funding.

.
Your talking about New roads. 281 is an existing paid for highway. I am talking about expanding it.
You know what do you even fucking live in the area? I have to live off of my service disability and can't afford the toll.
Is it going to make you happy with me being forced to be a 2nd class citizen in the slow lane?
And don't belive everything you read.. Txdot can cut programs to improve our road. We deserve it. It's an old road and has not had money spent on it in a while.
It just seems like your reading talking points from Txdot and the pro toll people.
Enjoy your toll roads.

Expanding a road means new lanes that cost additional money to build and maintain.
When I don't want to pay the toll, I stay on the service road. I do this all the time if I can afford the extra three or four minutes. I much prefer that to paying more at the pump. It doesn't make me feel like a second-class citizen. If it makes you feel that way, that's your problem. Being on disability doesn't mean you get to play the victim and look for a handout. If that's your game, feel free to vote for Democrats.

Okay Buddy, before we give you the official gate code to the Stone Oak area you have to take "The Stone Oak Personality Assessment Test (http://www.queendom.com/tests/minitests/fx/snob.html)"... just to make sure you're Stone Oak material. :lol

You failed to mention the mandatory Tahoe ownership.
And another thing, until you've lived in Stone Oak for over two years, you are not allowed to drive on Stone Oak Parkway, Or Blanco from 1604 to Huebner.

The city, state, etc, can not toll the current lanes of 1604, the toll lanes for 1604 will be buit in the median,
You do understand that, right?

I was just going to ask that. I always understood you will still be able to go on 1604 tollfree if you choose, correct?

Yes, which makes all this whining stupid.
The toll lanes will be for those who want to use them.
However, the 281 toll road north of 1604 will be toll roads with free travel on the access/frontage roads.

This is how 1604 will be set up:
Current lanes remain free with the toll lanes beig byuilt in the median.
