Troubled star's dice with August 28, 2007 12:00am
HOLLYWOOD star Owen Wilson has reportedly been rushed to hospital after trying to commit suicide at his Santa Monica home.
Wilson was found by his brother, Andrew, who called paramedics.
Sources said the A-list actor had slashed his wrists and was found with a nearly empty bottle of pills next to him.
Police and an ambulance responded to a 911 call from Owen's house about noon on Sunday and witnesses claim his wrist was bandaged at the hospital.
Wilson, who starred in a string of Hollywood comedy hits including Zoolander, was last night reported to be in a stable condition.
Speculation has been rife about Wilson's private life since he split with rising star Kate Hudson a couple of months ago.
The couple fell in love when in Melbourne just over a year ago to promote their movie You, Me and Dupree.
They were seen riding along the St Kilda foreshore and eating at Caffe e Cucina, in Chapel St and St Kilda's Arrivederci, among other top restaurants.
They were back in Australia in April when Hudson filmed Fool's Gold in Queensland.
Their relationship was strained when Hudson's ex, Chris Robinson, visited her on the Gold Coast with their three-year-old son Ryder.
By June 5, Wilson and Hudson had reportedly split.
Hudson, daughter of Hollywood legend Goldie Hawn, then began dating American MTV star Dax Shepard.
Wilson got his big break in the 2000 comedy action hit Shanghai Noon, starring opposite martial arts star Jackie Chan.
He later co-starred with good friends Ben Stiller and Will Ferrell in the 2001 offbeat comedy Zoolander.
He got his dramatic break starring with Gene Hackman in the 2001 action film, Behind Enemy Lines.
The next year he was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on the screenplay of The Royal Tenenbaums.
Wilson returned to making "buddy comedies" in 2002 with the release of I Spy, in which he co-starred with Eddie Murphy.
He paired with Chan in the 2003 hit Shanghai Knights, then another turn with Stiller in Starsky & Hutch.
His biggest film success came in 2005, when he teamed with comedian Vince Vaughn in the smash hit Wedding Crashers, which grossed more than $200 million in the US.
Last year, Wilson provided the voice for "Lightning McQueen" in the Disney/Pixar hit, Cars.
He later played a supporting role, again with Stiller, in the hit, Night at the Museum.
Wilson has four movies in his schedule for 2008.
US entertainment media went into overdrive after Wilson was taken to hospital.
The editor-in-chief of the National Enquirer said Wilson had transferred from St Johns to another LA hospital, where he was accompanied by his brothers Andrew and Luke, both actors.
Entertainment news website TMZ.com said it had confirmed Wilson had been taken to hospital, but could not confirm his condition.
People magazine reported the actor's parents also visited him at the hospital.

Celebrity is a thing I would never want. You have no clue how shitty it is to never have a private moment and to have all of these crazy ass people you never met coming up to you all of the time never leaving you alone and pissing you off. Wilson in Good Condition, Hospital Says
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) - Owen Wilson was reported in good condition Monday, a day after he was taken from his home by ambulance, a hospital spokeswoman said.
"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," the 38-year-old actor said in a statement released through publicist Ina Treciokas.
No further comments were expected, she said.
Wilson was at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, said hospital spokeswoman Cynthia Harding. He was initially taken to St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica.
He "is here in good condition," Harding said.
It wasn't known why Wilson was hospitalized, but a neighbor said a police car, fire truck and ambulance were outside the actor's gated house around noon Sunday.
"These guys were kind of taking their time taking a stretcher out of the ambulance, then they went into the house," said neighbor Geoffry White, 61, who lives directly across the street.
Santa Monica Fire Battalion Chief Jose Torres said Monday the department responded to a call that involved Wilson. The chief wouldn't comment on Wilson's injuries or condition, citing federal privacy laws.
Wilson's screen credits include "Wedding Crashers" and "You, Me and Dupree." He was nominated for a screenwriting Oscar for 2001's "The Royal Tenenbaums."

I personally like this guy, he's made me laugh and I think he's one of the best comedic actors of this generation. I hope the guy starts laughing again....he deserves it for all the laugh's he's given out :tu The money and fame is a poor substitute for genuine laughter and feeling good.

That is incredibly stupid to say. Depression is not a "real" problem? Depression knows no social status and doesn't care about the balance in your bank account. It is completely indiscriminate in who it hits and is a very serious condition. If it ever hits you, I hope people are much more compassionate than you are being now.

