I do.

Yes I do too at this point in time.

With the way this team is playing defensively, I believe Erick Dampier would likely dominate the boards and rule the paint.

What do you mean likely? Dumpier has been doing that to us for a while now..

Soft = Spurs

No. They're too laid back. All the success early in the season has caused them to be lackadasical. Averaging 100 points a game and blowing opponents out over and over and winning games while playing bad defense has gotten into their heads, making them think they don't need to play as hard.

They'll get out of it.

The Spurs have been more or less a soft team for decades and that hasn't stopped you from winning.

Robert Horry's the only player on your team who isn't a pushover.

VaSpursFan
12-27-2006, 12:12 PM
soft...maybe. they really don't have that fire in them to kill every opponent once they get them down. that to me is the real problem...they think they can turn "it" off and on at will.

If the Spurs were a "soft team for decades" they wouldn't have any titles.

Damn you're a fucking sorry retarded piece of shit dude.

Back in 2005, people were saying the same shit, after we lost the first game to Denver, after the Sonics won 2 games, after Amare scored 40 a game and Tim missed a ton of free throws, and when Detroit came back 3-3. Well get it through your heads people, the Spurs know when they need to play and they know they fucked up. Come playoff time, they will show the killer instinct again.

If you need anything to make you feel better, go to YouTube, search "San Antonio Spurs - Road to the Championship" and watch the damn video and quit bitching.

I don't know if it is so much "soft" as it is lacking a killer instinct.

I've seen the team play some killer defense at times, but the part I don't get is how the Spurs get way ahead, and then lack the killer mentality to put a team away for good.

That is what I would like to see them get.

As for the question, no. I think they're lazy and underestimate the "weaker" teams of the league. And they do lack the personal to play spurs defense. As apposed to back in the day when we did have the people for the job, yet we played to soft.

Softness is not a fucking stat retard so it can't be proven.

tim_duncan_fan
12-27-2006, 12:53 PM
Yes we are soft and its not going to change until Duncan decides that HE is going to quit being soft bcause everyone else will follow his lead. However, at this time duncan is playing like a little softy and so the rest of the team is playing that way too. At the end of every game you here Duncan and Pop say something about the defense but it doesn't appear that Duncan is really trying with h is paint defense and so no one else is playing defense. In short Im saying that the team is soft right now because there supposed leader is being soft.

So you can't prove they are not soft also.

All what we've experienced recently is the spurs losing attencion, losing games, losing big leads.

And the base is in mentality. This killer instict everybody is talking about which spurs are lacking.

Not that long ago they were happy to go back and have full practice, they were saying it will help them. And why not belive them? But instead coming back stronger they are weaker. (btw. I'm not looking at the record right now - it have nothing to do with the attidude and mentality).

Pop called this team the worst in 7 years or so. Well were they worse then they are today in TD era? IMO nope.
And I was saying that in another topic (17 - 8 from timmay).
Pop also said that this team need to make a resume what they want to do.

Toughess is in defense. When defense is collapsing so does whole game. Letting bad teams get back into the game is not what we do espect from the tough teams. Have a rest and time to fix some details and after that being worse is not what we espect from the tough teams.
Lose to a .500 team from the East @ home without any excuse is not what we espect from the tough teams.

Yes I do think the spurs are soft right now, and I do believe in that.
And I do not care about the stats as they let Buck score 70 in the paint with a almost 60% Field goals.

Yes they are. After Rasho went away and they relied on offence from then on. Beno on the other hand was in trouble, since he didn't make a pressure D to prevent the obvious lack of that interior presence Two Towers were known to have.

I don't understand what is wrong with the Spurs right now. I mean I see how they are playing badly/ losing, I just don't understand why.

Our team is talented and I know every guy on the squad wants to win... that is why I don't get the apathetic performances lately.

It is like the team has been afflicted by some sort of mass mental block.

I am sure the team will snap out of it; I'm just concerned aboutthe bad habits and weakened skills that result from lazy play.

I'm not sure if they're "soft" so much as inconsistent. They play great for stretches or for quarters or for two or three games, and then lay an egg after they get a wake up call.

It doesn't help that the other great teams in the West Dallas, Suns, Jazz are all on winning streaks right now. Makes the Spurs sloppiness and inconsistency even more obvious.

You can easily tell when the demeanor of a team has changed, good or bad. If Spur fans only think their team is soft then it's probably not the case. I wouldn't take the loss too hard. If it becomes a habit for the Spurs then I'd start to believe the Spurs were soft.

Yeah but the difference now is we have these leads against 500 or less teams and still cant finish them off. Maybe Pop puts the bench in too early and the other teams get fired up because of it. Maybe we just cant close out fourth quarters anymore but Pop better jump on their asses. :pctoss

if i'm not mistaken, i think the spurs are #2 in points allowed which doesn't mean shit. true defense is proven by your opponents field goal % and i think the spurs are ranked 13th.

Yes they are. After Rasho went away and they relied on offence from then on.

I have thought, the last few games especially, that I bet Pop misses having Rasho and his defense to send into the game.

Sho was great because he knew how to really help Timmy- playing solid defense, setting screens, being in the right spot on the floor, tipping out rebounds etc. He did all of that on a nightly basis, something the other guys are still learning to do.

Elson is talented- I am confident he will do good for the team once he masters the system. He seems a bit green to me.

Fabri is fiesty but he isn't as tall as some line ups require.

As for Rob- it's been warm out lately. Maybe if we tell him it is June, he'll believe us. :)

I never got the whole "soft" tag. The amount of physical and mental toughness it takes to even make the NBA would, IMO, negate that.

The meaning of adjectives is sometimes relative to the situation. While a person who makes it to the NBA may not be soft relative to the average person, he could be considered soft when compared to some of his peers.

I agree -- but I'd rather us struggle early than coast and peak mid-season like the Pistons did last year before their playoff meltdown. That's when our aggregate skill level and desire need to be strongest to win it all, right? :king

Yes and no.

I understand slumps. And if we have to have one, better now than May- June.

However I am not convinced that the Spurs have a legitimate excuse to be losing the games they have been.

Also- too much saving yourself for the play offs is fool hardy. It is like a kid slacking in junior high in anticipation of high school- a ridiculous waste of critical prep time.

Half the team has been taken out by microscopic globules. Of course they're soft.

peskypesky
12-28-2006, 01:15 AM
The only thing soft about the Spurs is Poopavitch's brain. His moronic coaching decisions cost us the game against the Bucks. Not only did he go "small ball", but he decides to put Beno in for the fourth quarter and take Eric Williams out.

Williams was dropping in threes, and also driving to the hoop and drawing fouls. Guess Poop didn't like that. So he pulled Williams and put Beno in, who did just about nothing with his minutes.

And what about the brilliant decision to play without a center in the fourth? Leaves just one guy to guard the paint. So the Bucks took advantage of that and just kept driving to the hoop for easy layups. And when they missed a shot? Offensive rebounds.

And then Poop has the gall to pin this loss on the players?

F--- Poopavitch. F--- small-ball. :fro

The Spurs aren't soft they're lazy. Big difference. They've showed flashes of their defense but only against weaker teams in the league. That tells me they still know it mentally.

The Spurs defense has declined steadily the past few seasons even with Rasho in the lineup. His "defensive presence" isn't anything that Elson can't pick up.
