Sooo, I think I have asked this before (last season) but cant remember the details.
Why have a trade deadline when in fact, its no deadline at all?
How the hell does this work?

A player has to clear waivers after the trade deadline I do believe.

The actual trading deadline is the end of this month.
The media just typically annoints the July 31st deadline (the non-waiver deadline) as the trading deadline because a) any deal can be made and b) they don't want to have to explain the waiver rules to you.
The Bosox were able to move Pena because none of the crappy teams wanted him enough to claim him on waivers.

In three games with the Nationals, Pena is 5-for-11 (.455) with a double, two homers and three RBIs.
If Pena had that kind of production with my Sox, he would not have been traded....

Boston has never been a place where players say that they have too much pressure to perform...idiot, you say things just to hear the sound of your voice, I think.
That is New York, FYI

I think your a fucking asshole.
BUt it doesnt make boston any less of a shit hole, and it doesnt make any less true.
Renteria goes to Boston hits below 300, gets about what 20 25 errors.
Yeah, Im sure he did that cause hes a stiff, ORRRRRRR, it could be, that theres that knd of pressure in boston.
Nah.....

Actually, while the errors were almost tripled, Renteria's offense in Boston was almost identical to his last year in STL.

it evened out at the end of the year, but he started in a HORRIBLE slump IIRC, and he was horribly booed every time he made one.
BFIB my ass.

He did have an awful awful April that year.
But he's always been a bit up and down offensive player - he even had a sub .700 OPS season in STL in what should have been one of his prime seasons (2001).

01 i believe was the year where he was in ahuge slump, and there were lots of trade rumors surrounding him.

The really hilarious one was that Red Sox fans were extremely disappointed with Alex Gonzalez at SS last year for.....
putting up the same kind of numbers that he has his entire career.
(In fact, it was slightly better than his career average year and each of his last 2 years with the Fish - even with less HRs)

ut red sox fans dont put any pressure on the players, neither does the media :rolleyes
:lol
I still can't believe he denies that. Unreal.

Red Sox Nation definitely adds to a player's expectations, but it's unreasonable to say that they're the only explanation for a player's poor performance.
