Living in Dallas, all my friends and coworkers are so proud of their Mavs. They especially try to rub it in my face that they're winning in the playoffs(although I've done the same to them for the past decade). So what would you guys use as a quick comeback when they brag about their being in the championship?

I usually tell them that "they need 3 championships to catch up to the Spurs." They don't usually have a comeback for that, but what else would you guys tell them?

tell them congratulations on beating the spurs. not giving them the response they want will probably stunt most of their taunting. taunting people who aren't mad or ashamed when their teams lose is no fun. a manager at my old job was a huge OU fan, i tried to rag on him a couple of times, but gave up when his reponse was always - "well we sucked for so long i'm still just happy we actually won the title a few years ago." he was so good natured about it i quickly gave up and talked stros baseball with him instead, we were both fans.

Spurs lost.

There's not much else you can say.

Find new friends and a new job.

Other than that, how about "what took you gimps so long?" or the ever popular "have you finished the project I assigned you?"

Perhaps you have an "obstructed view" of the hundreds of posts from Spurs fans bitching about how the Mavericks didn't really win and were handed the series by the refs?

Don't use the 3 championship things. That's like what cowboy fans said when they started losing, "but uhhhhhhhh we won 3 superbowls." Really doesn't mean shit because that didn't happen this seasonm all the matters right now is this season.

The Mavs already have....2005-2006 Western Conf Champs.

Plus unless the Heat play out of their minds for 4 games you can add......2005-2006 NBA CHAMPS to it.

The Mavs already have....2005-2006 Western Conf Champs.

By that logic, the Spurs have 6 "somethings."

I've said it elsewhere, I'll say it here. I'm sure that the Mavs fan mantra that past titles mean nothing will change pretty dramatically if they win 2 more games. Then, suddenly, a past title will mean everything -- to them.

Scattered championships don't really count

so if the Mavs win this year, don't repeat, but win again in 2008...it won't count?

Let's face it, the Mavs accomplishments - even if it includes winning the championship - are significant and something to be proud of.

But in the end, I am much more proud to be a Spur fan that has won 3 rings and has been a model of consistency since the early 90's. So no matter what happens, I (we) have alot more to be grateful for than most sports fans, including the Mavs fans in Dallas.

i've used that we're one free agent away from whooping their ass and that it shows how good our core is because 5 of our guys(TD,Tony,Manu,Bruce,Mike) were a couple bad calls and ball bounces away from beating (Dirk,Diop,Damp,Terry,Howard,Stack,Daniels,Harris, Van Horn, and Griffin) so 5 of us were so close to ebating 10 of them and would have if the refs hadn't anal fucked us in games 3 and 4 and kind of in game 7. So just say that it took your whole team and the refs to beat 5 of us, so just think what we'll do when we get better. Play the every dog has his day card, and the mavs did it playing Spurs basketball, because they did. Spurs coach, spurs defense, and spurs staff. So 10 guys playing spurs basketball with the refs on their side barely beat 5 old guys who got fucked by the refs(were injured) and beat themselves due to their worn out bodies because how much their bench sucked. also say 3 ships to one...steve kerr baby steve kerr. They wont get us again, oh yeah and just point out how consistent we've been for close to 20 years, they've been good for like 8. Majority of mavs fans are bandwagon, probably not you guys who post because you take the time to posr about your team but come on yall, these fans weren't there when the Kings beat yall in five.shit. Maybe its cause of the 4 teams in the town you only like them when you're good, and we got one so we love them always. Overall Spurs got fucked and thats the bottom line...cause the whole world even alot of mavs fan i know SAY SO. i guarantee you if the analysts could complain bout the refs they would.

spurs in 07, try cheating again you ref blowing fagots

Congratulate them and note that the Spurs were obviously the best team they played in the post-season, and one point is all it would have taken for them to be on the outside looking in.

You can also thank them for exposing the entire Eastern Conference as frauds.

Exactly. Why talk smack? Spurs/Mavs went 7 games and it came down to the last second of the last game. It doesn't get much better than that. No other team came even close to testing this Mavs team in the playoffs. Dirk is playing out of his friggen mind. They are making a decent Heat team look like scrubs in the finals...I finally turned it off last night because they were killing them so bad it was boring.

It would not surprise me if they swept the Heat in 4 consecutive blowouts.

That being said, I still can't like or root for the Mavs because of Cuban. The man absolutely disgusts me and the thought of him getting a ring is absolutely revolting.

WHY BOTHER? THEY ARE NOT USED TO WINNING AND THEY ACT LIKE IT. (Sorry for the all caps). Of course they will say "what the spurs have done is history' and this is now but I have a feeling once the reg. season starts next yr we will hear how they won the title last year. Funny how when you spout nonsense ,because at the time it serves your purpose, it usually exposes your hypocrisy as well. mark it down the same mav fans that claim the spurs can't use thier history against the mavs this year will be the same ones trying to belittle spurs fans next yr because they won the previous championship.

Win with respect and lose with dignity..seems lost on all of the mav posters here on this board.. Of course once their run ends next yr they will be long gone talking about their past championship...

Agree completely. I'd throw Terry in as someone else I don't want getting a ring, but oh well. What I want doesn't usually affect reality. Just tell the Mavs fans that it hurt to lose to them because it was so very close, but congratulations on the championship (if it happens, as it probably will), and the Mavs can be the next team from Texas to fail to repeat. :spin

You think you've got problems: My 86 year-old mother and 84 year-old aunt are rabid Mav fans. I just have to keep thinking about next year when I tell them:

"You had a great year and beat us in a close series that might well have put the two best teams in the league against each other. I'm rooting for our Texas team in the finals and hope we can improve enough to beat the Mavs next year.

Now may I have my Maypo?"

You know, I really hope that the Mavericks win the championship, just so they can finally feel the weight and burden of having to defend a championship. Maybe then, they will start to have a little respect for what the Spurs have had to deal with, knowing that everyone wants to play their best game against you and not just beat you, but embarrass you. I guarantee you this, if Dallas should win the championship this year, they won't repeat next year. Because they will have lost the hunger they had this year and I doubt they can count on such stellar performances from Terry, Stackhouse, and Howard in the coming year. No, this forthcoming year will prove that the Mav's championship run was a fluke and I can't wait until this one ends and next year begins.

sounds like something Phil Jackson would say about the Spurs

Taking it to the Hole
06-14-2006, 09:08 AM
Weirdly enough, there may be a chance that Phil doesn't mind us so much anymore. I think he may actually realize that for a long time, we were the only competition they had. People forget, we ended their dynasty run. I guess that is what the Mavs are trying to do to us, but in reality the games we had with the Lakers in my mind were the best games to watch as a fan, because you had two different philosophies and coaching styles butting heads. All the Mavs really did was copy us. (thank you avery for telling them all our plays) Basically, Avery was the key for them. You can say what you want about the players but without Avery, they are looking at a first-round exit, maybe second round. That's just the cold hard truth.

Oh, Gee!!
