Figured I would represent the Lie-downs so as the Detroit folks have someplace to post their woes.

Disgruntled, I am looking at you.

Maybe Kitna will do them some good, with all those WR's they should be decent on offense. That is if they stay healthy.

:lmao

Appreciate the optomism, but these are the Lions. Their linebacking core is non-existent, their CBs are highly overrated and the d-line has one good player.

The offense can score 40 points a game and they would still lose.

Lets not get into offense either. Harrington, while a complete tool and inconsistent, wasnt the problem. The problem was physically allergic players.

These receivers are some of the most sad-sac pieces of uneducated, ghetto trash we have ever had the disservice of having paraded around town.

TO is smart. Rogers/Williams are dumb beyond the basements of any Wonderlic test you could find. I am in serious doubt these nimwits sign their checks with aything other than "X".

Roy Williams is a very aloof person. He very much thinks himself better and above anyone or anything. Arrogance for doing.......what? Thats right, nothing at all.

martz said kitna has what it takes!
at least your offense should improve, martz can probably get those WR's to produce. even if martz is a crappy head coach, he is an incredible offensive coordinator.

You know it is bad when an undrafted wide receiver has a better year than your three top 10 draft pick wide receivers combined.

You know its bad when every coach hired in a 5 (or 6) year span can be coined as "M&M", automatically making everyone in the league think your team is gay.

Mourniwheg (stupid spelling), Mariucci (stupid spelling), Marinelli.

Ridiculous franchise. Sell the fucking team already to a owner that cares whether the team wins or loses.

The NFL is corrupt in the sense that every owner makes money right from the get-go on TV money. There is no incentive to win on an owners part.

You think Ford cares whether he loses when the stupid-fucking-fans keep selling the place out?

STOP GOING TO THE FUCKING GAMES!

Lions will have a winning record. somethin like 8-8, 9-7 they wont make the playoffs, but Martz as offensive coordinator helps. you have to have some optimism about their D, cause they can create turnovers. they wont be makin the playoffs til millen's gone, cause he doesnt know how to manage

Detroit Lions Assistant Coach Arrested Twice for Drunk, Nude Driving

DEARBORN, Mich. — A Detroit Lions (http://javascript<b></b>:siteSearch('Detroit%20Lions');) assistant coach was arrested twice in the past two weeks — once while police say he was driving nude and a week later on suspicion of drunken driving.

Police in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn said Joe Cullen (http://javascript<b></b>:siteSearch('Joe%20Cullen');), who coaches the team's defensive line, was pulled over Aug. 24 and ticketed on suspicion of indecent and obscene conduct.

The ticket does not provide any other information why Cullen allegedly was nude. The Lions said alcohol was involved.

Then, on Sept. 1, police stopped his 2006 Ford Explorer and determined he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.12 percent, court records show. The legal limit for drivers in Michigan in 0.08 percent.

Cullen, who lives in Dearborn, posted bond in both misdemeanor cases and was coaching at Wednesday's practice.

The 38-year-old, who was hired from the University of Illinois (http://javascript<b></b>:siteSearch('University%20of%20Illinois');), issued a statement Wednesday to apologize.

"I would like to apologize to the Detroit Lions organization, our fans, my family and friends for any embarrassment these incidents have caused," he said. "These incidents represent a mistake in judgment on my part. I deeply regret them and have learned a valuable lesson. It won't happen again."

Lions president Matt Millen (http://javascript<b></b>:siteSearch('president%20Matt%20Millen');) said in a statement that Cullen has requested treatment.

"We are obviously very disappointed," the statement said. "These are very serious matters that will be handled sternly and appropriately by our organization."

Cullen was scheduled to appear next week in 19th District Court for both cases.

Cullen was fired from the University of Mississippi (http://javascript<b></b>:siteSearch('University%20of%20Mississippi');) in 2005 after an alcohol-related arrest at a restaurant.

Penalties, TOs, dancing after a 1st down trailing by 24, missed assignments, benching a 1st round pick in favor of a guy you signed two days ago, making a shitty QB look like Montana, etc.

They'll be lucky to win 4 games. Thank God for apathy.

When Albom asked Williams why he celebrated a reception with his team already trailing by two scores, Williams responded, "I celebrate first downs all the time. I'm not gonna stop that. I'm an exciting player. If I do something exciting, I'm gonna show my actions."

