Nash played awesome on the offensive end, as always, and the Spurs decision to make him shoot all day and shut down the other guys was a sound strategy, just that it didn't work as well as the strategy should.
On the other hand, Parker had a career game again.

Yeah that's why I love Nash. He's a competitor, he didn't even ask D'Antoni to go back in, he just started walking towards the court. He even went right back to make sure Tony was OK after the collision. Just an overall great guy.

Cuban should pay someone to wipe his blood off the floor, clone it, and try to inject it into Dirk.

Nash gets huge props from me.

Up until this year, he was an overrated player. But this year, he's playing amazing, amazing basketball. Way better than he's ever played.

He went from a horrible defender to actually a pretty damn good help defender and a serviceable one-on-one defender. Offensively, he used to have to dominate the ball to but up huge stats. Now he can dominate without having to dribble 15 times each possession.

I used to think comparing him to Stockton was a joke, but right now he's much better than Stockton ever was.

I hope his nose isn't broken. I fear it is. I've broken my noce three times (was a boxer in high school) and two of the three times it just poored blood like that. If he broke it, he may have to wear those GD masks which always take a while to get used to.

I pray it's just a gash that couldn't be closed without taking him back and stitching him up.

It looked really bad. I hope it's not a game-affecting injury.

Great seeing him get the recognition for being a player who never gives in, never gives up.

He better have wanted to play, I'm pretty sure anyone would. Blood doesn't = extreme pain. Nash barely was affected by the cut, it just didn't stop bleeding.

I'm just saying, why dont we put things in perspective...Nash is a two-time MVP in the NBA playoffs, 2nd round against arguably the best team alive in the playoffs. That cut clearly didn't hurt at all after seeing how he was barely affected, it was just blood.

Considering this, why the fuck wouldn't Nash want to return?

Why don't one of you fans in San Antonio stab him in the stomach and see if he returns before labeling him King Leonidas of Sparta.

I'll agree with this. Losing today probably pissed Steve off more than that gash hurt. He gets credit for wanting to play through an injury, but it's not like he couldn't have played and played well had the rules not prohibited him from doing so. It's not like he had an eye ripped out, or a joint dislocated.

Are you just downplaying what happened to Nash? It is a gash. It is still a painful injury. Nash not affected? A lot can go on. It might have affected his vision and obviously discomforted him. Have you seen him applying water into his eyes yet still wanting to play?

Seriously he really IS that good. He's a legitimate superstar on a tier level of Kobe and Tim. Not necessarily in abilities, but the way he changes the game with his presence.

In 2005, I never considered him as such.

I live in Dallas and when he played here I knew he was good but I didnt think he was great. The guy is great, played with heart (esp today bleeding all over the place) and isnt a crybaby. I will note as well Parker took quite a crack on the head that I think knocked him out and came back tough. A good game by any standard by both teams.

Indeed, I hope his injury isn't too serious. Even if it is broken, I can't see him sitting out Game 2. He will probably have to wear that mask though and that has to suck.

I may be in the wrong here, but I'm not sure I like how D'Antoni handled it. I know that Nash was fighting to get back in the game, but I don't know if it would've been in the best interest of him or the team for him to play. Maybe they assessed that it wasn't that bad and all of the adrenaline was what kept the blood flowing. I just can't imagine Pop letting one of his players go back on the floor like that, no matter how much they begged him.

And BTW, I agree...it's not as much of a joke to compare Nash to Stockton now.

Stockton in the early 90's was as good as Steve Nash...only meaner, and a better defender, and passer...and flopper, and as clutch. I do think Nash is a better scorer though.

I have to give Nash props for wanting to get back in there, but I have to give the Suns decision on how they handled it a thumbs down. They should have taken him to the locker room and patched it up properly as quickly as they could and then Nash might have been able to play the last moments of the game. I believe they took a risk with their MVP and they should be more cautious. Of course that may come from how much Pop is extremely cautious with his team.

I think that in the heat of the moment, the gash probably didn't hurt all that bad. I'm sure he felt it but when you're playing hard in a tight game like that, adrenaline takes over and you don't think about it like you normally would.

