Despite not playing great I see a lot of motivation in the younger guys and some decent prospects and that puts me in a good mood.

And i am with you on the prospects. Dragic has a huge upside.
Vidmar and Klobucar could also develop into great players.
Lorbek brothers will be solid but nothing spectacular.

Well, Rasho carried quite the burden tonight. It led to a few missed shots and a couple of turnovers, but he did have 12 rebounds, 11 points and a couple of blocked shots. I am so happy for him.
Slovenia needs to sick Dragic on Parker as he is the key to France.

I liked the way Pipan led our team today. All substitutions seemed logical and he even played Jaka at the 2 spot and let Dragic be our PG.

Slovenia needs to sick Dragic on Parker as he is the key to France.
If it doesnt happen from minute 1 (meaning Dragic replaces someone in the starting lineup) im mad.
Lakovic cant cover Parker in his dreams.
This game wil be important since both teams will be in the second round and so the points of the victory will be kept.
The key is beyond the arc IMO. IF Slovenia wants to have a chance, they'll have to make their 3's.
Finally a game I'll be able to watch. Hopefully we don't get crushed. :lol
BTW, anyone know why they changed the system for second round?

Pipan had a briliant idea of putting lakovic on Parker, so he needs to work hard on D and of course Jaka gets worked hard on O too (not by Parker). Pure briliance - make our PG who will play something like 40 minutes work hard on both ends of the floor.

Rasho did not even hardly bump Tony. He just took the intentional foul that is always taken to stop the easy basket.

I wish every Rasho hater watched this game-- saw this man who wants to win and who fights hard for his team. People have talked like Rasho can't be a leader, but he has been a leader for these guys. Through his hard work and attitude, but also through his passion and effort and emotion today. Guess he pulled a Pop- huh? Rasho has been so optimistic about this team- despite the absences and all. Guess he knows of what he speaks. These guys played with heart today. It was a great game- even if SLO had lost, but I am glad they won! These points may help carry them into the top 8 hopefully...

Basically- Rasho got called for a BS second flagrant and got ejected in the third quarter. The team got behind by double digits and then they rose to the occasion. Dragic played great defense on Tony. Smodis and others started to score... Battled back- lead back and forth- a point here- a point there-- missed a few Ft's- got the stop. Made 2 FTs to be up by 2. TP fouled by Slokar with 2 seconds to go and he missed the second free throw. You have to download and watch this one.

I hope someone will youtube Rasho's ejection foul so people can see what we are talking about.
I am so down loading this game!
Tony lost the game on free throws. What a Spur thing to do. :lol :oops
Sho pretty much carried whole team through 1st half, got one flagrant during the process, and slightly injured Turiaf (without flagrant). At the beginning of 3rd Q he fouled (not hard at all!) Tony in order to cut fast break. Stupid ref called 2nd flagrant http://www.alter.si/tabla/images/graemlins/bonk.gif, hence Sho was ejected. Our bench got tehnical and players were really pissed. Smodiš took over, coach put Dragič on Parker (Dragič played really good defense) and Slovenia slightly took over. Ref tried to cut Slovenian play hoewever without succes. At the end D. Lorbek hit 2 free throws to put Slovenia +2, Tony made 1 of 2 two seconds in the game (missed last one) and Slovenia won. :elephant :king

From FIBA.com:
A defiant Slovenia side edged France 67-66 to clinch top spot of Group D.
With Slovenia leading 67-65 with 0.1 seconds left to play, France had a chance to take the game to overtime but Tony Parker only made one of two attempts from the charity stripe to give their opponents their third straight win.
With Jaka Lakovic heavily marked by Les Bleus, Slovenian guard Domen Lorbek came up strong for his team on the night.
Lorbek sank the crucial free-throws to give his team the lead for good with 12 second left on the clock.
The 22-year-old finished with 15 points and was a pefect five for five from the field and four of five from the charity stripe.
"We were lucky in the end and we won the game," said Lorbek.
Slovenia felt unjustly punished when the official threw out captain Rasho Nesterovic of the game after a foul on Parker three minutes into the third quarter but it by no means hindered his team.
"I am very proud of my team-mates for what they did tonight," said Nesterovic. "They showed a lot of character and unity to come from 15 points down and win the game."
The center’s disqualification saw France go up 48-33 but a never-say-die Slovenia hit back with a 16-3 run to take a 52-51 lead with two minutes left to play in the quarter.
"Nesterovic's departure changed the game completely," said France coach Claude Bergeaud.
"We played slow on offense and defense and in the last minutes of the game we had little energy and we lost our concentration."
Bergeaud had requested his team to have a balanced scoring and a better sharing of the ball after Parker's heroics led to a win over Italy.
FIBA Europe / Castoria / Giulio Ciamillo
Turiaf's 15 points weren't
enough as France lost their way
His wishes were immediately answered with France having four different players scoring his team's first points - Parker did finish with a game-high 25 points while Ronny Turiaf added 15.
Following a level first quarter, Les Bleus stepped up their defense and limited Slovenia to one point over the next three minutes as they went on a 7-1 run to take command.
France suffered a setback with, Turiaf - their leading top scorer (10 points) at that point in the game - left the court after sustaining a right shoulder injury following a foul from Nesterovic.
Parker hit his team's first three-pointer with less than two minutes to go in the first half.
It sparked his team on a 7-0 run, with the NBA superstar scoring five points in that surge to help France take a 39-31 half-time lead.
Bergeaud’s men committed just two turnovers in the first half while their opponents turned the ball over nine times.
France led 56-52 going into the final period but their hopes of pulling away were quashed as Slovenia kept hitting back.
With 54 seconds remaining and France leading 65-64, Parker missed a three-point attempt and his team-mate Tariq Kirksay fouled Lorbek, sending him to the line.
Lorbek made one of two to tie the contest at 65 a piece with 36 seconds on the clock.
Kirksay then missed a jumpshot and Lorbek again was sent to the foul line with 11 seconds left after being foul by Florent Pietrus. He made the pair to see Slovenia remain undefeated (3-0) in the group.
Slovenia were 18 for 24 (75%) from the free-throw line while France were 21 for 30(70%).
Slovenia out-rebounded France 32 to 27.