Albom responded, "But you were losing, 10-0."

"What does that mean? ... That means nothing to me. The score means nothing," Williams told Albom.

Since all the Lions do is lose, I have officially jumped on the 0-16 bandwagon. They might as well be perfect at something, anything.

Three starting OL are out, RW and KJ might not play, and the D is atrocious.

My girlfriend was offered tickets to the Bills game this past week and I told her to pass them. She was pissed.

Much like my WalMart stance, I will not goto Ford Field, and even if I did because she wants to see it, I will not spend money in the place. Ever.

So I told her, unless you want to pay parking ($30), for beer ($8-9 a piece) and any food, sure I will go. But I will never reach toward my wallet for a sad-sack, piece of shit organization like the Lions ever.

She passed on them. Good girl.

So does Millen re-up before the season ends or after? Another 5 years should do the trick.

Marinelli blows, McCown is playing WR over a top 10 pick, Kitna still starting at QB is laughable, they call timeouts like no other, they have zero depth/minimal starting talent because they have the worst scouting/personnel dept. in the NFL. Sadly, they won't be mediocre for at least another 3 years.

Fuck you Matt Millen.

Fuck you William Clay Ford.

Fuck you Junior.

You made me not care about the Lions and I hope you default on that $18 billion.

Just a few numbers under the Matt Millen regime for those not in the know:

23-69 overall record (only 3 consecutive undefeated seasons away from mediocrity!!!)

5-41 road record (words cannot express the futility of this stat)

23 consecutive road losses (NFL record)

6 consecutive double-digit losing seasons (NFL record for a GM to keep his job)

Okay, now I'll let this thread die much like the spirit of the Detroit Lion fan base.

Stolen from CardSharp on MLive and tweaked a bit:

The problem is we, the wretched, the heartbroken, the disappointed, the victory-deprived and disenfranchised, are the NFL's scorned and ridiculed. We are all scarred, damaged, flawed individuals.

Yes, my friends. We are Lions fans, and nothing more.

We expect catastrophe, and are suspect of success, while fearing the worst as we hope for the best.

We march bravely into Ford field eight times per year, with the grimness of resigned men marching into Hell.

We wear our Lions jerseys and caps proudly, if only to show the rest of the world that we have BALLS!

We scorn the ridicule from our fathers, and even our sons and daughters, as we tune our miserable televisions to FOX on Sunday afternoons. And then we watch stoically, as if witnessing a multiple-vehicle-fatality accident.

We read the Monday morning game summaries, much like a senior citizen in his twilight scans the obituaries through bifocal lenses.

We are Lions fans, and we carry our shame on our sleeves.

Our enemy is not the vaunted Packers, with their swashbuckling quarterback, who has stabbed our hearts repeatedly, only to see us rise again from the dead.

Our enemy is not the hated Vikings, with their gay purple jerseys and party boat bye weeks.

And our enemy is not the Bears, with their new stadium, dominating defense and swirling winds.

We have met the enemy, and the enemy is us.

My name is DLF, and I am a Lions fan. May God have mercy on my soul.

Ideally, I'd want them to trade out of the #1 or #2 slot. Quinn has bust written all over him and you can't pick Thomas after franchising Backus last year. That's just way too much money to be tied up between both T's. Plus, with Jones going out with a severe foot injury, Peterson must be part of the equation(they'll probably pick him since he is the antithesis of a Mike Martz back).

Seriously, I hope they do what the Vikings did and just let the clock run out so the team behind them can pick before they do. Actually, does it really matter who they pick? None of them will work out here. See Harrington, Charles Rogers, Mike Williams, etc.

There is no hope left. None.

This guy walks into a bar wearing a Lions jersey and carrying a little dog that also has a Lions jersey on with a little Lions helmet, too.

The guy says to the bartender, 'Can my dog and I watch the Lions game here? My TV at home broke and my dog and I want to see the game'

The bartender replies, 'Normally, dogs in the bar would not be allowed, but it is not terribly busy in here, so you and the dog can have a seat at the end of the bar. But, if there is any trouble with you or the dog, I'll have to ask you to leave.' The guy agrees and he and his dog start watching the game.

Pretty soon the Lions kick a field goal and the dog jumps up on the bar and walks down the bar and gives everyone a high five.

