Is this guy on crack? Dallas has won 90% of their games since starting 0-4. 90% is a 73-win pace. How any metric can put any team over one winning 9 out of 10 is pretty mind-boggling.

Luckily, you are not a Spurs fan, the last thing we need are sissy fans who piss off over some guys opinion about the team. Fortunately for you, you are a true Mavs fan, who can pride himself with a #1 position in some pppppower rankings, which truly deserves to be shown in the same showcase where all the championship rings are displayed

What is it with Mavs fans and Power Rankings??
I swear it seems like every other week my friend who's a Mavs fan sends out an email or an IM ranting on where the Mavs are ranked.... Is there some kind of rare pleasure elicited from the Power Rankings that can only be experienced by those who have not tasted the thrill of their team winning an actual NBA Title? I don't understand. Are Hornets fans this obsessed with Power Rankings? Bobcats fans? Clippers fans? What is it?

Not really, we don't even give a shit. We were at the top for like the first two weeks and no one really said much. We know where this team is without being ranked and we don't need ranking as a confirmation either.

SINCE starting 0-4, but that does not mean that the 0-4 to open the season never happened. If we can throw out losing streaks, then let's throw out the Spurs' 3-game losing streak from January and say that they are 37-15.
Also, Dallas will not, I repeat WILL not beat Miami tonight. Shaq and Zo will own all the cheap jump shots the Mavs take all the time.
Also, it's not 90%, it's 83% on the season. No throwing out losing streaks.

Houston = Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady who have never won a playoff series in their lives. Houston over SA is sounding dumber and dumber as the season goes on.

Houston also equals one of the best defensive teams out there. They are a threat to any team. And don't sleep on Battier or Bonzi either. Bonzi has already shown the Spurs that he can step up in the post season.

Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming have never won a first round playoff series, and you want to tell me that an NBA Finals veteran team like SA whose core players (Duncan, Ginobili, Parker) are still young enough to contend this year, are going to fall to McGrady and Yao who never have made it past the first round? My dog is even smarter than that.

We are ranked higher because we have had harder opponents (opponents have won .505) than Dallas (their opponents are .464). Spurs also have a higher scoring margin than the mavs. His stats don't look at winning record because according to him it doesn't show how good a team is. The big starts are how many you score over your opponents (offense) and how low you hold a team (defense).
But it's daily. If dallas has a blowout game vs miami and we have a tight game, they're back on top.

I find it incredibly tough to deny Dallas' greatness this season. Yes, its just the regular season, but this is a team that was in last year's Finals and is hungry and taking care of business. Up to this point, they are undoubtedly, to me, the class of the league. Does that guarantee a championship? Of course not, but it also does not make them worthy of disrespect. I'm a Spurs fan, but I gotta give it up to Dallas.

Well, as far as being classy players, they are not. Jason Terry punched a player (we know who) and got suspended, Jerry Stackhouse flagrant foul on Shaq for no reason, Mark Cuban enough said, Avery Johnson snaps at an innocent postgame conference reporter because his team lost, and Dirk kicked the ball into the stands and says they "gave" the championship to Miami.
Add that to the fact that they lost the NBA Finals (which 99% of people act like it never happened), and want to act like they are the best all-around team, this isn't a likeable group of players by any means.
It will be so fun to come back on here in June and laugh at all the doubters of the Spurs. 4th championship parade coming up.

The only thing we need to do this year to improve: Make sure a player doesn't foul in a Game 7 with 30 seconds left and a 3 point lead.
What else went wrong in that series for us? Nothing. Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili are not old. You can call the bench old all you want but as long as our main core is young, we're fine.
You got over the hump, but at the end it all meant nothing. You lost to another old and aging un-athletic team, proving the win over the Spurs in round 2 a fluke.

You were down 20 points in game 7. We lead and controlled the tempo of every game that series (except game 5). The game shouldnt of even went to a 7th game but our inexperience was a huge reason why. An experience Mavs team will end your season in no more then 5 games.

I am concerned about wear and tear on Bowen, and I don't think the Spurs have improved since last season, although I'm keen on following Elson and Bonner, to a lesser extent. Finley seems to have aged 5 years since last season as well. So I think that the Spurs are clearly flying under the radar...and very well may stay under radar.
Having said that, I do know that in the playoffs, its a shortened, PRESSURE PACKED season, both of which benefit a team like San Antonio based on championship experience. I think that Pop has by no means overplayed anyone, so I expect the Spurs to be as fresh as anyone once the real season starts. Plus, as well all know, luck plays a role in championship runs, however significant.
Also, as long as the Spurs can keep Parker, Ginobili and Duncan healthy throughout the playoffs, the Spurs will have a shot. Honestly, I kind of like the fact that the spotlight is way off the Spurs. I think they tend to perform better when they are not everyone's favorite to take the cake. We'll find out who's smack holds ground in a few months from now!

It's reasonable to think Dallas could beat SA this year (altho its unlikely, SA in 6 this year), but not Houston (McGrady and Yao Ming have never won a playoff series! Spurs beat Bonzi last year) and LA (First 6-game losing streak in Phil Jackson's coaching career).

