Dude has great size, but has hardly played any ball at all. I'd rather pick up Glyniadakis or James Lang if we're going the minimum salary dreadnaught route.

South African, used to play rugby but grew too tall.
He shouldn't be a complete stiff, and shouldn't be afraid of contact if he played rugby.

From his college bio (http://www.sbuniv.edu/athletics/mbasketball/0506/profiles/steyn.htm):

This guy is big and athletic.
I can see him (or another guy like him, there are maybe better solutions) as our 6th big who will get the 13th roster spot for playoff and will be activated only if we meet Shaq or Yao.

Dude did not rebound the way you want a 7'3" 290lb guy to rebound in Division II.

The new Sean Marks??
Not Really.
Last year we had a lot of bigs to play against Shaq & Yao (Rasho and Nazr), this year we won't have way less players like that.
Lets say we get a starting PF in a trade, our bigs rotation will be :
PF : Starting PF/Bonner/Horry
C : Duncan/Javtokas/Horry
With this rotation, there isn't a lot of bigs to throw against dominant centers.
Having a big guy who will only be activated when we meet Houston or Miami isn't a bad thing (a 6 fouls to give guy).

1 rebond/3min isn't that bad.

1 rebond/3min isn't that bad.Well, call me crazy, but I'd just be happier if he broke the top 75 in boards per game in Division II. That rate just begs the question why he only played 25mpg after practicing there for a year.

That's not the only kid RC has had stay in his home.

Maybe because he gets 1 foul/6min. :lol

....in Division II.
It's nice that RC wants to keep track of this guy, I just hope he isn't taking the spot of someone who could actually play in the league.
That's not the only kid RC has had stay in his home.
That sounded terrible.

....in Division II.
... against 6'5"-6'7" player.
This guy is very big, athletic and doesn't seem to be soft.
If he is able to defend Shaq or Yao 12mpg (without fouling out), I wouldn't mind him as our 6th big.

If a guy his size didn't average 20 and 10 in Division II he has no chance to make it to the NBA.

... against 6'5"-6'7" player. And when he played in a division with players his size he couldn't even get into games.
This guy is very big, athletic and doesn't seem to be soft.I haven't seen any athleticism
If he is able to defend Shaq or Yao 12mpg (without fouling out), I wouldn't mind him as our 6th big.He wouldn't be able to do that for years. I think Glyniadakis is closer to contributing -- and he has a midrange shot

Okay, I'll rephrase it but at the risk of it not making it sound any better. :lol
How about...
I've read that RC and his family have opened their home to another student athlete recently. I have forgotten the name of the kid but he went to school and played basketball locally. He is a center.

Much better.
Wouldn't want anyone to get the wrong idea now would we :lol

Cameroon's Alexis Mang-Ikri Wangmene is the one who lives with RC. He's been here at Central Catholic since his Sophomore year (04-05). I think he's about 6'9 now and he's 17.

This guy is raw and was even rawer few years ago.

Look at his bio, you need to be athletic to be good at shot put.
He wouldn't be able to do that for years. I think Glyniadakis is closer to contributing -- and he has a midrange shot
That's why, I've said if. There likely are better solutions elsewhere even if 7 footers aren't easy to find.

Look at his bio, you need to be athletic to be good at shot put.If a basketball weighed 16 pounds, I'd agree that's a transferable skill.

You need to be quite explosive to be good at shot put, it's not only based on strength.

I think Earl Boykins lifts more than that, and he weights 185 I think.

06-30-2006, 07:56 PM
I'm not going to excuse the guy not being able to do it once...but big tall guys usually aren't that great at bench...
Even if you look at that list, lots of big guys weren't doing as many reps of that weight as the 6'5 shooting guards.
Reminds me of when the Cowboys drafted Alexander Wright and he graded out as the second strongest guy on the team in the bench.
Still, there's no excusing the guy not even doing it once.
Maybe it is so easy for him he thought they wre joking when they asked him,

Maybe N/A means he didnt attempt it and Earl Boykins is famous for being able to bench over 300 lbs. They bring it up like every game I've seen Boykins play in.