That's the problem with Kitna. His yards are always great, but he is horrible in the RZ. I don't understand it. Not that that would have mattered today. Turn his turnovers into TD's and we still lose.

Eagles O-line looked real good today. Not sure if it was rush or they just decided to play. I went to high school with Jon Runyan, he's a good lineman, but really thought we would be able to get pressure on McNabb.

Kitna and the offense are not the problem. At all, not even slightly.

When your defense gives up 54 points, you cant expect your offense to make up for that.

Ya I know. Our Defense is really really bad. I just was trying to say that if Kitna could tighten up in the Rz and cut down on his mistakes, I think we'd still have a chance at a decent season. But you're right, if the defense does the same and cuts down their mistakes, we'd actually be a good football team.

Oh well. Been a lions fan for 25 years, got to see our only playoff victory, guess that'll have to do for a while. :ihit

Still not happy with this team.

It's nice that they're closing out and pulling away in close games, but they shouldn't even be in that position. The Lions could have put the Bears away early but continued to kill drives with blown assignments, penalties, TOs, etc. Plus, if they don't start getting better pass protection, Kitna won't make it past Week 8.

They're making progress and that's a good thing, but they still have a lot of work to do.

They are making progress - finally.

The return of KJ has helped immensely. Defense is getting better each week and we are seeing glimpses of how much of a stud CJ can be.

The road only gets tougher for them with seven of their last nine against teams .500 or better.

Pleasantly surprised, but still not sold.

I don't know. I really think they can finish 10-6. After seeing KJ today, I know it was against a depleted and worn down bears D, but they looked pretty good. I still wish we could do better in RZ attempts though. Seems we're always going for FG's.

And yes, CJ is going to be a stud. Kitna needs to stop holding onto the ball so dang long also.

There are two ways to take that, one is negative, the other one is that Fox didn't want to lose the best game it had on its lineup. I'm going with the latter, as Joe Buck and Troy Aikman can just stay in Detroit that week for the Turkey Day game as well. I'm hoping the Cowboys/Lions game is on Sunday night in December. JamStone

The Vikings didn't beat the Bears. Adrian Peterson beat the Bears. And, judging how the rest of his season has gone, he's capable of doing that. The Bears also had gotten a lot of their players back from injury and had acclimated to Griese at QB with a couple wins over Philadelphia on the road (not impressive but still a road win) and a win over Divisional leader Green Bay at Green Bay. Say what you want to say, but that Chicago road win was a quality win for the Lions.

Two road wins in the NFL is no joke. I don't care if both wins are against Miami and St. Louis. Winning on the road in the NFL is no joke.

Extremely long letter to Millen, from DisgruntledLionFan#3,027, which was sent to local and national writers/pubs, the entire Lions organization, etc.:

Matt Millen,

Once again we're coming into the Christmas season and in most people's mind it's the giving season. You've been with the Detroit Lions organization for nearly seven years and to the best of my knowledge have done nothing but take from the lions to the tune of about $30,000,000. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but what have you ever given back to the Detroit community? Isn't it true that since you've been here all you have done is take? While I may be speaking for myself in this writing, I can assure you the greatest gift you could ever give to the lions organization and their die hard fans is your RESIGNATION.

I truly appreciated your passion and efforts on the field and viewed you as a very knowledgeable TV commentator. I actually had hope for the lions when your hiring was announced. However, I think even you would have to agree you have gotten in way over your head as a NFL Franchise President/CEO/GM and have taken on much more responsibility than you're capable of handling. Everyone has some level of pride and while I'm confident yours is extremely high, your being stubborn and prideful is truly hurting a lot more people than you can ever imagine. That's a high price to pay on your part, agreed? Come on Matt, money should no longer be an object for use as you have taken enough money over the last seven years to set up you, your kids, and even their grand kids for life!

I can't blame you for taking on a this tremendous opportunity and none of us really know what we are capable of until we challenge and stretch ourselves to see what we truly can accomplish. I also can't blame you for taking an offer that no one in their right mind could refuse, but at some point personal gain has to be weighed against the results of your efforts and how they positively or negatively effect others. While I'm confident you've given it your best effort over the last Millen-ium, unfortunately your best is obviously not good enough, even to the most casual of viewers. Thank you for your efforts.

