wow deep thoughts, you could say something to give substance to the statement such as, The jazz do not have a deep enough bench to outscore the spurs.

Everything I could say has been already said or shown. There's nothing else to add IMO.

Spurs are 0-8 all time in playoff games in Utah.in the malone-stockton era, yes. which is probably the last time they made it this far. it won't be a sweep, but i don't think it'll go more than 6. maybe 5.

I tend to agree with that. I could see 5...but that could likely be a stretch.

There is no way in hell the Spurs sweep and you are crazy if you think so. We've got to make sure we win the first 2 games at home because playing in Utah is a bitch. Spurs in 6.

:td Weak thread.

Game 1 hasn't even tipped off yet. I've seen Spurs fans looking ahead but this takes the cake.

Experience factor weighs heavily. It will be interesting to see if Jazz get it right during Spur's first home games. Sloan and his crew present a different rhythm and style, they'll keep pressuring the defense to keep up and will hack our big 3 for the full 48. Transition defense against the Suns was run the way Pop wanted it, and it was notched up when needed. Pair that with heat checks from perimeter and you'll see more pressure fall onto young Jazz shoulders. That you'll want to see in the 2nd and 4th periods. Finley will catch and shoot more, but he'll have less time to do so because he's become a focus in these playoffs. So RHorry will definitely have an opportunity to make a contribution.
You want to see Brent improve offensively. He can keep up with Jazz players and it's not a stretch to have him become an x factor before the half.

Then again, Pop is Pop and my little predictions and theories here can end up on the cutting room floor to be tossed away after an easy, lopsided victory (for Spurs!)

Are you kidding ? This is going to be a tough series. Utah is an excellent team. They have a great PF, a very good PG who will only get better and a very hard to match up with big man in Okur. He always seems to play well against us.

I'll just be happy to make it to the Finals. I don't care how many games it takes. And for what its worth, I'd like to see us play Cleveland in the Finals.. Now, that's a long shot for you.

LeBron has practically no help. Ilgaskas and that Brazilian dude...maybe.

Yeah, any stats from the Malone-Stockton era are out of context here. Since going 0-8 in SLC, all the Spurs have done is win 3 championships.

Now Utah being 0-18 in SA since 1999 is very much relevant since the same team is in place today for the Spurs.

Spurs in five. I dont think the Jazz win any here. We are good for one up there however.

Congrats to the Spurs team for a well-played series with the Suns.

I look forward to the Spurs-Jazz series, as well as the discussions on this board. Is it really 18-0 Spurs in games since 1999 between these two teams? Were all those games coached by Pop vs. Sloan?

The problem is that statement doesn't include any substance. We got a pretty solid bench.

Your bench sucks.

Harpring is a stud, Millsap is a beast, Giricek played great at the end of the year and against the Rockets (not so much against the Warriors for whatever reason), Brewer's played very little, but when he's been in he's looked good too. Our bench definitely does not suck. Not the best, but still pretty good.

I wouldn't say Harpring's a "stud", but he certainly is a dependable junkyard dog, as is Millsap. Giricek is horrible though, much like Barry can be, and Brewer is an unknown... I'd say your bench is decent.

Your biggest problem is inconsistent 3-pt shooting (33% for the year), something the Spurs will accentuate as we are the best at shutting down the 3 in the league. That means you have to beat us inside, and that should be a helluva battle (Boozer, Okur, Millsap v Duncan, Horry, Oberto... forget Elson! :lol ).

I think that the Jazz are in for a rude awakening tomorrow. They just got past a two-man team in the Rockets and beat an untempered Golden State team that was just too wild. Give the Jazz their due, they will fight hard. Spurs in five however.

The chances of SA winning this in 4 are about the same as Jessica Alba begging to go out with me. What the Jazz lack in experience they make up for in execution and depth. Do I believe the Jazz will win the series? not really. But the Jazz are a well coached team that was able to beat SA twice this year, not to mention win a game 7 on the road after being down 2-0. Couple that with having the ability to change styles and run and gun with the warriors and I'd say SA has their hands full for 6 or 7 games.

Spurs are 0-8 all time in playoff games in Utah.

The teams that played in Utah in the playoffs in previous years were nowhere near as good as the team that will play Utah this year.

I'd like to see a San Antonio sweep but I think Utah is too good to lose 4 straight. I'm thinking Spurs in 5 or 6.

Spurs fans should be used to not getting ahead of 'emselves. The old cliche - one game at a time folks.

The Jazz can play offense and defense, they rebound like crazy, take good shots, have versatile bigs (and more of them), have a huge home court advantage, and they are rested.

If the Spurs sweep I can say that I'll be pleasantly shocked.

Spurs need to win it in 5 otherwise, Utah tough to beat in game 6 and then Spurs will have to win game 7.

Saying Spurs in a tough 5 games.

I'm with timvp on this one. The Jazz are formidable, and have many guns. Playing at their place is going to give us problems. This is one series where HCA is important to the Spurs. They have to win every game in SA. Then , steal one up there.

Spurs have not played Utah in playoffs since Tim's rookie year, and TD spained his left ankle in a game and sat out the next game....I do not think your stats hold any sunstance.

michaelwcho
05-20-2007, 10:56 AM
I don't know...it took the Jazz 7 games and their share of breaks to beat a team with Andre the giant, TMac and the Laker's role players. Boozer was playing against a statue. Then they sweated out quite a few against the Warriors before they beat them down...this time, Boozer was playing against the GS Midgets. This time, they're playing against the best or 2nd best team of the decade....and Boozer's playing against Tim Duncan.

Sure I could be wrong, I just don't see how the Jazz could win without luck and the cooperation of the officials.

22 pt 3rd qr lead down to 7 is very disconscerting. Bruces trey was huge and bottom line Spurs came back and won so that is good.

Utah completely different team with their cult home crowd.
I'll be happy with a split for 3-1.
