View Full Version : JR Smith crying about Manu

Manu Ginobili has been driving past Smith with what Smith terms his "Euro step."

"He takes an extra step every time he gets into the paint," Smith said. "It always works for him. They never call a walk. I might try it."

"It's not very much fun when you have to put J.R. on Ginobili," George Karl said. "You don't think Pop knows that? Every play he runs when Ginobili is in the game is against (Smith). J.R. gets tricked. We're going to spend some time with J.R."

odd smith would say such a thing..while in the nba it is common to take three (or more steps for that matter) steps while driving without getting called for traveling, in Europe not a single player would get away with this!!

===> stop bitchin

J.R. would have to actually know what the paint looks like first. All he does is shoot 3s. That's why he's hardly in the rotation anymore. The last time he went inside the paint Melo got suspended 15 games.

Manu and Tony travel all the time and it's rarely called. But AI palms the ball and Carmelo pushes off when he's dribbling, so it's pretty even.

Kobe Bryant doesn't travel.

After whining that, did J.R. Smith have that look of utter grievance and angst on his grill like George Karl does after losses?

Why don't they call it? From the moment Manu stepped on the NBA court he did that, and it looked like a travel -- no one else in the league had anything that looked close to Manus Euro Travel. Even the 4 steps players take on fastbreaks look like less of a travel then Manus at first glance. Why do the refs allow this to occur? Manu was not a big name or a known product when he came into the NBA.

THIS is why Pop plays Manu off the bench: so he can get the most out of a great matchup against a no defense playing crybaby like Smith.

Truly the sign of a Denver team that has no fear of the Spurs. :lol

Parker does more than extra steps to deserve his travelling calls from officials. Tony plays "Guess My Pivot Foot", sometimes multiple times while waiting for a play to develop.

Shaq is one of the worst. He is allowed to clear out space before he dunks and gets away with big hops with long hesitations before he takes a shot, which should be up and down or traveling calls.

True. And if you want to get technical about it, about 5 times a game when Duncan is trailing and they throw it to him at the top of the arc to reverse the ball, he takes a step off his pivot foot.

But the NBA decided years ago that it was going to be very liberal with its traveling calls. There are very very few players that have a right to complain about anybody else getting away with it.

The worst was Derek Anderson. He didn't always even travel with a purpose. He'd just stand out behind the 3 point arc and move his feet all over the place, changing his pivot foot two or three times.

I think a ton of booing and overall harsh treatment from the Denver fans is exactly what Manu needs to get going, to get the energy and competitive fire up again. The best thing the Denver fans could do would be to not show him any attention whatsoever, but those dumb asses are going to end up sparking him to dominating performances against their own team.

Since Andrei Kirilenko actually does cry (here's just one of a few examples that have been put out for public consumption), it's kind of a disservice to him when you say other players cry. 'Bitch' or 'Whine' would be better.

A "euro step"? Where the hell did that come from and what does it have to do with the style of play in europe? If JR keeps playing like he has been, then he might actually BE in Europe to make the comparison.... but until then, shut it.

Bullshit...they talked about that 2 years ago.

I remember Manu saying I always take 2 steps.

I had to search for it but it was there in my head. So I looked...

SI did an article about Manu.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/pr/subs/siexclusive/2005/pr/subs/siexclusive/06/07/nba.pistons0613/index.html It was an article called "Manu off to the races. " You need to be an insider to get there but if you just do a little more investigation...

I found it here:
http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17838&highlight=Ginobili+steps

Screw you JR!!!!

Though his legs are relatively short for his frame, Ginobili covers an inordinate amount of ground, which has led to much wailing that he travels more than a rail-riding hobo. "I do not travel," says Ginobili. "I take two steps always." Bowen, who played for parts of two seasons in France, agrees. "We're taught over here to take these little pitty-pat two steps, but in Europe they take two long steps," he says. One NBA referee, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that while officials do get complaints about Ginobili's alleged traveling, "it's not even an issue."

Along with long steps, Ginobili takes side steps, so his journey to the hoop is seldom a straight -- or predictable -- route. He charges into the lane like a tailback into the line, feinting toward one hole then darting into another. "Manu's learned to take his steps wide and not in the same direct path," says Bowen. "He uses his steps to get around people, not just by them."

Hey JR...quityourbitchin'! Be happy that Manu didn't sign with your team, otherwise you'd be playing in the D League.

RECOGNIZE GREATNESS, it's name is Manu Ginobili! :fro
