I agree about the journalism thing - but I might give it a try given that I can write and have a technical background that would probably make them cry ... You're in Houston? Anything specific you're looking for? Might be able to ask around, pm me or something.

I like the people in Houston. I have several friends that live there. And I have never run into anyone there who was rude...dumb maybe, but nice. You're right about the air, though. I could live in Galveston. But not Houston. Well, I guess, like you, I would for a million dollars. But, I wouldn't like it.
Actually, I might have applied for the Administrative job (that would fit me like a glove, I could do that job) if I was already retired. But, I have 16 months and a week before I can retire.

The air is less bad on the West sides of town, and you have less hurricane and flood damage potential on the West sides of town (unless you live right on a bayou). You've got some amazing restaurants and more/diverse/better museums and theatres in Houston and more acclaimed higher educational opportunities. Much as I hate this city and want to move 'home' (because I only take advantage of the restaurants), it's not all that bad, you know.
Hell hole, yes, but decent benefits - perhaps like living with the virtuous pagans?

Houston sucks, especially now with all the 'outstanding moral citizens' from New Orleans that relocated there and helped the city's crime rate skyrocket 300%.

The jobs are good. And no not everyone is rude. My personal job experiance there sucked so that's what I base my opinion on. The quality of life is not as good IMO. My uncle lives there.. it's like a giant Kirby with bad traffic..

actually I don't live IN Houston and never would! I live in Pasadena, TX and I can get to Houston in like 15 minutes lol. living in the city would probably suck, that's why I don't. the traffic is terrible, but I used to live in S.A. and my family lives in S.A. and whenever I go, I'm sorry but the traffic in S.A. is just as bad if not worse!

Houston has some things that might suit ones lifestyle over another. My statement "hell hole" was drama... It's not a hell hole.
Depends on the situations I guess... These jobs sound like they pay well and of course are NBA coolness.

plenty to do, people lack the pretentiousness of a dallas or austin, and close to the coast. if you live within the loop you can get most anywhere you'd want to (galleria, downtown, midtown, west u) in no time. plenty of good restaurants and the cost of living isnt bad. minutemaid and reliant are awesome facilities. if you live near pasadena or baytown life may suck. it gets hot here just as it does everywhere else in texas.
rockets fans suck dick though.

I wouldn't doubt the being used to it. One of my friends grew up over there, and can't even smell the Tyson plant right next to Campus because of the smell she grew up around. We drove passed imnute Miad park to a site whiel we were there and we all joked that on our last day that we would skip the house and go to a game, except they weren't it town!

Houston bashers,
Before you continue the bashing, try visiting again. The redone downtown, buffalo bayou area, medical center, midtown, galleria - post oak area create the standard for urban living. Houston has done a complete turnaround in the last few years. San Antonio should take note.

I grew up there, so I know it's not all bad by any means. Houston's art community could kick San Antonio's any day, no joke. I spent the majority of middle and high school in the Montrose area/museum district, and it's a beautiful part of town. Downtown has gotten better since I lived there, and I enjoy visiting - the theatre district is awesome. 59 is FINALLY finished to downtown and traffic there is way better now (it sucked so badly when I was working downtown in high school), and I thank god for the Westpark tollroad and my EZ Pass every time I drive in from SA.
However, nothing will ever change the fact that the air is gross and makes my face break out every time I visit - and the heat and humidity make me feel like I'm in a dirty sauna from the months of April through October.

Luckily for me, if I get the job, is that the Rockets season has no chance of going to May or June.

This is true, and you can hopefully get out of town before you begin melting.
Last week when I was there, my windshield had condensation on it before I even turned the car/AC on. Which reminds me, if you plan on moving there, in the hot months wear contacts because otherwise every time you go from inside to outside they fog up like crazy.

I haven't been inside Minute Maid Park yet, although I do want to go. I have driven past it quite a few times. It just looks strange to me, but I have heard from some of my friends who have been several times that it's the best.

That six percetn average is quite large, and Houston is substaintially more humid than San Antonio.
The two cities have very different climates and it is far from a negligible weather difference. Houston being much closer to the Gulf and being farther east away from the desert means a much wetter climate.

Are you dense? 20 more inches a rain annualy in Houston on average. That is almost TWICE as much as San Antonio. Relative Humidty is a poor measure of the moisture in the air because it is RELATIVE to the temperature. That six percent AVERAGE difference is quite large and Houston is by far more humid than San Antonio.
We'll continue this when you can explain how San Antonio is 20 inches drier a year, and somehow the same climate wise.
