Yeah, you're right. Purdue defensive ends don't amount to shit in the NFL.
Dubbed the "Den of Defensive Ends," the Boilermakers have sent Akin Ayodele (Dallas Cowboys), Rosevelt Colvin (New England Patriots), Ray Edwards (Minnesota Vikings), Rob Ninkovich (New Orleans Saints), Chike Okeafor (Arizona Cardinals) and Shaun Phillips (San Diego Chargers) to the pros since Joe Tiller arrived as Purdue's head coach.

What a bunch of super studs.
I was talking about this season. Big 10 doesn't seem to have a bunch of stud DE's. Thus, Thomas didn't see that great a group of DE's. Meaning Spencer is the best of a watered down group. I hate the cowboys.
John Patrick
04-28-2007, 04:57 PM
we colud take Alan, if we wanted depth behind Jamal Williams....and he's getting up there in age...30+ lets see

From what I'm reading on the Chargers board, many LSU fans are saying Davis is just as good if not better than Bowe. Bowe only led in catches one year at LSU, with Davis leading all other years. Chargers needed a deep threat and a kick returner, they got both in one pick.

The NFL Draft is popular, but it could still use some tweaking.
Mike Ehrmann/WireImage.com
Some have argued that the NFL Draft is the biggest sporting event in America. I'm not sure I'd go that far, but it's probably the most hyped. The Super Bowl gets two weeks of hype, the Draft gets two or three months. Having said that, there are still a few tweaks I'd implement to make the Draft even more enjoyable.
1. Move the draft to week nights. While no event gets hyped like the NFL Draft, the reality is most people don't want to spend hours indoors on a late April weekend. Start the draft on a Monday night and drag it out by showing one round a night for a week.
2. Move the draft location. Hold the draft inside the stadium of the team that has the No. 1 pick. This could be risky because of trades, but that would only add to the drama.
3. Put a limit on the number of graphics ESPN uses on the screen. There are usually four things scrolling at the bottom, some graphic on the left side and then another at the right and somewhere in the middle you might be able to see a player or one of the network's 5,287 commentators. Sometimes less is more. This would be one of those cases.
4. Cut down the 15 minutes between picks. I'd vote for one minute between picks but that may be extreme. So let's say two minutes between picks.
5. Instead of having NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announce the picks, bring in the WWE's legendary ring announcer, Howard Finkel, to do the honors. And let each player pick a song that can be played as he walks to the podium, sort of like baseball players who pick the music that's played when they come to bat.
What would you do to improve the NFL Draft?

He caught more passes (61) for more yards (518) than any running back in the nation and recorded two receiving touchdowns. John Murphy's take: This is one of the best pure football players in this year's draft -- one that is versatile enough to play either running back or fullback at the next level. Leonard bulked up for his senior campaign in order to serve as the lead blocker for Ray Rice, but what impressed both scouts, coaches and teammates alike was that, unlike most potential pro athletes, he put his team and its needs ahead of his own after having gained over 3,900 yards of total offense in his first three seasons with the Scarlet Knights.
He has some of the draft's best hands out of the backfield, having totaled 207 career receptions. He was able to bruise his way to yardage in the second half of games, but he also has quick feet to the hole and can bounce a few carries outside for big gains. A good cutback-style runner, Leonard uses very good vision, balance and power to consistently gain yardage. That said, he needs to make better use of his size once he gets into the open field. He has been susceptible to being tackled around the ankles or when defenders grab at his legs.
Leonard proved to be a viable and productive member of the backfield from the fullback position. A very good cut blocker, he can stand his ground firmly when picking up the blitz. He will dip his head at times and lead in without having the full balance of his body weight underneath him, but his effort is never waning. Leonard's workout numbers will surprise. He has spent the offseason getting his weight back down to the mid-220-pound range while focusing on his explosiveness, speed and quickness in the 40-yard dash and drills. It should not be surprising to see him run in the 4.5 range at the combine.

Chargers pick up LB Anthony Waters (Clemson) in 3rd round.
I love this pick. Had he not had a season ending ACL injury, he'd have gone much higher. This is one of those picks that two years from now people will be saying what a genius AJ Smith is. Probably my favorite pick of the day.

iwasnt criticizing them not taking quinn. I was criticizing them taking ginn.I got to say I am surprised, but not so much dissapointed. I think Ginn could be good for us, just was not worthy of #9. I think the KR/PR was a need after losing Wes Welker. We need an explosive guy to give us some field position, hopefully he can be our Devin Hester. John Beck is good pick up for the 2nd round, as long as we get Trent Green for a year, Beck should transition nicely.
