I don't wish injuries on anyone, but the Mavs have been one of the luckiest teams in the NBA this year in terms of health, not unlike the Pistons last year. But luck always runs out eventually.

No they were showing signs of finally tiring out.
They played 11 games in 17 days with 8 of them on the road. They went 9 & 2. They were only the 10th team in the history of the NBA to win all 6 games of a 6 game road trip.
I would say that if anything they proved their resilliancy in refusing to lose minus their Best Player and their 2nd best player hobbling on the b2b game at the end of a long trip.

But luck always runs out eventually.I understand that is a popular opinion this year, that we have been "lucky" in terms of health. But honestly I don't think that is the case at all. Have the Spurs been lucky also? I think the Mavs have had more health problems than the Spurs.
Josh went down at the beginning of the year. Stackhouse was unavailable for a long stretch. George is just now getting back from injury. Buckner has battled an injury. Both Dirk and Josh have had ankle issues. And those are only the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

What do you mean by horrible thread? :) I asked a legitimate question. Is the Dallas Mavericks team show signs of wear and tear? The Spurs are called an "old" all the time. It raises questions about the ability of the team to stay healthy. You mean to tell me you think the health of the Mavericks team is above being called into question. I think those injuries are minor or moderate and I don't think this will jinx the team in anyway? Gimme a break..... :sleep

I hear ya...but the reason I posed the question is b/c those players did injure themselves...Is it b/c of wear and tear...You know they played Milwaukee last night and barely won the game..Just like the Spurs struggled with New Orleans... Then you should say the same about the Spurs. The Spurs have actually been healthier than the Mavs.
The Spurs big 4 have played in just over 97% of the available games this year. The Mavs big 4 have played in just over 92% of theirs.
So by your theory, the Spurs luck should be running out soon too.

i don't know about that. if you compare duncan's playoff stats last season with the 04-05 playoff season (taking into account that the spurs played ten more games in 05), there's not much difference, in fact, certain positive stats were higher in 06 than in 05!

The thread is horrible for a lot of reasons.
First off, you said it would be poetic justice if they had to play hurt this year. That in itself is lame. Don't you want to see the teams at full strength? By the way, in last year's semi's, Manu and Timmy were pretty healthy. The person that was hurting was Tony (but that's irrelevant).
Secondly, if you know Dirk, you know he has rubber ankles. I have seen him roll ankle that rolls all the way over and touches the court .... and then play five minutes later. If the same roll happened to Manu, he'd be out for weeks. So when Dirk rolls an ankle, it's pretty much non-news and doesn't mean he's worn down.
Also, I don't question their ability to stay healthy. JHo and Terry were injured early in the season and they were tearing through the league. So even if their players are bumped and bruised as they head into the postseason, they aren't likely to slow down.

I wonder what makes some people's ankles that way? I have the same fortunate "rubber" ankles - I never had to tape them for football or basketball growing up because if they rolled they would be just fine in a few minutes after a quick massage and walking around.

Dirk said turning the ankle slightly made his bone spurs (that he's had in there for awhile) rub together and it really hurt. He would have continued to play but Avery shut him down after seeing how much he was limping. Dirk said that they've been hurting for awhile and will continue to hurt for awhile...that he'd just have to deal with it.

Duncan played that playoff run on two sprained ankles. He was probably better off with the plantar fiscitis in 06 than he was with the ankles at the end of 05.

Well ya know they ended our streak... only 2....not bashing if thats the notion, just reminding...imho, this team, with a good solid lotto pick and a few FA can contend. Milwaukee, I mean.
And to the starter of this thread,
noobs do not make friends fast when making bad threads. I played it very safe as a noob, and have very few criticism of me to show for it. Hell, some people probaly still consider me a noob, though I never tried to say the wrong things. Its an unwritten rule that you dont wish, or in your case hope, that another team's best players get injured.
You took my comment out of context, if you had put the whole thing you would have seen I was being sarcastic, it was only a joke. Im going to have to make Hamlin lay you out you do it again! :lol

Eh, leave Dirk Nowitizki out and throw in Lakeshow. That way there's a PHX/SAS/DAL/LAL battle royal.

I don't wish injuries on anyone, but the Mavs have been one of the luckiest teams in the NBA this year in terms of health, not unlike the Pistons last year. But luck always runs out eventually.
Uhhh, what?

Then you should say the same about the Spurs. The Spurs have actually been healthier than the Mavs.
The Spurs big 4 have played in just over 97% of the available games this year. The Mavs big 4 have played in just over 92% of theirs.
So by your theory, the Spurs luck should be running out soon too.
I suppose they have been relatively lucky, but only in that the injuries they have sustained thus far have been minor - KNOCK WOOD, KNOCK WOOD, KNOCK WOOD.
Really, it's all about TD and Manu for the Spurs, and Dirk and Howard for the Mavs. Without either one of those two, the chances of their respective teams winning a championship drops dramatically.