Seven years seem like an eternity for most Lion fans and I find it truly sad to see that at this point so many would be thrilled just to see the team finally get back the level of mediocrity it was stuck at prior to your arrival. How about you? Matt, you've had plenty of time to learn on the job and unfortunately things have only gotten worse from the time you assumed your current position with the Lions in a league ripe with parity. After seven years of opportunity and a true advantage (on better performing teams) to draft the top college players and build a winning organization, it's utterly amazing and hard to believe how low this organization has sank. 30-78, and just when we thought we had already seen rock bottom, well, guess again!

Matt, you have absolutely no idea how frustrating it is to be a long time die hard fan and year after year have to put up with watching the team you've faithfully followed continue to be beyond pathetic. It's even more frustrating to have to sit back and watch Bill Ford continue to accept the bar being so low and not seeing the light that so many others so easily see and yet feel so helpless in not being able to take any action. You've seen the Millen Man Marches of protest, the chants of Fire Millen! have been heard in arenas across the country, and the internet web sites build around you and your unbelievable failures. There truly is nothing to get excited about now or in the foreseeable future with this organization!

In closing, I'm not going to beg you to do what's truly right for the organization and give thousands of people something to be thankful for during the giving season. My only hope is this letter inspires you to think a little harder about the state of the lions and what effect you and only you could have on it's future. At this point, It's all up to you Matt. You need to take the action Bill Ford doesn't appear to have the courage to take. How about you, do you have the courage to admit you not capable of doing the job? I guess we'll find out soon, eh?

Regards,

firemillen

Dude is signed until, I believe, 2011!! How crazy is that?

Despite the team's poor record under Millen, a number of high first-round draft picks who were widely considered colossal failures (Charles Rogers, Joey Harrington, and Mike Williams among them), and widespread disappointment among fans, the media, and even some players, Millen received a five-year contract extension from owner William Clay Ford at the start of the 2005 season. Following the team's 3-13 performance in 2006, Ford announced that Millen would be retained as General Manager for at least another season.

Short of asking God for help, we have no hope left.

None.

Ford Jr.: Millen should resign
Daniel Howes / The Detroit News

Bill Ford Jr. wants Matt Millen out as president of the Detroit Lions.

"It's embarrassing," Ford told The Detroit News Monday on the sidelines of the Detroit Economic Club. "The fans deserve better, and if I had the authority I'd fire the general manager."

Millen has been CEO and president of the Lions since 2001, and the team is headed for an eighth straight losing season with a 0-3 record in the first three games. The Lions are 31-84 under Millen, who Ford Jr. first tried to woo from the broadcast booth to the Lions' front office after the 1998 season.

Ford Jr. is vice chairman of the Lions and son of franchise owner William Clay Ford, who purchased the team in 1964. Ford Sr. has final say on Millen, and his son has not intruded publicly on his father's domain.

The Lions ended the exhibition season 4-0, the only franchise to do so. But since then, the team has imploded with a leaky defense and an ineffective offense.

Millen came to the Lions from the Fox Sports Network after a successful career as a broadcaster and NFL linebacker with the Raiders, 49ers and Redskins. He played on four Super Bowl champion teams.

But his leadership of the Lions has been anything but championship-level. Rod Marinelli, who was hired in 2006, is his fourth head coach, and Millen has a history of failed draft picks.

At least there is some hope for the franchise after that old coot is dead.

Millen reportedly out as Lions president/GM
Detroit News Staff

ALLEN PARK -- The Matt Millen era, one of the darkest periods in Detroit sports, apparently is over.

Whether he was fired, left on his own accord or some exit plan was reached mutually, was not revealed, but FoxSports.com reported Millen was informed Tuesday night that he was being relieved of his duties.

The action came two days after Bill Ford Jr., son of owner William Clay Ford, told reporters he would fire Millen if he had the authority.

Millen, who told reporters as late as Tuesday night that he would not quit, reportedly was at the Lions practice facility Wednesday morning and was seen packing up his office.

There was no immediate word on who will take over in the interim, though Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Tom Lewand would be a possible choice.

Millen was hired by the Lions with no front office experience. In his eight years in the job his teams posted a 31-84 record. The team is 0-3 this season and has lost 10 of 11 games. The Lions never made the playoffs during Millen's tenure.

