The vinyl thread was fun, so I thought we could do this.

I've got lots, a few to start:

Springsteen: Born In The USA and Tunnel Of Love Tours

Rod Stewart and Faces (with Ron Wood) 1974

U2: Joshua Tree

Tom Petty: saw him dozens of times, all but one show were great

Aerosmith: saw them lots also, they usually put on a good show, the tour with Guns N Roses was great

Paul Simon: Graceland (what a great show that was)

Peter Frampton: Tour he recorded "Comes Alive" on

A few others that stand out: Neil Young, Elton John, Allman Brothers and Gregg Allman solo, Pink Floyd, Carlos Santana, The Eagles...

Anyone got some?

I envy you.

It gets worse.

I was in the record business in Southern California for years.
Most of the shows I went to were with Record Label tickets (free) and the best seats in the house.

And usually backstage for the "Meet and Greet."

(I told you it got worse!)

Sting was fantastic on his solo "Dream of the Blue Turtles" tour.

Did I scare you all away? :lol

I'm sorry. It was another lifetime ago. I was in my 20's, new to California and I got incredibly lucky in landing a great job. :spin

I had the time of my life for 10 years, then moved on to kids and all the joy that comes with them.

I had fun talking vinyl and it got me remembering those concert days.

Anyone else got concerts they loved?

It goes to prove that if you go after what you love you can make it happen.

I loved music. I got a part time job in a record store in college and it grew from that.

NIN at smirnoff in Dallas last June was amazing

Ministry in Ft Worth May 06was the loudest concert I've ever been too, too much low end but great show

KMFDM at Emo's October 06 was fun, got to meet Sascha.

I went to an Aerosmith concert at Retama Park about seven years ago, back when they had the hit "Pink".

Was that the same concert you went to?

Man, I've been to so many concerts. One of my favorites was in Austin's Austin Music Hall where I saw Ozzy...just Ozzy. No opening act. It was his first concert back from "retirement". It was a surprise show because I remember they advertised it on a Sunday...tickets went on sale that Monday and the show was that Saturday.

It was a great show.

I'd give my sould to have lived y'alls life.

I really loved it.

I was a rock n roll groupie from the time I turned 12 and my brother gave me his old turntable and a handful of albums.
People who knew me then weren't surprised at what I ended up doing for a living.

Those were the days before scanners on cash registers so all the reporting to Billboard was done by people. I ran a chain of record stores and reported to Billboard. The Record Labels were very generous to Billboard reporters.

It doesn't work like that anymore but it was a blast while it lasted.
My record collection grew, and I saw/met a lot of musicians, and I gathered lots of cool promotional gadgets. A Peter Gabriel Sledgehammer. A Michael Jackson "Bad" leather tour jacket, a Springsteen "Born In The USA" denim jacket.

It was fun. Thanks for letting me wander down memory lane.

311 in 2001 at houston was pretty tight

mookie and i blazed one of the phattest blunts i've ever rolled in the parking garage and everyone stared at us condescendingly

alien ant farm was opening, they were playing Smooth Criminal when mookie and I found ourselves in the arena

so many fans were going everywhere, and we were so disoriented and stoned that we actually walked right past the security guards into the pit (we had like 2nd level seats), when we realized what we had done we got as close as possible and started pits with 16 yr old neocon kids.

311 played a solid 3 hours and played virtually every good song they've ever written, it was before evolver etc, so they played a few From Chaos and all the rest was straight up old school.

Pink Floyd in San Diego,1994...open stadium with a huge cloud hoving over the top. great show!
Dave Matthews Band in Selma, 2003...had 3rd row from the stage. The guys really enjoy performing and it shows when you are up close like that.
My 1st concert was Brittany Fox, Lita Ford and Poison.
I have seen Metallica, Korn, Linkin Park, OzzyFest when Fear Factory was on that tour( got to be next to the stage behind the fence, and got the strangest looks from the crowd...Girl Fire Fighter in unifrom "enjoying" the show.),Iron Maiden when Fear Factory opened for the at Sneakers,Lenny Kravitz,Moody Blues.

It was at some small venue in downtown houston, that was like etched out the side of a bigger building, kinda looking like a mall.

No idea where it was though, I don't know Houston.

Yeah they played 3 hours, every good song you can imagine from music, grassroots, transistor, and soundsystem. It was such a long concert we were almost passing out from dehydration.

damn, I've been to so many concerts, thats one of my favorite pass times, probably been to at least 200 shows. Some big, some small

I would have to start off with Queensryche and their Rage for Order concert back in 86 at sunken gardens. I was just a teeny bopper back then but I was so in love with Geoff Tate and that show was just incredible.

