Why do all the announcers pronounce Nenê's name as nuh-NAY? It sounds ridiculous.
It's NAY-nay. Just like it's pronounced in Spanish. In Portugese, the hat over the e means it's part of an unemphasized syllable. If it was spelled Nené then it would be pronounced nay-NAY. But it's not.
Every single announcer pronounces his name like this.

No, he thinks he´s brazilian. Almost every brazilian athlete is known for his first name or a nickname. It´s not something just reserved to the big ones like Pelé.
Few examples: Romário, Kaká, Robinho, Guga (Gustavo Kuerten), Giba (volley), etc.
Plus, his last name would sound a bit bizarro in the USA and Brazil (Hilário). :P

Sorry to go all pedantic on you baseline, but most of the commentators are getting Nene's name right--it's pronounced Ne-NEH, with the accent on the last syllable and the little hat (circunflex) indicates you should put emphasis there--in Portuguese there's two different types of pronunciation of the letter "e"--that's why they have two different accent marks--the circunflex (more of an "eh" sound) and the grave accent (more of an "ay" sound)--for when they want to put emphasis on a syllable.
Now my knowledge of the mechanics of basketball? Can fit into a thimble. For a season or two I was too afraid to ask on this board what a pick-and-roll was, and I couldn't really get a clear idea of it from wikipedia. I had to have a friend who's really into basketball explain the concept and even he got frustrated with me. :)
