What I REALLY like is the Spurs are winning close games and not allowing the Nugs back in, unlike the way the played against sacto last year. That is the brightest sign for me.

Even if the end up playing Dallas, I think this shows that they are sharp enough to close out the close games. If Dallas does somehow make it out of the 1st round, I say Spurs in 6.

Even with the Nuggets denying that this series is slowly becoming a flashback of the 2005 first round series they played against the Spurs, there is no denying that the signs are there. In Game 1 of this series, Denver stole a win in San Antonio by the same point margin as in 2005. The only difference was the final score. But not all that different, only two points above the final score of the 2005 series for both teams.

Game 2 of this series was a little different. Denver hung around much longer, and the Spurs nine point win wasn't indicative of how they played, nearly blowing a 17 point lead down the stretch. It wasn't a completely dominant performance as the 2005 Game 2 was.

Next up, is another shocking similarity. In Game 4 of the 2005 series, I believe it was Earl Boykins who nearly tied the game down the stretch with a 3 point jumper, but it was ruled a 2 point shot because his foot was on the line. In Game 4 tonight, Steve Blake blew a chance to tie the game by stepping onto the three point line, leaving the Spurs with a one point lead that they never let go of.

Game 5 will be the final chance for the Nuggets to prove that this series hasn't slowly evolved into a replay of '05. But I don't think the Spurs will blow a chance to close out the series at home on Wednesday. After this hard fought win in Denver, a loss at home would be a letdown.

Horry's 3 was a thing of beauty...that dagger likely just sealed this series for the Spurs.

Impressive numbers in the end. After being killed on the boards almost all night long, the Spurs fight back to tie in total rebounds and end up with MORE offensive rebounds than the Nuggs.

Iverson and Camby were 11-19 from the floor in the first half and 17-32 from the floor through three quarters, but finished only 20-43 for the night. Not great, but solid improvment through the night that proved to make a huge difference.

They survived Nene going 7-9 from the floor.

And they survived Eddie F. Rush.

Pretty good all the way around.

My thoughts so far:

Smallball works GREAT in small doses. It completely fucked up Denver's momentum to start the fourth quarter. This is what the Smallball critics have been asking for since last year.

Pop has been brilliant in this series. He waited until right before the inbounds play to insert Finley for Bowen, which made everyone key off him and not the guy who was standing on the other side of the court. Then, when Denver was expecting Parker to stand there and dribble the ball, looking at the shot clock, he went to the hole, forcing Camby to make a decision. Brilliant. As critical as I've been of Pop on this board, I refuse to believe that the above was anything other than carefully orchestrated.

Third, all of you that turned on Duncan in the first half need to go become Nuggets fans. Duncan completely set up Camby like a good pitcher does to the opposing batters. Camby feasted on the blocks for the first half and just completely fell victim to the pump fake in the second half where Timmy did his damage. Duncan did an excellent job of (finally) shutting up and just playing his game. I love when he gets pissed!

Spurs are playing 10 deep in this round, and getting decent bench production (minus Manu's numbers of course). That is a huge advantage when you can call on that many players.

Denver is only playing 8 deep, and getting basically 0 from the 3 bench players. It all depends on AI and Melo, and AI isn't consistent enough.
