View Full Version : Spurs: Championship Favorites?

Even though they've been the favorite to win the championship all year, many people said Dallas was the favorite. So now since there's no opposition in the playoffs left for the Spurs (except Phoenix, but not major opposition), are the Spurs set to bring home their 3rd trophy in 5 years? Duncan will have 4, Horry will have 7, Parker, Ginobili, and Bowen will have 3.

Which i don't get at all. Given the Spurs experience and success against the Suns. They just beat a better team in 5 games than the Suns beat in 5 games. Maybe it is just the Home Court advantage people are looking at but not only did the Spurs take the Suns out in 5 games, 2 years ago but the Suns lost all 3 home games they played in that series.

SpursDynasty should stop posting anything revolving around the concept of which team is favored to win in the NBA.

Being the favorite in Vegas is not the same as being the "real" favorite. Vegas just wants equal money on both sides and there will be a lot of people betting on this series that only know that the Suns have a better record and HCA so they'll bet on them. Thus Vegas makes the Spurs the underdogs so they can entice people to bet on them (creating equal money on both sides). Vegas just wants their 10% vig.

I said GS was the favorite to win the series, and won the series 4-2. That wasn't just talking out of my ass. I also made a bet on that series therefore monosy1abk had to go fishing until after the playoffs.
The Spurs are the favorites to win the championship.
Let's hope Utah doesn't let me down tomorrow night, I've been saying Houston is a fluke all season long...

Just because you say it doesnt make it true dipshit. The Warriors were never the favorites regardless of what you say

I believe when most everyone hears the "favorite" to win they automatically assume who the favorite it in Vegas. You have who you think/believe is the favorite which is fine but they aren't the Vegas favorites so you really just confuse everyone.

So because the Spurs fans are underestimating them the team is? Thats got to be one of the dumbest things Ive ever heard. I find it hard to believe Pop and co. are underestimating anyone on the playoffs

Bit early for that. Sunday morning they may be. At most a couple of points (cover HCA) is about all the Suns will be favored.
By Sunday night they could easily be huge underdogs.

It will just depend on how much upfront action this series gets. San Antonio & Phoenix aren't big markets so I'm guessing there's not a lot of action and the Suns will remain a small favorite but ya really never know.

Everyone on earth drinks the Suns kool-aid when they dominate and go on long winning streaks.....then they run up against the Spurs and get reminded that they aren't the best team in basketball.
Just as the Warriors owned the Mavs in the regular season and follow suit in the playoffs, I expect the Spurs, who owned the Suns for two of their three games, to follow suit in the playoffs.
By no means do I think it will be a blowout, and hell it might go seven...but the Spurs will come out on top.
Need a reason? Two words....Transition Defense

from chad ford blog
Rocke (LA): What are your thoughts on the Suns-Spurs series?
Chad Ford: I personally think this will be the best series of the playoffs. Whoever wins this, wins it all. I'm going with the Spurs in 7. I just think that defensively, they'll be able to slow the Suns just enough to slip by the Suns.

Your team plays the same way as it did 2 years ago and the result will not be much different.

I think the Spurs have also been better since 2 years ago. So its pretty much the same.
Can't wait for Game 1.

Bill Simmons just gave us the kiss of death....
"There isn't a happier team than the Spurs right now. Not only are they peaking at the perfect time, but Dallas was the one contender that matched up perfectly against them. Now they get the Suns (as much as I love watching the Suns, the Spurs are a terrible matchup for them), then the winner of Houston/Utah-Golden State, then whatever flawed team comes out of the East. Are you kidding me? During Thursday night's game, TNT should have had cameras at Tim Duncan's house, like how CBS has cameras at various colleges during the NCAA Tournament selection show. We needed to see the Spurs celebrating and pouring champagne on one another. Might as well start early. For all intents and purposes, you can put a fork in the 2007 NBA playoffs."

I don't think you understand basic discussion. I didn't say I thought the Spurs wouldn't win the series. I said the Spurs are not the favorite to win the series.
The Warriors were not the favorite to win the series vs. the Mavericks. They won the series as the underdog.

So the Suns are now as big a favorite in the Western Conference as the Pistons are in the East...fascinating.

LOL...STFU...you've been doing a bit with the "favorite" thing...
and YOU picked Dallas to win before the series started you flip-flopping fuck...
Eat shit...
I honestly believe GS is the better team when its Dallas v. GS (GS is 6-1 over the last 2 seasons vs Dallas), but not the better team overall vs the rest of the league. Dallas will simply get more calls in the favor. That's just the way it goes. That's why Dallas will win in 6 or 7 games, if they meet.
My prediction is that Dallas will get a couple of calls to go their way though, and win the series.
it's a lot easier to be right when you pick every possible outcome...

You don't think anything could've changed in the matchup between these two teams in the intervening two years?
