I looked at them this morning and Spurs are still on top.
I looked across the stat lineand noticed that Dallas was ahead in most of the areas stated. I was just wondering what stat he uses that moves the Spurs ahead of the Mavs?
Not talking trash here, or complaining, Just wondering what stat puts them over the top?

Was that before or after the St. Patrick's Day embarrassment? :bang

Dallas' win against Detroit was a win without Chauncey, that would most likely not gain them a spot in the rankings. It was a rather close game too.
I think point differential is what Hollinger puts first, not wins and losses.

two of our better defenders were out as well (buckner and devean) but whatever, i have long ago stopped trying to figure out holinger's rankings because none of that really matters now, we're too close to the playoffs to pay attention to such garbage

Waaah,
Hunter was out for the Pistons who is a better defender than Buckner and Devean combined, Waaah!

Yes and they need to start soon while the Suns still have the #2 seed locked up...

offense wins games... but defense wins championships.

Yeah, no kidding.
The Hollinger rankings suck to me (no offense to Mr. Hollinger or any stat geeks). I understand that there's a lot of stats and thought going into them, but that all doesn't translate to the basketball court. I guess they serve their purpose, but I just think it's funny that before the Spurs winning streak, they were number 1 in the Hollinger rankings, during the peak of the win streak - still number 1. Now after losing to two of the embarrassments of the NBA, they are still on top :lol
Please. Even statistically the Spurs have fluctuated quite a bit. (i.e. their defense tightening during the win streak).
Anyway, I wish the frickin' playoffs would hurry up and start.

Amen, it's all I think about these days, I think (HOPE!) the matchups will provide for some very good games/series. I could see several series going the distance.

Thanks. You're right about the first one. 50 games isn't nearly enough. Personally, I think we really need about 150 games to see who are the best teams. Hey, wait a minute. Don't all NBA teams (except the most putrid) make the playoffs anyway? Ok, nevermind my 150 games comment.

:lol are you kidding? Hollinger's rankings are a big indicator which team is the best in the league. Not the number of wins.
Actually I'm glad you guys are on top, and secured. Because it would have been a lot more worrisome for both of us, if our teams were neck and neck. As long as we get the 2nd or 3rd seed. I'm happy.

What really sucks is being up 2-0 on an Eastern Conf team in the finals and then getting swept.

Why not go for the hat trick? You dropped "three rings", now "choked in the finals", so let's wrap things up with a nice generic Hasselhoff reference, or maybe something about exercise bikes?

Well, Billups does more scoring but the point was defense. Having those guys to play some D would have been nice. I really don't understand anyone using the excuse that the Pistons didn't have Billups hurt them so much...Flip Murray scored 18 and Billups averages 17. What did he not give them that Billups would have? Plus, Murray had quite a few steals. I'm just saying, Murray filled in nicely. I'm not comparing the different players being out. Only stating that Murray gave as much as far as scoring and defense as Billups gives on average.

that's a fair assessment for sure :tu
but if billups was to get 17, and even if murray was to get only 8 points off the bench, that extra bench production could've made a huge difference in such a close game. Murray stepping up was nice, but then who is there to carry the load in the 2nd unit for the pistons?
and on another quick note, i wish the playoffs wouldn't start for another 4 months if only because the spurs are so ridiculously far from being ready

Back to the subject at hand :)
If he puts more height in margin of victory (.16 differeance between Mavs/Spurs), then why even have the other stats. I would think that a close win against a very good team would be worth more then a blow-out of a weak team.
I mean the Mavs are up on strength of schedule and W/L. To the layman, that would tend to put them on top. Personally, I would factor in who the team lost too ... If they only loose to the better teams, and don't loose to "lesser teams" that should go in their favor as well.
I don't know, I was just wondering if anyone can actually figure his system out and explane it, because it just doesn't seem right the way that it is shown (With the Mavs leading in every catogory except one, and its very close, but being ranked second.)

I may be wrong, but I think the difference might be that the Spurs have had more road games. That effect should be negated after this slew of road games for the Mavs.

They have played more road games then the Mavs, but in the extra games they are 1-4. That should actually work against them.
I think that I am just going to have to think that Hollinger REALLY likes the Spurs ... I mean, their rating goes up after a home loss to the Celtics?

Billups is a pretty good defender as well (at least on a person w/ normal foot speed), plus he's a wayyyyy more productive playmaker than Murray. It ain't all about the points.
