This guy made $8 million last year and is a free agent this summer. He may need to get a paycut for a longer contract as he draws near to 30.
Sacramento just drafted Quincy Douby and, with their overall guard corps, may not be looking to retain him.
His stats last year:
13.6 ppg 7.7 rpg 2.8 apg 2.4 to/g 1.8 spg
And as well all know, vs. SA in the playoffs:
23 ppg 61% fg 62.5% 3s 12 rpg
With his head screwed on straight and at the MLE, he would be incredible off the bench. Obviously, at least one of those two things is unlikely.
The Spurs need game-changing talent off the bench. Thoughts?

I'm just having this fantasy moment dreaming of how good he'd be if he had a brain/attitude transplant. The guy is freakishly good when he wants to be.

fuck i hope bonzi stays in sac. while i am sure that part of his impressive playoff campaign was due to ensuring a fat payday, i think he really wants to win and can be an absolute beast when the effort and focus are there. i hope he does not go anywhere, he would be sick in a spurs lineup.

Yeah he's never struck me as a "play for the love of the game" kinda guy. He's been in a lot of trouble too. I'll pass. We need Speedy.

Bonzi is another 6th man extrordinaire type to me. He would be an excellent starter too if healthy and focused. But he has had injuries lately and hasn' t been the same player since 2001-02 (until the Spurs series came along). Well actually Bonzi was solid this regular season as well. But he is getting up their in age and he is a walking time bomb.
I doubt he plays near his playoff level ever again in the playoffs. But he still could be a solid contributor on any team.

if he came to sa

it would be his choice it would not be he was forced to the spurs because he demanded to be traded
he is not coming so why even discuss him?

Do you think that the Spurs are like a clique of high school girls that hold grudges? Pretty sure that they run it like more of a business than that. BTW, if getting into it with Bruce Bowen is all it takes to eliminate you as a prospect with the Spurs, then how many others would be counted out? Quite a few.
BTW, the Spurs don't have enough money to sign Bonzi, so I guess this is really a silly discussion.

If the kings offer him the money he will sign with them. They are the only playoff team that has a shot at obtaining him, and for the same money he will play with SAC over the bottom-feeders. I hope he does stay in SAC for his sake - he won't have a chance of doing as well anywhere else. Might as well stay with Artest and Bibby and try to make something happen.

As I remember Popovich has always had a healthy respect for Wells and I think Wells respect Popovich because he can win and knows how to win. I wouldn't write Wells off too quickly, he could be a catalyst for our team. He plays with an attitude and I think we need a guy like that on our team. We need someone who has talent and I think as the twilight of his career is approaching, he asks himself the same question other veterans do, what is more important, winning or money? Wells has money, nooone can say that he doesn't. I think he wants to win and I don't think Sac town is going to give him that anytime soon, so he might bolt if we make a pitch to him.

artest is better post defender, but not on the perimeter. bonzi was just too big for bowen in the post, nothing wrong with that.

Aren't You the guy who's pretty quick to criticize others in another thread (draft prospects) for not keeping up. Dude, he's not in SAC anymore. He signed with Houston for this year.
He's been a thorn in Houston's side all year and just got benched for good for not showing up at a game.

This guy is the type of headcase Pop would never tolerate because he'd be a cancer to the whole team with his attitude. Let some desperate team have him.
