Now that is out of the way, and that it could be a while before the Spurs talk about championships, let's talk about their 3 from years' past. Which is your favorite and why? I've got to go with 2003: We ended the Lakers dynasty, and just how close it was (Game 5 deciding game), and it was awesome blowing them out in Game 6 on their floor, sending them home. Everyone remember that Horry shot in Game 5 vs the Spurs? If it goes in, it's a disaster, but that would happen the next year with Fisher's 0.4 shot.

After years of frustration, we finally beat them and end the Lakers dynasty. A true dethroning of the champs is when you beat them, then go on to win it yourself. Only the Spurs have done that in recent years (with the true dethroning of the Lakers and Pistons in '03 and '05). No one has truly dethroned us with any of our 3 championships.

I'd say '03, because we beat the Lakers on the way and it was the Admiral's last season with us.

I'm a "newbie" to the board, so I'll answer this question.

Geez, it's tough. 99 was the first and great, but it seemed so easy. We dominated buzzer to buzzer that season. 03 was beating the Lakers, which might have been the most satisfying thing ever, but the finals were a comparable let down afterwards.

05 was probably the pinnacle for me. It cemented us as a dynasty, and we beat a very very tough Detroit team after they mauled us in the Palace. It was by far the most satisfying finals, and the Horry 3 was an even bigger shot than the Memorial Day Miracle. That entire play felt like destiny, watching Sheed run to the corner and then Horry standing there all alone... you could just feel it happening. That was the only Finals that we played an opponent truly capable of beating us, so when it went to 7 and we won, it felt like confirmation that we had a great team.

2003.

I didn't live here in 1999, so it was different for me.

I loved the 2003 team and really enjoyed that playoff run a little more than the others.

In '99 it took a Mario Elie calling out the team as soft before they started playing lights out in a shortened season. That season was the start of the mid-season "this team is soft" speeches that get thrown out every year as a motivating tool.

They're all specal, '99 being the first one, '03 sent DRob out with a bang, but my favorite is '05. That one seemed like the hardest one to get, making it the most satisfying and worthwhile.

2003 for me. Seeing Robinson go out a champion on his home court and killing the Lakers 4-peat along the way was the best. I was so drunk and stoned by the end of Game 6 that I was just jumping up and down, racing around the room and hugging everyone. Good times...

I go with the 05 Spurs they were crushed after the Lakers series with Fisher hitting that damn shot the year before. Timmy had all sorts of ankle injuries people were doubting him in the finals saying he had no heart and we are chokers. Game 7 Timmy and everyone stepped up and won it all that was my favorite one.

2005. The 2 best defensive teams of all time in a slugfest. It was bizzare how we blew them out twice at home, and then couldn't even bring the ball up the court in Detroit for games 3,4. Each basket in the last 3 games was an intense struggle.

Definately 05. Seeing Manu take over games was an amazing experience for a Spurs fan. Every series was very hard fought. The Seattle crowd booing Duncan when he almost got injured but got up; Horry's heroic shot; silencing the Suns with their MVP and COTY; taking the defending champs to 7 games; etc... It was brutal but we prevailed

YES YES Timmy tweaking that ankle again and those classless assholes booing him only for Timmy to hit the game winner and send them home for the summer was fucking sweet. That is my fav moment to watch on the 2005 Spurs title DVD.

Yeah, Fortson and Potapenko weren't even trying to play D. Just clobber TD.

I remember the Nuggets trying to injure Manu out of pure frustration and George Karl bitching about his playing style after admitting to be an admirer a few months earlier.

I have 2 favs... '03 b/c we beat LA, Came back after being down to DAL w/ SJax and Kerr's 3's, and 19-0 run on the Nets and SJax reigning tre's again. Other favorite '07 coming soon?

I was in Detroit on business for Game 6, watching it at a casino in downtown. I wisely did not tell anyone I was a Spurs fan. I flew back the evening of Game 7, catching a few minutes before halftime at a layover in DFW, then sprinting off the plane at Bush to run down to the bar in the concourse to see the last three minutes of the game.

Wouldn't you know it though, as I was celebrating the win, the bartender says, "Yeh, but the Rockets in '95 would have swept both of these teams". :rolleyes

I wish the 05 DVD was like the 03 one in that 03 showed the "clinching quarters" of every elimination game. I was very disappointed not to see that included in this DVD.

Favorite moment of 03 champ DVD: when Kerr put the daggers in Dallas' heart, and you can hear a whiny Dallas bitch yelling "You're a punk Malik! You're a punk!" His voice is all high-pitch it's hilarious :lmao :rollin

As most have said, all of them are special and truly unique in its own way.

But the first one will be the sweetest to me because Avery Johnson, Sean Elliott, D. Robinson and Jerome Kersey toiled in this league for so long w/o winning it and to see their faces and how they reacted was something AMAZING.

And to do it on the floor like Madison Square Garden makes it that much better.

And they started that season, the "Race for the Rings", 6-8 and looked really bad until they turned it around and played some damn good basketball.

'03 for me. The entire season was like a movie script from the opening game. On opening night, the Lakers get their rings but we spoil the party with our new backcourt players, Manu and Speedy. In the next game against the Lakers, Stephen Jackson drains eight three pointers.

The rest of the season played out with a Hollywood ending.

We beat our nemesis, the Lakers. Tim Duncan gets regular season and Finals MVP. Admiral goes out a champion.

all were great
1999-i think was the best team..we slept the lakers/blazers and won in 5 against the knicks and wolves...plus duncan in drob were playing great.

2003-my favorite yr. we beat the lakers in that great game 5 then we blew them out in game 6. we also beat the mavs which is always a great feeling in 6 games. and then of course that yr DRob got one more ring and duncan extended his legacy. manu and parker were all so big contributers. theres only one championship team to have drob duncan manu and parker...thats the 03

2005-beat the thuggish nuggets as well as beat the very over rated suns plus a great game 7 win at home.

Man, after reading all of these posts, I realized how great '05 was. We overcame a lot of shit that year, the playoffs were crazy as hell. The Nuggets and Sonics flagrant fouled Parker and Gino and Duncan everytime they went in the lane and they just got right back up and sent them home. Horry hit so many big shots. Maybe it's a tie between '03 and '05.

That is a good question.

In 1999--the first championship always has a great spot in my heart. In fact, from the 1999 run, I have the following:

1. All the NBA Finals on tape

2. After we won the championship, I put in 8 year video tapes and let the tape record all the stuff going on throughout the city--I let that tape run all the way to the end;

3. I have the complete WOAI tape of the last game--with the fantastic Jay Howard booimg something about the Spurs winning the NBA Championship from the Lone Star State.

Second best NBA Finals--2003 with the storybook ending for David Robinson. That is something that they could make a movie about--how the Admiral saved our franchise--endured years of being called "soft" and "Mermaid" by the fucking no good prick Jim Rome (hate that son of a bitch to this day for calling David that).