I think Dallas would be VERY tough for the Spurs, but I think the Spurs can beat Phoenix in the playoffs. The Spurs sort of remind me of the 2001 Lakers. I was SOOOOO sure, as were many national beat writers, that the Spurs would beat the Lakers in the 2001 WCF. I vividly recall Mark Stein or whatever his name is from ESPN.com saying AFTER the Spurs got whipped in Game 1, that the Spurs would STILL win in 6.
No, this Spurs team does not mirror that Lakers team, but they do have a striking similarity in that they had rich playoff and championship experience. They slumbered through the regular season and when the playoffs came around and the pace of the games slowed down, championship instincts took over.
The thing Dallas has going for them is that they have actually eliminated the Spurs in the playoffs...but Phoenix has yet to do so. I'm resonding primarily to the take that Phoenix will beat the Spurs. They won't. Dallas is another story.

Dirk, I wouldn't go THAT far. Let's wait and see if Dallas actually eliminates the Spurs again in the playoffs. The Spurs may have another run or two in the tank. The players will actually determine the outcome, not the salivating, beer toting fans.
Don't give him that much credit, Dirk isn't old enough to drink.
The mavs won't have to beat the spurs this year because the suns will.
The Spurs dominate the Suns like fat kids all over America dominate Krispy Kreme. You a fool if you think the Suns have a chance of standing in our way. The West will once again come down to San Antonio and Dallas.

What do you mean "points in the paint". You know all those lay-ups, those are points in the paint. Those jump-shots for the FT line that Dirk is almost automatic from ... Points in the paint.
Now if your saying that we don't dunk very much ... Thats true, but then the Mavs have almost never been a "Dunking" team.
You must think it unwise to take an open 10' jumper and instead to drive it to the basket so that the opposing center and PF can try to block it. This is one of the reasons that we dumped Finley, he would have the open shot and instead drive the ball into three defenders and miss a tough shot.
To each his own. I'll take Dirk taking his 10' jumper over just about any other play in the play book.

I'm still glad that the Mavs were WC champs and not 2nd round losers last season...seriously. Bagging on the Mavs for being the WC champs after they beat your team in game 7 on the road? Weak...
100% of Spurs fans would change history if they could and lose in the finals last year instead of to the Mavs...right?? :spin

Since you are aiming your comment at me, my response is...where the hell did I bag on the Mavs? I was simply getting a kick out of a funny image, however accurate or relevant may be. If you have any doubts, please take the time to actually scroll back through this thread and you'll read ONLY takes of mine which praise the Mavs.

That is exactly why Dallas lost the NBA Finals. Zo and Shaq were too much inside, so Dallas had to go back to jump shooting. Jump shooting may work well in the regular season and early in the playoffs, but by the Finals, when everything tightens up, those shots don't always fall = Dallas a jump shooting team eliminated in the playoffs like the past 6 seasons.

Nope, if we don't win the Finals, we might as well not even make the playoffs. I'd rather lose in the 2nd round vs the Mavs than to go on to the Finals and lose to the Heat. Nothing would hurt more for a team to lose an NBA Finals, especially after being up 2-0, and almost up 3-0. Sucks for Dallas.

YEah, what's weak is getting defensive about the consolation prize, when the dude forgets he's talking to fans of a team who's already DELIVERED THE WHOLE THING THREE TIMES.
It would have been a stronger argument for him to keep his mouth shut. Know your place.
Yeah, your team did a good job getting that far. In small doses it's a nice notion. I wouldn't want to wear any shirt like that if it's anything less the Finals! It's not something to be proud of, until they deliver the whole thing.
You might as well start churning out shirts for the division titles, or better yet, for each round.
Horry was right!

Dude your fucking delusional if you think any spurs fan would trade places with your team last year. Losing in a hard played 7 game second round series(even though every one knows that it should have been a conference finals game) is way more easier to swallow than losing four straight to a very old Heat team.
Besides what are you getting all defensive for? GrandeDavid was giving the mavs props, and then just started bagging on that fucking loser kid in that pic. Now, getting your panties in a bunch over that is pretty fucking weak....

lol, like we haven't seen pics of some spurs fans posted here that don't put them in the best light...anyway, that is a funny pic of the mavs fan but so is the pic of...well, i don't wanna hurt his feelings
anyway, who cares about rankings? let the spurs and their fans celebrate the one ranking that puts them up there, it doesn't mean anything to the mavs or anyone else so what's the harm?

Actually, it's funny to laugh at the kid's pic. Just because of his whole get up. Other than that, no biggie. Hope he can take a good ribbing.

No one's really celebrating .We're just happy we're finally getting some wins for the week. And some recognition. I think we were ranked number 1 because we're starting to get the pity vote by these ESPN guys.
:lol
We envy your team. They're really legitimately the best the team in the league.
But thanks, I hope your team keeps their win percentage pace, it's to the Spurs advantage to fly under the radar as the old farts they are.
I'm calling it, we're all gonna turn into Playoff Horries to win our fourth championship. Except, instead of just one Horry. It'll be the whole bench. Except Horry of course. He's too old.

yeah, the pic IS funny and with the rankings, i was mostly talking about the mavs fans getting pissed...not worth it IMO, i actually laughed when i saw them but i'm too concerned with JHO and George's injuries and how the mavs will play the next month than to care much about rankings, that includes mavs rankings on stein/nba.com.

While I'll never be embarassed to be a Mavs fan (I fucking love that team), it's quite hard to defend Mavs fans to people on this board when 95% of the Mavs fans that post here are FUCKING IDIOTS. That's embarassing.
Spurs aren't a legit threat to us anymore? Are you on crack?
[QUOTE=sabar]We are ranked higher because we have had harder opponents (opponents have won .505) than Dallas (their opponents are .464).[QUOTE]
Over the last 25% of your games. Not overall.
I don't think Hollingers rankings really make all that much sense and they definitely don't mean much.
