Dirk's tech was a true indicator of his inability to lead his team.

BS. Dude had a terrible game but that's bullshit. Before tonight, the majority of smart NBA fans were picking him as MVP...He's lead is team to a 52-11 record which while it isn't a pretty as 53-10 would've been, it's still pretty fucking nice. If this were the playoffs, I might agree with that...but one fucking technical foul because he felt he was fouled does not show that Dirk can't lead a team.

amare does need to chill out cuz he's gonna tech his suns out of games.

while the spurs dont draw techs they still bitch way way too much

if anything i'd probably be more inclined to call fouls on the spurs because they don't stop crying. I love the team to death and while it does feel like we've calmed down with the bitching this year to a degree, I just hope we can nut up and play ball and not worry about the officiating.

Also, to be honest, I wouldn't mind one of our players getting a tech here or there to fire up the team. The only person who gets techs for us to motivate us is pop and sometimes I'd like to see one of our players take charge.

Not to say I want us to get thrown out of games, but just a little bit of fiery emotion would be nice to get everyone pumped.

i don't think the mavs have a true leader, they never have. they've got guys like stack and jet to pump them up but even dirk will shy away from questions about being the leader of the team.

But they don't get Technicals. You know why? Because they can get their point across but still be professionals by not swearing at the refs. Something the Mavs, Suns and especially certain Pistons would be wise to learn. You're allowed to argue with a ref, but you have to treat him with respect.

Amare's a hell of player, but a complete dope. He came off REALLY poorly in that McCallum book. Dude is dumber than a brick. And throwing the ball at Carroll that other game was weak.
Aside from Amare being stupid. I don't think the Spurs are the only classy team. I think a lot of the players on the Suns, and a few on the Mavs are pretty respectful.

I think Dirk has anger management problems, but for the most part the Mavs aren't "not" classy. They have a few questionable players like Terry the ballbuster, and Dirk's temper tantrums, but eh. I don't think Spurs fans should take exception to the class of their players. Duncan is prone to being a big fat whiner. Pop had to tell him to cut it out a couple months ago.

I'll say it again - the indicator was when he wouldn't let up and almost got a 2nd tech after Amare knocked the ball out bounds and Dirk thought it should have been a foul... Buckner saved him from that shit

If Dirk had the fire, and that leader's edge, MVP edge He would have had the Larry Bird Balls to just go for the win.

I wanted the Suns to lose to help the Spurs in the standings,
but it was great how the Mavs lost so painfully. Their fans and Cuban deserve it. :lol

The dilemma is that had the Suns lost, the Mavs would have been insufferably swaggering and confident.

So I guess it's better this way. The Spurs are fine in 3rd seed, with whatever 1st round opponent washes up from the depths of the WC.

he's one of my favorite players but if it comes to shots at the buzzer at the end of games it's gotta be dirk or kobe

but ginobili is in the top 5 :)

also, when it comes to sports, all we can say is

How you played three months ago doesn't matter. It's all about how you're playing NOW. And the score was a lot closer than it appears, if you watched the game. The Suns ended it with like a 10-0 run in the final two minutes.

The game was poorly played by the Weak German, and the MAvs lost it, the suns did not beat them. But I will give the Suns credit for shooting OUTSTANDING tonight vs. the Mavs. Nobody has done that this season aside from the first four games.

i can remember a couple of games where manu didn't get that last shot in...and don't even think about going to duncan as the clutch guy at the end of the game...otherwise, show me the proof and i'll match up with a dirk clutch this season

at least dirk gets the ball and makes them half the time, it's easy to diss him when he doesn't make them...same goes for manu because the guy doesn't always make the shot...when they have the balls to take it, no need to diss, but if it makes you feel better, go right ahead

I wasn't taking a slight, I was just referring to Avery Johnson as their leader they look to.

Please. I wasn't even ragging on the Mavs play. I thought they were in it right there. I just referring to this game right here. And Dirk's behavior today. So all that smack talk about the Spurs, isn't really necessary in reply to my post.

He called out Javie once and said it was "bullshit"

His biggest beef was the play where he gets a pass stolen in the 4th quarter and it's obvious the ball went only 5 feet because Dirk slapped the hell out of his arm... I mean, he is Steve Nash - I'm sure he can make a quality pass back to the top of the key

Yeah, Kobe, Jordan, all of them have to miss every now and then.

Duncan is pretty clutch though. I think he has about 8 or 10 game winners than Manu, but Manu has done some clutch shots for his Argentine team, and is always either responsible for the game winning or tying play, for having the ball in his hands.

What defense?

Mavs played defense in the third quarter, that's about it.

Sucks to lose on your home court when you haven't lost there in what..three months? Sucks to lose to the Suns, sucks to lose the second game in a row...Sucks to lose in general. But this loss wasn't any more upsetting to me than Mondays in Oakland.

Oh he choked.... and shoulda had the balls to just take a pull up 3 running at full speed a la T-Mac, but he didn't. 2 starters were fouled out already, so if he hit the 2, they probably would've lost in the 3rd OT.