I have to say Pantera back in 92-93 I think, at Rockwave. They had just really started to get big back then, that show was so damn awesome. Seen them at the Showcase in SA plus another 4 times.
KLF - (SA)
Judas Priest (Chicago)
Sade (SA)
Mercyful Fate (SA)- Don't break the oath, my all-time favorite heavy metal album. (Showcase, now its some bingo parlor I think)
Depeche Mode here in Vegas, I had never heard a louder crowd, it was crazy.
Slayer - I always have a great time at their shows.

I've seen all the way from Metallica to Al di Meola. Pet shop boys, lol. Thompson Twins, Duran Duran, Faster Pussycat, Bang Tango, Interpol, Ottmar Liebert, Soulfly, Damage Plan, Rob Zombie, Janes Addiction, StereoMC,
Billy Idol, Cinderella, Dream Theatre, Ratt, Ozzy, Black Sabaath, Ronnie James Dio, Marilyn Manson, Black Label Society, Thirty second to Mars(Free), Hatebreed, Fear Factory, Type O Negative, Frank Marino, Seven Dust, Sepultura, God smack ..............

+ many others I just forget, lol

ON EDIT: 311, Shabba Ranks(Reggae), Def Tones, Dimmu Borgir, Slipknot,StaticX, Super Joint Ritual, Danzig, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Dwight Yoakam, Cheap Trick, Ted Nugent, Mastadon,Kill Switch Engage, Metal Church.... Theres more but once again they escape me :toast

I went to the Austin show on that tour. Wasn't Zebrahead on the bill too or maybe that was the year before? Definitely one of the best shows I've ever seen.

Other great ones for me are:
The original G3 Tour: Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson
The Pixies
Black Crowes
Korn
Smashing Pumpkins
Norma Jean, Between the Buried and Me, and Misery Signals...on one bill
Bob Dylan at the Majestic Theater

Damn. I missed the Peter Frampton show. :cry

The Boss rocks!! Best Show ever I'd say.

I've never seen the Stones 'cause by the time they came around where I wanted to see them the ticket prices were ridiculous and I didn't have the $$. Between 1975 and 1986 I caught about every act that came my way but I was really big into music back then especially when it came to guitar work.

Frampton was amazing. We had 4th row center seats, it felt like he was playing just to us.

Then the album came out and it was the exact show! It was cool.

I saw the Springsteen USA tour twice, the first time we stood on the chairs the entire show, even when he slowed it down. He played almost 4 hours. It remains one of my all time favorite shows.

Saw Pink Floyd the last time they came through SA when they played the Dome. Had front row center (or I guess since it was Floyd, I should say centre) seats. Right the hell in front of David Gilmour. Absolutely the best show by any band not named Rush I've ever been to. Looking back at the crowd and seeing 52,000+ peeps who all wish they had your seat was breathtaking. And Nick Mason's color (oops...colour) changing drumsticks were a trip also.

That and the 9 Rush shows I've been to (Aug. 12, #10...WOOHOO!!!).

I would have listed one of the hundreds of Reckless Kelly shows I've been to, but I don't count those as concerts. I consider that hanging with friends and having one hell of a good time.

Another really good show I saw was Guns 'N' Roses in Austin. It was right after the big tour with Metallica fiasco when they refused to play after James Hetfield got hurt (I think in Phoenix). They were getting trashed by the fans and media, so I guess they decided to show everyone they could still rock and they did. That show kicked ass! Brian May opened on his solo tour and he was incredible as well. During his final song after an extended solo, he kicked into the "Waynes World headbanging scene" part of Bohemian Rhapsody and the Erwin Center went NUTS.

And this just in, Slash can drink some Jack Daniels.

CuckingFunt

I've seen the B-52's several times, and they've been awesome every time.

The Pretenders were good, Brian Setzer Orchestra was great, Save Ferris for $7.00 at the county fair was surprisingly good. Cake was good. But I think the best concert I've ever been to was, shockingly, Harry Connick, Jr. in 1996 when he was touring with his funk band. Saw them at the Warfield in San Francisco and he was just amazing -- great atmosphere, great energy, great set and he played every single instrument on the stage throughout the course of the show.

As for concerts I've missed... could have seen Southern Culture on the Skids a few years ago for a $10.00 cover, but none of my friends had heard of them and didn't want to go with me. Also missed Tom Jones in Vegas because the friends I was with thought it would be too dorky. It would have, of course, but that's kind of the point of seeing Tom Jones in Vegas.

Bernie Worrel puts on one hell of a show. the last time i saw him will calhoun (from Living Colour) was drumming for him, that was a treat. the first time i saw him, the place was nearly empty, but he pulled people in off the street steadily over 2 hours, and it was packed at the end. the man is a god and p-funk would have been a blip on the radar without him. i am still reeling from the two times i saw buckethead last year - both shows went over 2.5 hours.