Well that is the risk anyone is taking when going into show business I don't care if you are a singer, actor, model, or even an athlete when you are in the public eye you have to expect constant over the top attention whether it is from fans or psychos I would assume every known celeb in Hollywood has chose the pros over the cons otherwise they would and should not be showbiz
I guess I liked Owen Wilson I mean he wasn't really funny at least to me but he was in funny movies I kinda lost interest in him personally when he started fooling around with Kate Hudson correct me if I am wrong but didn't she commit adultery with him?

Hate this attitude, for the record.
Just because something may be a "cry for help" doesn't make it any less scary for his loved ones. Also, there's no telling whether or not he'd have been successful in his attempt had the paramedics not intervened.

whatever. ride your high horse all you want. i just think it's funny that i'm supposed to give a shit that some millionaire hollywood playboy is taking a fall. boo fucking hoo. maybe i'm not being compassionate but this shit happens all the time. okay, depression is a serious issue. it hits everyone. i guess i just tend to feel less sorry for the guy who gets it when his problems are how he's going to spend his millions or what his latest role is gonna be. i think i'd trade my problems for his 8 days a week.

Impossible to say without knowing his problems.
However, to jump into the speculation pool, I'd be willing to guess that there aren't many of us here who are in any way equipped to deal with the problems that someone like Owen Wilson has to face. The level of public scrutiny, not only in terms of reviews and criticisms but personal choices as well, is just insane. I know that I, personally, wouldn't last three weeks with that even if I were a billionaire.

Not necessarily a sure thing. I once had a patient who did the gun in the mouth thing and only blew off his head from nose down; not a pretty way to live the rest of your life. So what if it was a feeble cry for help or attention at that point.

But that's part and parcel of being a famous actor, actress, musician, etc...it's hard to feel that much sympathy for someone pulling down 7 or 8 figures an album or movie because they don't get as much alone time as before.
Depression is another issue altogether and one that does warrant sympathy for an individual driven to attempt suicide due to it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't he reading "Don't Jump" the anti-suicide book in Wedding Crashers?
Good point You are exactly right. Now I'm wondering what he thought about that part of the script, or more generally, the entire SECTION of the movie where his character was in a deep depression. I wonder if how it felt for him to have to act that, when in reality, he may very well have been in that state at that time. I know we'll never get a true answer, only speculation, but it is something that will bug me.
FYI- There are a hundred different jokes to make about this situation regarding the "Wedding Crashers" scene, I know, but all of them are not funny and very inappropriate, especially at this time.

But in the interest of time, all you need is one reason why he should be the most despised man in Hollywood: Scarlett was gonna get nekkid in The Island, but Bay said no, it was not needed, it would distract from his cinematic vision.

I agree with everything here except for the part about The Rock, Bad Boys, Transformers being good movies, and also the part where it's implied that other directors could possibly have created stinkers as bad as exploiting one of the greatest tragedies this country has ever had and turning it into a three hour shitfest with a love triangle.

Michael Bay isn't even a director. He just gets a good SFX director and tells him "I want shit to blow up. A LOT of shit. Blowing up. Nonstop explosions. Make it happen."
His filmography could easily be renamed -
Shit Blowing Up On Alcatraz
Shit Blowing Up While Martin Lawrence Makes Jokes
Shit Blowing Up On Pearl Harbor With A Love Triangle
Shit Blowing Up While Martin Lawrence Makes Jokes Part 2
Shit Blowing Up While Scarlett Johannson Begs To Show Her Tits But Is Denied
Shit Blowing Up With Big Ass Robots

That is incredibly stupid to say. Depression is not a "real" problem? Depression knows no social status and doesn't care about the balance in your bank account. It is completely indiscriminate in who it hits and is a very serious condition. If it ever hits you, I hope people are much more compassionate than you are being now.
"Oh look at me, Im rich, funny, a celebrity, can get virtually any woman I want. MY LIFE SUCKS, to hell with it all!!!"

The way you follow me into threads to try and weakly insult me, I don't think I am the one who needs to get over me, I think YOU are the one who needs to get over me. I rejected you for a date, get over it.
I stand by what I said. All the money in the world doesn't make depression any easier to handle or get past. It astounds me how many people on this forum hate on people because of their wealth.

Yup. that money is a (permenant) cure for depression is a misconception by uneducated people who don't know about depression, which makes their argument invalid.

Rejected me for a date :lmao Fucking please! Quit trying to twist a joke to make yourself sound desirable. You are nothing of the sort. Oh, and Im not following you around. You are not anything special, really. I just can't help but reply to your ignorant fucking posts.
Oh, and I don't hate people because of their wealth. I loved Owen Wilson's movies, but trying to kill himself because Kate Hudson dumped him is the stupidest fucking thing, much like most of your posts.

Yes, he seems to be obsessed about not being obsessed with his obsession.