How he doesn't get the MVP this year is beyond me.

I think the Spurs need to lie down so he can go ahead and get the Finals MVP.

"They say he has grit..."
- Mattie Ross, "TRUE GRIT"

based on the way the trainer was pushing on that nose my bet is it is not broken just a giant gash. He will definitely have a good amount of stitches in that thing on Tuesday.

I've always respected Nash. After game 1, I only respect him more. He's not skeered, unlike Dirk.

Thanks guys for all of the good wishes for Nash.

Nash had 6 stitches and should be just fine.

Let's hope that bump on Parker's head slows him down a little, because there is no way that the Suns can win against the Spurs when Parker scores 30 and just kills Marion every time. The Suns need to keep Parker to around 20 to win.

Maybe they assessed that it wasn't that bad and all of the adrenaline was what kept the blood flowing.

While you gotta give Nash props for the heart to want to return, think about it in terms of reality....You get on the court, running up and down, which makes your heart pump faster and harder, which makes the blood flow faster. It simple biology. No way were they ever going to stop that blood flow in a few seconds.

Now you have to wonder, if he has to come out with one of those freaky masks on, how much will it hinder his court vision. Not to mention if the bridge of the nose is swollen and he has a couple of black eyes (which I don't see how he can't after a collision like that).

This injury, if it takes away from his game, could have more negative impact on the Suns than the way the Spurs have played them.

He doesn't get it because he has gotten it the past two years, and the media decided long ago it was Dirks turn to have it. The media isn't known for changing their minds, no matter how wrong they may be.

Nash is a leader.....Duncan is a leader.....Baron Davis is a leader.......
Dirk is a choker.

But regardless, he will hoist the trophy (or have it mailed to him)

I doubt that Nash will have to wear a mask because his nose is broken. But even if he does, he'd deserve to be sitting home with Dirk watching David Hasselhoff music videos if he let a thing strip of plastic come between him and a ring.

Good to see it's nothing too serious. I think Nash has definitely passed Stockton all-time, and I'd rank him as maybe the third best PG ever (Oscar and Magic are pretty untouchable at the top 2 spots). How many points have ever had a three-year run like Nash?

It was tongue in cheek. You misunderstood my post. The only thing that is going to slow down Parker is an injury. As a Suns fan, I want to see him slowed down. I would not wish injury upon anyone. He is already hurt, and the MVP is hurt as well. The Spurs have a much better shot to survive without Parker, than the Suns without Nash.

Relax. I like Tony Parker's game. If Barbosa ceiling is Tony Parker, I would be elated.

I didn't misunderstand your post, I just thought it was an incredibly poor choice of words. If your team wants to slow Paker down, they should consider playing defense. I know ESPN and ABC and Joe Knownothing hate defense and wish everything could be the all-star game, but at some point you have to just win it on the court.

Poor choice of words, maybe. If so I apologize. If you really thought I wanted to see Parker injured, you did misunderstand my post, poor choice of words or not.

The Suns have no idea how to slow down Parker, and that is on the coaching. The Suns need to do to them, what the Lakers did to Nash last series. Trap him high on the pick & roll.

Unfortunately, it looks like the team is made up the way it's made up, and they are just going to have to hope to outshoot their way to a win. From D'Antoni's sideline talks, it sounds like he doesn't have any way to adjust.

That trap didn't work for the Lakers or Mavericks, either.

After D'Antoni's press conference, he conceded that he needs to make adjustments, but I am convinced that he has no clue as to what they are.

The trap should work if executed properly. The ball gets out of the hands of Tony Parker. He can't score layup after layup, along with wide open jumpers if the ball isn't in his hands. The Suns players going under the P&R of the Spurs is retarded. Two years ago, maybe. Since then, Parker's outside shot is reliable.

Possibly, but the Suns might have a better chance leaving the ball in Parker's hands and daring him to keep up the hot shooting. Otherwise the ball ends up in Manu's hands a lot, and the last thing the Suns want is for him to get his confidence back.

I'd agree with you, if they could give up the dribble penetration and make him a jumpshooter. Marion tried that giving him 5 feet of space, and Parker still went around him.