He has been roundly criticized for poor draft picks and failed free agent signings. In 2006, radio station WDFN organized a protest march, called the Millen Man March, which called for the team to fire Millen immediately. Fire Millen signs were seen at stadiums -- and not just football stadiums, throughout the country.

The Lions befuddled fans by giving Millen a five-year extension in 2004. There is some $10 million remaining on that contract.

Millen was an all-pro linebacker and won Super Bowls with the Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins. He was working as a television analyst when the Lions hired him.

Wait, doesn't that article say that Junior is the one who brought Millen to the Lions in the first place?

Yes it does. But looking back to 2001, I cannot fault a moribund franchise like the Lions for thinking outside the box and picking Millen, a proven championship player with no front office experience whatsoever.

At least they were trying something.

But it was obvious from about year 2 that the guy was in way over his head and was too stubborn to admit it. And Ford Sr. is complicit in all this by being his typical loyal-to-a-fault self (Ford Sr. invented, patented and continues to redefine that phrase).

Ford Jr wanted Millen, but after 2 years he knew the guy was overmatched and wanted him gone 3 years ago (right after the draft...Mike Williams anyone? Another receiver...again).

But Bill Sr. is an old stubborn curmudgeon, and stuck with him.

Junior is just waiting for the old motherfucker to die. And so is every Lions fan around the globe. The Lions are the laughing stock of the league for a better part of 10 years (if not more in the past pre-Barry), have yet to even make it to the Superbowl in franchise history, have exactly TWO wins in the playoffs in my lifetime (wait, or was that just 2 games and they went 1-1....fuck, its been so long).

He is the reason, a HUGE part of the reason. Everyone knows it, the radio talks about it, the blogs rap about it, the forums are all over it. Everyone knows it but good-ol-insulated, "I dont do interviews or answer any criticism from simple fans" Bill Ford Sr, who because he was fortunate enough to be born to a Ford, had the luxury of never having to give a fuck what anyone thought about his systematic dismantling of the Lions from perennial loser when he bought them, to perennial laughing stock, doormat of the league.

2 days ago Ford Jr spoke up....today maybe the old bastard finally listened. Its about fucking time. I might start watching more football again.

Former AFL commish, godfather of the modern NFL, broke racial barriers by hiring the first hispanic and african-american coaches in the modern NFL, hired the highest ranking female executive in the NFL also managed to win 3 Superbowls, his team has appeared in 5. Well, seeing as the Lions are no longer selling out home games, we in the Metro cannot watch the slow systematic euthanizing of our beloved felines.

Sports Report: Lions up 17-0!

Update: Lions give up 34 unanswered points before exchanging meaningless field goals (Jason "Highest Scoring Lion in History" Hanson would like to thank the academy...)

Dante Culpepper looks every bit of horrible, they have no running back, their defense is abominable (especially the secondary) and their coaching staff is the single most pathetic conglomerate of clichés you could put together on a video for a sports broadcast.

"We have to compete better." "Tackling is all about pad-level." "Good morning men (only in reference to players, as if the crowd is full of people less-than men)". bla bla bla

0-16 is a very, very real possibility. How much you want to bet they draft a receiver with the 1st overall pick? I mean, why the hell not, right? The glaring weakness is obviously their receiver corp, who can question that?

This fucking franchise sucks. I have kept a sense of humor about it for 7 fucking years, but this is getting ridiculous....even for a Lie-downs fan.

Worst part...there is no "fix" per say. The franchise is so depleted of talent in every area of operation, from ownership/management to towel boys/gatorade guy, that there is no forseeable recovery.

We could draft Joe-fucking-Montana and still only win 4 games a year. Shit, give us Tom Brady, we'll ruin that sonofabitch in record time. LaDanian Tomlinson, welcome to 600 yds a year. Fuckety fuck fuck.

Schwartz said there is a good chance Sims will miss some time, but the Lions don't know yet how long Sims could be out.

Sims suffered the injury Sunday when he landed awkwardly during the Lions' 27-13 loss to Minnesota.

Jordon Dizon and rookie DeAndre Levy are candidates to replace Sims. http://www.freep.com/article/20090921/SPORTS01/90921044/1319/Lions-LB-Ernie-Sims-has-significant-shoulder-injury
