Quite a two weeks-- it has been enjoyable and heartwrenching. This team has made me so proud- of course, especially Rasho. I know that Slovenia came in 7th so it won't happen, but he deserves to be on the all-tournament team. I truly wish that every Rasho hater on this board could have seen him play in this tournament. It is hard becasue they were so close to the semi-finals, but they held on and got this last spot for next summer.
Congrats to all the Slovenians fans-- the best basketball fans in the world!
I'm so glad I watched the game!
BTW, it was Farchaud (sp?) who "hit" Smodis in the face after Pietrus made a flagrant.

There are not words to express how absolutely delighted that makes me.
Wow- what a tournament!
Wow, last quarter was 37:17, I wonder how many points Lakovic scored in the 4th.
Hoppefully we can keep the same team, just have a healthy Capin, and add Nachbar. I would also add Sani, but it could be risky to team chemistry...

Rasho said when this four year cycle began that if the players of his "age" could not get the team to all these places, that it was time to step aside and let the younger guys play. It wasn't like an attitude that he would not spend his time on it but more that they had had their chance to accomplish these goals and others should step in if they could not. First was to get to Eurobasket 2005 and qualify for Worlds- then to Worlds 2006 and get past the qualifying round- then to Eurobasket 2007 and at least get to the pre-Olympic qualifier- and next summer to the Olympics. 3 down- 1 to go.

SLovenia drained seven three-pointers during a 24-6 run to start the fourth quarter in knocking off France 88-74 to clinch seventh place at the 2007 EuroBasket as well as a berth in next summer's pre-Olympic tournament.
Jaka Lakovic hit three long bombs in the big stretch on his way to 26 points, six rebounds and seven assists.
Uros Slokar struck twice from long distance and converted a three-pointer in the spurt as part of his 13-point showing and Radoslav Nesterovic added 19 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots...

Agreed.
In the end i am proud of them for fighting with heart and passion unlike some of the old teams in past years.
They overachieved considering what problems they had with people not playing and Capin getting injured. (Jaka must be physically drained....)
I am also very excited for the future.
In a few years a core of Dragic, Klobucar, Vidmar, Slokar, Lorbek.... they should be good with some other talent around them.
Dragic, Klobucar and Vidmar also have possible NBA potential. (especially Dragic)

Rasho disagrees (http://sportal.siol.net/default.asp?article_id=10041050709170754560)
(Short summary: we don't need anybody else - just healthy Čapin)
Yeah I know he disagrees... But I still think we could use Nachbar a lot. As long as he would be happy coming off the bench, and not being the primary offensive option.

Well, Nachbar's strenght is on the offensive side (when his shots fall), without his shot he is just athletic BB-player with solid drive-in and mediocre defence.

I prefer Boki's average defense to Jagodnik's ill advised shots. Personally i would like to see Preldzic, but than Capin can't play. We'll see it's a long way till next year. A lot can happen in one year - ask Ozbolt.

Yes, Boki is far more attracive player as Jagodnik is, he also has better individual skills, to be honest, Nachbar was Pipan's first choice. However, influence on team chemistry and determination on the court is hard to measure.
Ill advised shots? Realy?
Please compare Nachbar (WC2006) (http://www.fiba.com/pages/eng/fe/06_wcm/teamPlay/play/p/competitioncode//eventid/3507/langlc/en/playernumber/21215/roundid/3507/season//fe_teamPlay_playStat.html) vs. Jagodnik (EC2007) (http://www.eurobasket2007.org/en/cid_BqypGFJPHy-Nw4lwIAq,v3.teamID_2154.compID_qMRZdYCZI6EoANOrUf9 le2.season_2007.roundID_5169.playerID_13522.html)
Not so much difference, especially considering Boki's offensive preferences. Jagodnik was our 4th to 5th offensive option, Boki was our 1st to 3rd.
And I will take Jagodnik's clutch 3-pointer (France, 4Q) any given day against Boki's poor performaces in decisive games (Puerto Rico, China). Playing well against games against Senegal and/or USA doesn't mean much to me!
Well I'd keep Jagodnik in the starting 5 and bring Boki off the bench. But like I said, he would have to understand that he isn't the first option when he's in. I think he wouldn't be such a big chemistry problem. And I would rather have him in our team than Cebular. :lol
Do I understand you right?
You are making fun of a certain player, who has been ready to work hard and sweat during off-season, knowing that his playing time is limited to few minutes in already decided games. That kind of player deserves respect!
What are you, fan or hater?
Hm huh? Is this directed at me? Sure he deserves respect for showing up and all, like every other member of the team, whether he played or not. I didn't think I was saying otherwise? But you're delusional if you somehow think Cebular is a better choice than Nachbar, despite not playing this year. Nothing against Cebular, but I'd definitely go with Boki now. In a few years though, who knows.
Ah, maybe you're thinking of my :lol at the end? I really don't know what I was thinking at the time, but for sure I wasn't mocking Cebular or something. I'd still take Boki though, I don't think I'd change my mind on that.

They made it to the pre-Olympic qualifier tournament- the plan is still to play while they have a chance at getting to the Olympics.
I don't blame him for feeling like the ones who CHOSE not to play are not needed. All the other NBA players made that choice- none were injured- all have contracts.

Another top performer, and somewhat of a surprise, was Rasho Nesterovic, who helped engineer a seventh-place finish by upstart Slovenia.
Gherardini said the veteran centre was consistent in all phases of the game throughout the event, looked fit and told him he is extremely motivated to be part of the mix in Toronto for this coming season.
Nesterovic was 14th in scoring at 11.9 points a game, fourth in field-goal percentage at 50.5 per cent, third in offensive rebounds with 2.6 and fifth overall in rebounding with 7.6 a game, including 19 points and eight rebounds in a must-win game against France that earned his team a spot in FIBA's wild-card play-in next summer.
"He looks great, he's in great shape," Gherardini said. "He just has to make sure he doesn't eat too many [sweets] between now and training camp."

I like the idea of keeping Pipan.
The team has momentum going. No sense in disrupting that by bringing in a new head coach.
Keep the same coach and the same team captian. :)