I wore a Dallas Cowboys hat and we squeezed up in front of the mosh pit, stage left. Dimebag Darrell (RIP) looked at me, pointed at his head, pointed at me, and held up a number one sign, which I took to mean he liked my Cowboys hat. Then he flipped a pick in my direction, but my shithead friend Derek caught it and to this day refuses to give it to me. Cocksucker.

I've only ever been to six concerts (three different artists) in my 19 years. Sad, no?

I've seen Weird Al three times (Glen Ellyn, Rockford, and Chicago), Foreigner twice (One down in McHenry county, the other at Eastern Illinois University), and Queen+Paul Rodgers at Allstate Arena....I think the Queen+PR one was my favorite. I couldn't talk because I'd screamed myself hoarse.

Oh, almost forgot, I did see the Chicagoland Pops Orchestra playing music from Final Fantasy. That's up there with the Queen+PR, what with screaming myself hoarse.

i saw rahzel open for mix master mike in 2000 or 2001. i also saw almost all of the living legends open up for the alkaholiks - both great shows. mix master mike was incredible - he had 2 crates of records, and just plowed through them.

dude where did you see that at?

I was pretty drunk...did we see y'all there? I know we ran into someone from TR. For some reason I remember it being Alan Johanningmeier. I spent most of my relationship (if you could call it that) with Cindy blasted out of my gourd.

Oh, I'd have wanted to see that. The first Foreigner concert I went to (The one not at EIU) had Bad Company as the opening act...I *think* PR was with them, but I can't remember. I was too busy nerding it up with some people.

Body Count in Hawaii '94 I think

The above mentioned shows had some of the most intense pits I personally have ever been in.

I was at that show. I forgot Prong was there too. I loved it when Phil came out and played those Brazillian bongo drums with Sepultura. That pit was probably the largest I have ever been in.

Was this on the "Far Beyond Driven" tour?
I caught that same bill out here at Irvine Meadows (now Verizon Wireless Amphitheater) the same day that the World Cup ended. Pantera and Sepultura went to the Championship game that day when Brazil beat Italy at the Rose Bowl, and boy, those Sepultura boys were in FULL celebration mode at the gig that night; wearing Brazlilian unis and flags and all of that stuff.

Damn, I wouldn't even know where to begin on a topic like this. First off, I have to give a big thanks to a roommate I had for about 5 plus years. He was a huge concert guy and really got me into seeing bands live, plus he had connections to get good tickets whenever a band was playing in central Texas (Austin, SA, Houston).

But as far as amazing shows a few definitely stand out:

1. Stevie Ray Vaughn, I think of him as a God and when I saw him for the first time at Aquafest in Austin I was completely blown away. I never knew someone could play the guitar with that much passion, fury and joy at the same time.

2. Iron Maiden, saw every tour they've done beginning with Powerslave. Would have to say the show at the Alamodome where Anthrax opened was the best.

3. First row for AC/DC at the Erwin Center in Austin. I should have worn fucking earplugs!

4. Smashing Pumpkins at Southpark Meadows in Austin (it's now a huge shopping center). I don't know if it was the mushrooms or what, but damn that was a fun show.

5. Metallica, also at Southpark Meadows. No mushrooms, just some kind bud and an amazing performance. Master of Puppets live, need I say more?

6. Beastie Boys, opening for fucking Run DMC in high school. I loved the Beastie Boys, they had just released liscened to Ill, but getting to see Run DMC really got me more into rap/hip hop.

7. The Roots, on 6th street. Incredible blend of lyrical skill and live instruments.

8. Ian Moore opening for Eric Johnson, he completely blew him off the stage. At the time closest I've seen to matching SRV.

9. Pantera at the Back Room in Austin. Last minute thing, they decided to play a small venue and I got there early enough to get in. Pantera in a VERY small venue? Fucking incredible.

10. Willile Nelson. Took the wife to see him at Stubbs in Austin, guy still puts on a hell of a performance, played for over 2 hours. Great show.

Yes it was. I had never even heard of Sepultura and couldn't understand why the hell they were top billed over Prong, until I heard them play. Holy crap those Brazillian boys kicked ass. I never cared for them after the split though. Somehow it wasn't the same.

I wish that I have gone to more concerts.

My most fun concert was a Jimmy Buffett concert.

The most fabulous concerts that I have been to, musically speaking,
are a Rush concert, a Yes! concert.

The most drug-induced concert I've ever been to was when they had the South Texas Jam out at verizon wireless in SA. Deep Purple, Lynard Skynard (the tribute band), Ted Nugent, and a few others. I drank so much and had so much second hand mary jane that I was dazed and confused for a week after that concert.
