Boy oh damn boy I hope the boys take care of business tonight. This is the first game of this series...actually this entire playoffs, in which I'm very confident of a victory. The Spurs are close to the Finals, they don't want to go back to Utah by any means.

If they do clinch tonight, 4 NBA Finals appearances in less than a decade is surreal if you sort of mentally migrate back to around 1995 right after the Spurs were eliminated by Houston. Many of us dreamed to just MAKE the Finals someday...some decade. Lo and behold, look at us now, three championships later, questing for a fourth. Unbelievable.

Go Spurs!

Richard Oliver: Williams to play
Express-News columnist Richard Oliver is part of the coverage team for the Spurs' postseason run. He sends along his observations:

Ready for Action

The Jazz have come onto the court for their pregame warmups, and Deron Williams is part of the action.

Derek Fisher, however, is not on site just yet.

Williams has been receiving treatment for a sprained foot, and had been seen hobbling around on a flexible cast.

Fisher reportedly remains iffy because of a medical procedure affecting his daughter in New York City, but is trying to return in time for the contest. Williams has been in the trainer's room all evening.

"Whether he goes out there and tries," Utah coach Jerry Sloan said a few moments ago when asked about what will determine whether Williams plays. "I don't make those decisions. That's entirely up to our medical staff. If it was left up to me, I would be very cautious about any player."

Williams, who is averaging nearly 20 points and nine assists in the postseason, and Fisher, at 10 points and nearly three assists, are both listed as gametime decisions.

Crowd Control

Sloan reiterated his distaste for the reaction of the Jazz crowd late in Monday's game. Then, as officials hit Utah with a slew of foul calls and thumbed Sloan and Fisher with technicals, debris was thrown on the court and the Spurs were forced to hustle to the locker room shortly after a 91-79 victory.

"Yeah, I felt bad about what happened up there," Sloan said. "It was one of those things that I think they got too involved. We probably all got too involved in the game.

"I think it is always bad for basketball when those things happen because San Antonio is a wonderful franchise. They have a wonderful group of players and coaches and staff and everything. I hate to leave it with any kind of negative approach, but that certainly didn't help it."

Pregame

As they did in Games 1 and 2, the Jazz changed up the usual configuration for the contest, having the Spurs warm up and start the game on offense in front of the Utah bench. Usually, it's the other way around.

By doing so, Sloan reportedly wants to make it more difficult for the Spurs to set defensive alignments in the fourth quarter, when the Jazz will be shooting at the basket in front of their own bench.

Deron Williams looks pretty decent tonight from the very superficial things I've seen. Hopefully he'll be able to play a nice game and not have to bail like Larry Hughes did last night (understandably). The guy has been so good, I'd prefer him go down swinging rather than just going down with an injury.
