Kobe's like OJ, if OJ could still ball. It's more the spectacle, the curiosity, that draws people in.

It's surprising to me that nobody has expressed genuine concern for his mental well-being. He sounds like he's cracking up to me. I expect him to do something kooky some time soon.

I was just thinking about that this morning. Kobe has always been very level-headed and stable in his manner (ignoring the alleged rape case), behavior and interviews.
In the past few months, he is starting to sound like he's losing it. Either he got fed up and he just can't handle it, or he might be cracking mentally. I'm not saying this as a joke. But the guy isn't Dennis Rodman or Ron Artest ... these interviews, changing his mind daily about wanting to be traded, etc. - it's all very odd coming from Kobe.

Kobe had it all. Basketball superstardom, beautiful wife, championships, the unanimous "Next", 8 figure annual endorsement deals, etc...He could've spent 5 more seasons or so playing with one of the greatest centers of all time, gradually taking over as the top dog on the team and then been in a nice spot to recruit guys to come to LA with a fair amount of cap room after Shaq hung it up.
Now when it seemed like he had somehow managed to rehab his career and image...

I do think he started panicking around the Western Conference Semi-Finals.
It's not that far-fetched to believe he's having an anxiety attack thinking about his future.
While he was making phone calls to various radio stations in a capricious manner, he also blogged three days in a row about his frustration.. And then continued to update his page, only to later take them down according to the reports. Not very wise, and careful behavior for a famous person, he's giving them too much fodder with his words, that he normally wouldn't do in past controversies. (you know the ones--including Shaq's smack talk)
and the fact that he's putting up vids of himself doing his early morning workouts? and posting fan support comments on his latest blog?
I always remembered him being pretty reclusive during the offseason in terms of handling media's typical criticism.
Now the pressure's finally gotten to him, where he's in need of constant reassurance and immediate outlets.
He's definitely slipping.

I think Kobe just knows what he has to do to get out of LA. He hasn't changed his mind daily about wanting to be traded...he has stood firm on that. He is the ultimate competitor...he wants to win. If LA is just going to surround him with scrubs after he has already won 3 titles and in his prime, I don't blame him for doing everything he can to make sure he is traded. I'd take Kobe on my team any day of the week.

uhm just what he was told to expect when Shaq left....they would get the necessary pieces to compete for championships in the coming years...it never happened...to me it's like your boss telling you he is going to give you a huge raise very soon, but 5 years later you're making the same.

The dude is in his prime, knows he can't wait another 3/4 years to see what happens, and he's the ultimate competitor. He just wants to be on a position to compete. Unfortunately for him, the Lakers management is awful. If Kevin McHale is the worst GM in the league, then Mitch Cupcake is probably a close second.

Nah, it's more like telling the boss to fire the other guy because you can do his work in addition to yours and then later bitching about the increased workload and castigating the boss for not hiring enough staff.

I've been thinking that since this whole train wreck began... He goes on a radio show, rants, then changes his mind, talks on more radio shows, then changes his mind back and forth. Dude is not stable.
And this actually isn't new either. Remember when he and Reggie Miller got in a fight back in 2002?
http://espn.go.com/nba/columns/ratto_ray/1345264.html
What made this a perfectly ugly moment, the kind that keeps us paying attention for the next game the two men play, was this segment of Miller's statement of explanation two days later:
"Kobe has other issues he has to deal with. This had nothing to do with me or the basketball game played on Friday evening."
Now THERE'S a brainful.
....
Miller has used the vaguest form of scattershot innuendo to suggest that Bryant is somehow haunted by some undetermined life detail that explains his behavior.
Makes you wonder what that could be. Unrequited love? Extremely requited love? Cannibalism? Stalkers? Persistent dreams of Joey Crawford in a gingham dress? Telemarketers?

So rather than look inward he's firing outward, because the truth its too much for him to handle.

Getting rid of one of the best centers of all time still basically in his prime and getting back one good player in Odom and a bunch of scrubs was never going to work right away. Kobe was a fool to think yeah they will dump Shaq i will resign and we will be back in the finals again real soon.

So if you hate someone that means you have no life. Well i guess about a million Suns fans out there have no lives since they have been cursing the Spurs to hell since they got bounced.

I don't remember any time where Kobe has responded particularly well to adversity. He takes it personally if someone steals the ball from him or blocks his shot; that's why he throws those elbows. He gets more calls than anyone in the league, but is still one of the biggest whiners. He throws everyone else under the bus whenever something goes wrong, like when he told the cops that Shaq cheats on his wife. Why would he wait two years to suddenly lose his mind and start blaming Buss for trading Shaq? Kobe was a free agent; all he had to do was say "Don't trade Shaq or I'm going to the Clippers."
That said, it is fucking laughable that the Lakers keep trying to trade for talent but don't want to trade their center because he might be a star after Kobe retires.

If Kobe TRULY wanted to force the hand that feeds him into trading him, he would have had the judgement to do it behind closed doors; now the Lakers can't get full value, nor are they in the bargaining position, thanks to Kobe being a crybaby for that one week -- and if you listened to the interviews. He DID change his mind time and time again, and sounded like a girl on her period. He was pouting. Standing firm is not saying one thing, then taking it back the next day.
Anyway, though there's no doubt LA's GM didn't make the slickest of moves, Kobe was a fool, and I take this guy's words with a grain of salt. It's never 100 percent the other guy. Kobe has a history of making excuses, and never taking the blame for anything, only everyone else.
