MannyIsGod
05-31-2006, 05:10 PM
the cleanrs is small. its only a 2 store center. This is after you pass the light at USAA Blvd. It should be easy to find.

MannyIsGod

When I walked past him, he was chillin in front of his car around maybe 4-5 people just talking... it was hard to see his face, but as I walked by he looked at me and I instantly recognized him. I just gave a quick nod and moved on to the cages.

Lovely place I tell you. I've quit and been back at least 5 times and they still hire me. :D

I worked there for about a month when I was in college ... I worked weekend-graveyard, when all of the cheap motherfuckers would call the 800 numbers and not the 900 ones looking to get off.

I had to quit before I got fired ... because I'm just not the kind of person that can hear that kind of stuff and not have a response for it. Seriously, we used to compare notes in the breakroom on how many times we were asked what color panties we were wearing, and how many guys actually got to their happy ending before you figured out what they were doing. :lol

Ayuda me!

So, we're trying to find a different field to practice on, one with an actual infield. I'm looking at the SA Parks & Recreation site here (http://www.sanantonio.gov/sapar/inventory.asp?res=1680&ver=true) but there's just so many!

From that list, I have recognized the following parks:
Kennedy
ML King
McAllister
Southside Lions
Woodlawn Lake

I'd like to find a park central to everyone. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you. :)

mcallister is on 281 just past the airport...that is kinda central to everyone. I think that is where it is at.

Southside lions has a couple pretty nice fields, but it is all the way on the southside.

Why don't we reserve a field at Brack and have a BBQ? I called and they have 2 fields for reservation, one of the fields is available from 8:30-10pm and the other is available any time between 12noon-5:30pm.

What do y'all think?

That's where my son practiced twice a week with his baseball team...they sponsor a team at AHLL. I was actually going to suggest it...but it's right by my house, so it's probably too NE for most everyone.

I just spoke with Barbara and unfortunately the field is reserved starting at 5:30 so we can't practice longer than that. It seems like in the past we've been practicing longer than 1.5 hrs, would y'all mind showing up to the field at 3:30? Perhaps to get more practice in? Just an idea.

Since they use this field for tournaments n'stuff, I'm assuming we'll be able to tell where the bases are supposed to be, too. :lol

Great practice by our team. I see a lot of improvement in the skill level of everybody just from the practices we have been to. Also, consistantly coming to practice shows a lot of dedication and commitment from our players. Katy and now Kori too are doing a great job of running things and keeping us organized. I've been impressed with Matthew and Katy's talent throughout. (something tells me the talent is present in the bloodline) Additionally, all of our girls are good contacts hitters. Plus, we are getting good conditioning from being in the heat.

I think our team will continue upward progress. Good job guys.

SW, are you buying or is it one of those demo bats you get to use for free? Envy's are not really good bats. They take a long time to break in and then only last a short time after they do (although very hot when the do break in), crack/break easliy.

Go here, softballfans.com/forums, they have a great sections on which bats to buy.

Of course if its free, it doesn't matter. They are endloaded, which makes the bat feel heavier than its weight.

SpursWoman

It's a $250 (new) bat that I'm buying at a deep discount. The guys have been banging the hell out of the ball with my Worth 29/22 fastpitch bat, I don't think they'll be too concerned with breaking anything in...it's just that mine is too light.

If you can buy something else, I would. My point on the breakin is, its not a very good bat before the breakin. On that forum I posted, you can get that same bat new for 90-100. Even though its 250 in stores, players won't buy that bat because it won't last.

Yeah, I would stay away from Mizuno, they all have very short life spans. I'm telling you this and I have two. 2006 Mizuno Envy 98mph
ASA Approved 34" 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30oz

Envy

My Own Personal Review of the Mizuno Envy

Mizuno has rebounded nicely from a nearly fatal mistake of releasing a sub par performing blur early in the season. Dont get me wrong, the BLUR wasnt by any means a terrible bat, it just wasnt anything near what the Crush or even Fury/Rage were... The new Envy is everything you would expect from the makers of the crush, and will definately be one of the top selling bats of the new year. It has a great feel, and is amazingly endloaded for an ASA bat... I had no trouble swinging the 27oz bat after swinging my b1 27oz EL for over 4 months... The switch was simple and only took about 4-5 swings to get used to the new bat... The envy has to be broken in, so please give it at least 200 swings before you judge it... Anything before then and you wont be seeing its true performance. This bat is great for all compression balls, as we tested it with .40 375, .44 375, .44 525, .47 525, and even .50 525 balls... It hit them all very well, and was performing even with the crappy .40 cor's... My test model has approx 500 swings on it with no signs of any dents, cracks or other failure. I would say if your looking for a top tier bat, but dont want to spend $300+, then the $249 Envy is the bat for you!

I read another review that it scored over 90 on a 1-100 scale on everything from durability to style....but sound got like a 77 or 80 or something...and why does sound matter? :lol

All of those bats brand new have a 12 month warranty...so if it got messed up after 150 hits, it was defective and should be sent back. We do more than that one time at the batting cages. :fro

After a departure from its Techfire style of bats to build 2004’s 100% composite Blur, Mizuno has returned to the design that made 2003’s Crush the company’s most successful softball bat ever. The 2005 Envy is similar in many ways to the Crush – the 12-inch barrel, thin handle and balanced weighting – with a couple of technological improvements such as the Filament Wound Composite Pipe to replace the aluminum sleeve in the barrel and an expanded Sweet Area to magnify the traditional Techfire sweet spot.

