Udrih gets to the hoop kind of like Manu does, without the athletic ability to dunk...and most the time when he stretches for that lefty layup he misses or it gets blocked.

true. but the dude does shoot and hits at a decent percentage for the time he is out there. I think his confidence will grow when he doesn't have a veteran behind him.Plus he is on the cheap making less than a mill a year. Spurs are thrifty spenders you know

Pacers sending Croshere to Mavs
Indiana will receive G Marquis Daniels in exchange for longest-tenured Pacer
The Pacers have agreed to trade Croshere to the Dallas Mavericks for guard Marquis Daniels, according to people with knowledge of the situation.
The deal can't become official until July 12 when teams can complete trades and free agent signings.
Croshere was the longest-tenured Pacer, spending nine seasons with the team. He became expandable with the addition of draftee Shawne Williams and with the Pacers trying to become more athletic. Croshere is also entering the final year of his contract. He averaged 7.5 points and 4.3 rebounds during his career with the Pacers.
Daniels averaged 9.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in three seasons with the Mavericks.
The trade for Daniels is the first of what could be several moves by the Pacers this summer. They're also interested in acquiring former Pacer Al Harrington from the Atlanta Hawks.

Daniels was making way too much money, and he's in Avery's doghouse. To top it off, he's a third-stringer on the depth chart.
I'm not an expert on Croshere's game, but he gave Indiana 8 and 5 in 23 minutes last year as a backup PF, which sounds okay to me.
Why do you think it's such a bad deal?
Cant_Be_Faded
07-05-2006, 09:10 PM
rofl, how did Marquis get so bad? He was just as hyped as Josh Howard after last year's playoffs, then in this year's playoffs every time he gets in the game he turns it over Malik Style.
It was a nazr-esque turnaround for him.

daniels is a great player....but he is one of those guys who needs 20-30 minutes a game to get going.

To address random points in this thread.
First off, the trade was to dump a bad contract. Nothing more. Much like the Spurs didn't trade Radoslav because they think Eric Williams is Bowen's replacement.
Secondly, the Spurs would never have gone after Mike James. Not that I necessarily agree, but let's be real.
James fits their program. Croshere will serve his purpose with his contract and I'm sure he can fit in spots.

Forget the Croshere part, a lot of people in this thread are kidding themselves when they blow off the James signing. The Mavs just got deeper on the perimeter, meanwhile we've got Tony, Manu, and a couple of 30+ year olds.

There has been alot of talk about Terry starting at the 2 next season. They want more scoring at that spot, and also like Terry and Harris playing together. This would leave Harris starting at the 1 with James playing heavy minutes as his backup.
I like both situations for the Mavs. James plays good defense and is a good vet backup at the 1. Croshere is a good replacement for KVH. He can't be any worse in the clutch than KVH, plus he has an expiring contract. KVH is so injury proned, that the Mavs should actually get alot more out of croshere than they ever did from Van Horn. They just want another big man that can help stretch the floor a bit. Daniels was too far down the depth chart and was basically an expensive luxury.
Nothing that is especially exciting, but these are both solid moves for Dallas.

Memphis center Lorenzen Wright and Toronto guard Mike James, both unrestricted free agents, are scheduled to meet with Wolves representatives in the next few days in Las Vegas. The team's summer league entry begins play tonight at the Cox Pavilion on the UNLV campus.
The 6-11 Wright, 30, averaged 5.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 0.59 blocks -- all below his career averages -- in 78 appearances (58 starts). A local guy who also played at the University of Memphis, Wright was said to be disappointed that the Grizzlies have no interest in re-signing him.
Wright recently told the Memphis Commercial Appeal he was seeking at least a three-year contract.
James, 31, has been mentioned for weeks as a player the Wolves might pursue. The 6-2 guard averaged 20.3 points and 5.8 assists for the Raptors, while hitting 44.2 percent of his three-point shots (fourth in the league). Other teams interested in James include Houston and Dallas, with reports that the veteran of six NBA stops is seeking at least the full mid-level exception over five years, worth about $30 million.

1. James is NOT signed. He's in MN today talking to the T-wolves.
2. KVH's contact is DONE. He won't be back. (unless they trade Croshere and bring KVH back for CHEAP)
3. Croshere is similar to KVH, but a little better rebounder.
4. Daniels wasn't going to get PT here and his contract was too much. From a contract / salary standpoint, this trade makes perfect sense for the Mavs. I hope Daniels does well in IN...he's a good guy off the court and he's got talent around the basket. Needs to work on his jumpshot and hopefully have some better luck as far as injuries go.
5. There is always the chance that they'll try to move Croshere and his expiring contract for another piece that they like.

Dallas won't give him 5 years. They've offered 3 years so they might consider adding a 4th year as an option year. All offers being relatively equal, I'm sure Houston has the inside track on James.

Looks like Houston may be the frontrunner. Their dumb asses never should have traded him for Rafer Alston in the first place.
I thought Houston let him go because he was crazy. If they are trying to get him back that must suggest that he's worth the trouble. Guys with lots of talent that bounce from team to team make me nervous, especially when they are looking to get paid.

Hadn't heard the story about him being crazy. Do you have any direct information on that? From some of his recent comments, I can see that being the case.

Well, really, when has it ever been Galloway? :lol
Well yeah, Galloway is another story all together :lol , but I was talking about the ESPN Insider report where one Toronto newspaper says that James is about to sign with Houston and the other Toronto newspaper says that James is meeting with Houston, Dallas & Minny in Vegas today. Both those reports can't be right. Why would James meet with the other teams if he was gonna sign with Houston? Last minute effort to get more time and/or money out of Houston? Maybe?

Update of ESPN Insider:
According to the Toronto Sun, reports indicate that Mike James is close to agreeing to terms with the Houston Rockets.
The Toronto Star reports James is scheduled to meet with representatives from the Dallas Mavericks, Houston and Minnesota Timberwolves in Las Vegas today.
Yeah this thread should be changed.
From the look of thing, it appears M. James is going to Houston, to play with this man >> http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/9072/avatar1399513crazyeyetmac4nv.gif

Something like that.
If you're Houston and you want the guy, you want to sign him before he goes to meet with Minny. Therefore, if you're James's agent, you make arrangements to go there to lock the Houston deal up the way you want it.

I know if I were Mike James that I would go running back to the team that dogged me for Skip To My Lou.

Too much money for a 4th or 5th guard that's for sure. That's why the Mavs traded him for Croshere and his expiring contract.