From FIBAEUROPE.com:
Slovenia Show Some Heart
By Jeff Taylor
07 September 2007
Before the start of the EuroBasket, Slovenia had two chances of winning Group D in Alicante – slim and none.
And slim just left town.
If that’s how most of us were thinking, Slovenia coach Ales Pipan and his players believed something else entirely.
Slovenia’s first three days of the EuroBasket have created a major stir back in Ljubljana.
Jaka Lakovic made a three-pointer at the buzzer – just five seconds after Matteo Soragna’s three-ball had put Italy into a two-point advantage – as Slovenia beat the Azzurri on opening night.
Slovenia then hammered Poland, and capped a magnificent group campaign with a victory over Tony Parker and France.
So despite the absences of veterans Bostjan Nachbar, Sani Becirovic, Beno Udrih, Marko Milic and Primoz Brezec, Slovenia were able to hit the ground running here in Spain.
“I felt we had the team (to do well), a good combination of experienced players and young players,” said coach Ales Pipan.
“Good chemistry. Our goal was to get to at least seventh place to reach the pre-Olympic qualifying tournament.”
Slovenia have been a strange team over the years, when they have tended to raise more questions than provide answers.
How, for example, does such a small country produce so many players at top clubs in Europe, and the NBA?
All of the aforementioned who are no-shows this summer have ties to the NBA, whether they have been drafted, played in the past, or play now.
Captain Rasho Nesterovic is a Toronto Raptor.
Matjaz Smodis, a lot of people would say, is the best power forward in Europe at CSKA Moscow.
But, frustratingly for many of their fans at least, this team hasn’t been a force in an international tournament yet.
Why?
Some people have questioned their heart.
Two years ago, they stormed into the quarter-finals and got steamrolled by Dirk Nowitzki and Germany.
Last year in Sapporo, at the FIBA World Championship, Slovenia bowed out of the competition in Group D when China hit a last-second three-pointer.
This team is tough, though.
Maybe that is the Smodis effect.
“Smodis is a really good player and important for our team,” Pipan said.
“Rasho, Jaka Lakovic and Smodis are the keys to our team and have been playing well.”
Most important, however, at least this was evident in the first three games, there has been a quality in the side that was not so apparent in years past.
“We are a real team thanks to the players,” Pipan said.
“We’ve played well, especially on the defense. We leave our best on the court. Our players have been putting their hearts on the court, so I’m really satisfied so far.”
The win against France on Wednesday was a classic show of grit and determination.
Nesterovic was ejected for a hard foul on Tony Parker in the third quarter, and Slovenia looked to be in danger of getting run out of the gym.
“We were in trouble,” Pipan admitted.
“Rasho went out, we were down 15 points, but we put things together and really did our best on the court, played very, very tough defense in the last quarter so we are very satisfied.”
It helped that Parker missed a free throw with two seconds remaining that would have tied the game and probably forced overtime.
In America, the month of March captivates an entire nation when the NCAA Tournament is staged. On the opening weekend, in particular, there are so many enthralling encounters between small schools and big universities and occasionally, there are upsets.
The drama in the EuroBasket, especially on the first three days, is tough to beat for entertainment, though.
Slovenia weren’t the only team playing in close games.
In Seville, Portugal upset Latvia on the last day and Croatia beat world champions Spain.
Israel, who had to win the additional qualifying tournament, beat Serbia and knocked them out of the tournament.
“This is the European Championship, there are surprises,” Pipan said.
“But we haven’t looked to much at the other groups, just at our own team.”
Pipan is keeping his feet on the ground.
He believes his team has as good a chance as any one here to do well.
“We have to play three more games (in the qualifying round),” he said.
“I hope we don’t stop here and can reach the quarter-final.”

Rasho has had such faith in this group, and some have wondered why. So far it looks like he was right. I actually think that a few of the players NOT being there has ironically been a part of this. The roles are much more clear and there are not concerns about who gets how many minutes.

Yeah-- the game was not on on the TV in the hotel, and so the players were huddled around a lap top watching the really slow play by play and talking on their cell phones, trying to get updates. But Rasho was lying on the bed reading a book. Figured there was nothing he could do about it.

Which player do we miss in our team?
Čapin - went down with injury
Bečirovič - have to cure his knees
Nachbar and/or Milič - we could really use another 3 (preferably Boki)
Does anybody miss Udrih, Brezec, Vujačič, Joksimovič?
Id pick Nachbar, Sani and Beno.
I`d rather have Capin than Beno right now.