It did not take a lot of swings for our hitters to agree that Mizuno had done what it set out to do with this bat – improve on the still-popular Crush model.

“I think this bat swings better than any of the previous Techfires,” said one reviewer. “It has good pop and good balance. This is one of the better bats you are going to get for the price.”

That is a fair statement as the reviewer being quoted hit a number of low compression balls (.44/375) over of the 350-foot fence at the baseball field we were testing on in 100-degree heat.

The Envy is a great bat across the board – it has a solid feel and swings true to its posted weight, perhaps a bit heavier than other 100% composite bats. The 12-inch barrel has plenty of sweet spot so it doesn’t take long to find it or to get comfortable hitting it. How much the advertised “expanded Sweet Area” helps can’t really be measured, but no one had trouble finding it, not even the guys who hit it right out of the wrapper. The pop is very good, but it is also an effective bat for moving the ball around and hitting hard shots in the 5-6 and 3-4 holes.

For these reasons, all types of hitters liked the bat. Power hitters got plenty of distance. Line drive hitters could push the ball or turn on it into the corner and quickly developed the confidence to do so. There is no sting at all, though balls caught on the end of the barrel sound horrible (even though they don’t really hurt either).

The Envy is is ideal for all types of hitters.

One note: the Envy is designed for use in ASA, but it seems to compete with many other companies’ USSSA-only bats which are not allowed in ASA. It tested well side-by-side with some of the 2005 models.

MannyIsGod
06-05-2006, 04:43 PM
Apparently from what I've read on those forums, the bat is bad ass but the lighter (26-28 oz) crack easier than the 30 oz ones. I'm psyched to take a few with that bat. I'm sure Kris and Chris will be going yard with it.

SpursWoman
06-05-2006, 04:48 PM
The Envy is the 26oz I got ... which is still 4oz heavier and 5 inches longer than the one we've been using. The 30oz is the DeMarini...not quite as pricy as the Mizuno but it's not crap either.

It's an individual sport.

If anything, baseball/softball is the one sport where you CAN single out players and ask who the best is. And good luck dominating, I'll keep my tissues handy to mourn my lost-in-the-mail invitation to play for you guys. (yes, yes, I know there was a thread. Let me bitch.)

What good is one person getting on base if everyone after them strikes out?

It's still a team sport. I have no idea what you guys' fascination is with constantly having to compare people against one another.

kris
06-05-2006, 05:59 PM
There is a lot of individualism when batting, but it's still majorly a team sport. We've got a lot of people that I think will be much improved as they play more and more.

I want to play as best as I can to help the team, but I know I'm going to drop some balls, make some bad throws, strike out and no one on our team will give me a hard time about it - well maybe the striking out, but that's kind of funny in slow pitch softball. :lol

I won't know who the best players are in my mind until we play the games. Games count. Practices just help you get ready for them.

I always like playing with the players that try their hardest and take the game serious, but are good natured about it.

Pecan Valley Drive & Southcross

WW White to Southcross ... that's not too bad for me. That's really far for Kori & LJ.

Its a big family park. There are a ton of people there walking around the community track, and there are a number of fields that are always filled. I've practiced there with my HEB team (a bunch of uptight desk folk), and we have never had any problems.

The Batting Order isn't set.

But I'm leaning toward ...

Kris
Katy
LJ
Sandra
Chris
Whitney
Kurt, Manny or Matthew
Mandy
Kurt, Manny or Matthew
Christy
Pitcher
Girl DH (which as of now might be me)

If Katy wants to book it there, it's fine. It's very far from us, but we don't really care about that.

Does it have to go girl/guy?? or could 3 girls bat, then 3 guys?

SW, could you book the Lions field in the evening on Wed? I think Manny is paying for it this time. :)

I just tried to look to see in the rules about the 12 people batting, I can't find anything. Are we sure about that?

Yes.

Look at number 19 in the rules.

Coed teams may have 12 player batting order (one male and one female designated hitter).

MannyIsGod

Thats a bad ass rule! When I thought we had DHs I thought it was to bat in place of someone. But thats an awesome rule.

I'd be willing to contribute some money for the field. $15?

One of our games I will bring the drinks as well.

I am so excited! Do we have a game time yet?

I am going to try to make another one of your practices. Wednesdays are bad for me because I go to church now with my sister.

No one needs to contribute, I got it. Someone can pickup the next practice and we can rotate.

PS Where does the rule book say what innings are the beer innings?

Yes it is. But you can't add the male DH without adding the female DH. You have to bat 10 or bat 12. That's why I thought it would be good to have the sixth girl, then the sixth guy can bat. More fun for everyone.

Anyway, since we lost Robin, I'm going to practice hitting. If I can hit decent enough, then I'll DH and help Katy coach/manage.

If I win, you can guarantee it's fixed.

Besides, I'm very frugal. I shop at Big Lots for my dinners. I only can allow myself to spend small amounts at a time. Thus, I have 12 8 inch tvs.