I just don't get why everybody is going apeshit over tonight.

probably because these last two games have taken some of the fear away from other teams' fans. mavs have been fairly dominant throughout the season and when teams slip up, like the suns the last month and the spurs up until just after the rodeo road trip, it's a comfort when the other good teams get brought back to earth. i never thought the mavs were going to roll over either of the other two teams so it's no big deal but they probably didn't see it that way. and also, it's probably because everyone was shitting themselves when the mavs came back froma 16 point deficit.

the game was tied with 4 minutes left and the suns went on a tear on their home floor

and as i said before, the spurs were slumping back then anyway

i'd rather be on the recieving end of that loss than this loss which is probably the most painful regular season loss of the year

no it isn't. it could've been painful had the mavs lost by a ridiculous amount of points and not clawed their way back into a real game. it would've been two straight horrific games of no effort. mavs didn't do that. if you look at the suns/mavs matchups, they are usually decided by less than five points, this game is no different. spurs fans like to note that despite our wins in the spurs/mavs matchups, the close nature of the games means that they are basically evenly matched up. no different with the suns/mavs, game could've gone either way and it's been that way for some time now. one mistake by jho in the regular season is a lot better than one mistake by manu in the playoffs

oh well, i have to go now, enjoy the win and once again, congrats suns fans, your team played very well tonight...even you nashfan!

The Mavs burn out too quickly; they peaked at the wrong time, and Avery pushed them at the wrong time. bUt they will bounce back.....they have so far this year....
I also think that the no-calls for stack, Dirk, Nash, and Barbosa were disgusting. Barbosa got FOULED on the last shot of the fourth.

tempe85
03-15-2007, 03:53 AM
Ladies and gentlemen, exhibit #281,382,985,382 why a team coached by Mike D'Antoni will never win a fucking thing.

Iso for Barbosa? I could understand it if Nash had two broken legs.

Bull... it wasn't a bad call at all. Barbosa has averaged 32 points a game over the previous three games... shot over 50% from the field and from 3 and has a history of hitting big shots (Bulls game earlier this year). He's also considered the fastest player in the entire league... to top that off the Mavs thought they'd go to Amare or Nash.... sometimes misdirection works sometimes it doesn't. And for your information D'Antoni has already won a couple championships as a coach in the second hardest league in the world.

Xylus

Remember last year in Game 1 of the playoffs when Diaw hit the game winner?

I don't think it's absolutely fucking nuts to go with Barbosa, one of your best and most clutch scorers, in the waning seconds of the game. Do I think Nash would have had a better chance? Sure, but the Mavs were probably covering Nash like white on rice.

That's what I've been saying for awhile. Mav fans keep saying the suns have no chance because they don't play defense. Well if Amare is that unstoppable they can get away with it partially.

I'm glad they got the win, but believe me, for many, many fans, this game has nearly killed them. Greatest regular season game I've ever seen. If I was to die tomorrow, I'd die happy. Anf with how I feel now, death may not be such a terrible fellow... OMG.

This thread was a great read. I'm sad I thought it was over with a minute left. Very sad. Impossible is nothing. Guess it's true afterall. Each team and its fans deserved the win. Hell of a game. Not that none have any questions with regards to such.

I'm out. Maybe indefinately...

Grew up in Phoenix and had the privelage of attending many, many games. Love the Suns. Some say too much. I've just one thing to experience and that's a Title. Maybe, hopefully, one day.

I have no idea to what fued you're referencing, but I'll be honest, I figure close to half that post on this board probably were under six in 92-93, so therefore many probably don't remember, if know much of anything at all about Barkley's Suns getting trounced by Jordan's Bulls. It's nothing they could help, but I'm quite sure many here are under 20 years of age, including several Suns and Mavs posters.

What this has to do with this topic, or my original post mentioning 92-93? I have no idea. I was letting Clutch know I had experienced the NBA Finals (I was 14 at the time). Hell, I remember when the supremely talented Suns of 1990 finally beat the Lakers, advancing to the Western Conference Finals, only to lose to an injured and undermanned Portland team.

My point was harmless. Completely. Only to mention I do have a "Finals" history with the Suns. I wasn't trying to prove anyone wrong.

Still, I have no doubt that a significant number of posters (namely Suns/Mavs) are probably 20-and-under and therefore have very little memory of anything pre-1996 or so... Several of whom have posted within this thread. They may deny being so young, but I can gather differently from their overall post content and attitude towards basketball. Those who have a sense of history have a substance to their posts that some just lack.

Kind of like that Old Spice commercial. "If you want it, you must have it. To have it, you must have wanted it. To get more, you have to have had some in the first place, but if you have none, then you can't get that first bit to get started"... and whatnot. It's nonsense. See, I mentioned earlier in this thread I was fried... Now, can't I decompile in peace? :spin :dramaquee

Finals are always remembered longer than regular season games, unless something tragic happens. Even then... I'm sure I've seen umteen "greatest regular season games ever" in my life.
