Is http://google.com (and thus, gmail) down for everyone?

Or is something wrong with my internet connection?

Thanks.

I'd imagine I have the same provider as many people here (TimeWarner/Roadrunner) that's why I asked here.

if you go to internet options and go to setup connection
reset up your internet connection
choice the manual connection
if that does not work then hit f5
if that does not work go to internet options again and go to connections and go to lan connection and check mark automatically detect settings
I read it is suppose to work better with that check and without it checked

This is just me rambling here, but you might want to see if you can use a mail program and work through Gmail that way.

I use Thunderbird and can send/receive e-mails that way (plus it offers an offline backup of my e-mail).

I really like gmail
you can use a email client to read your email from there
and you can forward alot of email there
their spam program rocks to

and you can go to different internet connections using your email client with gmail and you do not need to change your smpt settings

CubanMustGo
10-12-2007, 10:20 AM
As a workaround you could try accessing gmail through an anonymous proxy server such as

http://proxify.com/

If the problem's somewhere in the TW cloud, this might let you get around it temporarily.

weird

using xp or vista you could do a system restore and take it back in time to yesterday
You are not suppose to lose any data

Unless something has gotten into your machine and done something like put a bogus entry in the hosts file for google.com; you might want to try doing this"

Start -> Run -> Cmd (brings up a DOS prompt) -> ping google.com

response should be something like

"Pinging google.com [64.233.187.xxx]"

if the IP address is substantially different (doesn't begin with 64) then something may have hacked into your machine

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll wait it out and see what happens. I'm guessing it might fix itself soon.

This has happened before but with WOAI.com. Sometimes, I can't access that site (and only that site) for 3 or 4 days at a time. But I can't really live without google, so this crap better clear up soon.

I guess you could also go to the univeristy or library if you got desperate enough
and you could forward your email to a differnet account

I did have an issue once with gmail and needed an email bad, so I used my cell phone, logged into gmail and forwarded it to a yahoo account I almost never use. Not sure why it worked on the cell phone and not my computer but an hour later both were working just fine.

Totally off topic, but ..

How sad is it that the only thing Rangers fans have to brag about is a meaningless regular season series "win" against a team that didn't make the postseason? It's even worse than Mav/Sun/Cav fan crowing about their regular season series performance against the Spurs. But when you're one of two teams in MLB to never win a playoff series of any kind, and the other hasn't been around for ten years, I guess you have to celebrate the smallest of accomplishments since there's nothing else to be happy about.

No, not particularly an Astros fan either, just amused that someone (not ATRAIN, I know) went to such great lengths to great a jpeg commemorating something so meaningless. $5 and that "championship" will get you a latte at Starbucks.

And Beer, yeah, Pavarotti is on the Google homepage.

Considering it's a sig bet that Melmart won and got ATRAIN a special sig to commemorate, it's not so sad at all when you take into account Houston-Dallas trash talk.

That whole thing was done in jest, it wasn't any serious smack talk about who was better. Just comical banter and a sig bet.

It's a fucking joke. As baseball fans, ATRAIN and I both understand the futility and generall all-around suckiness of our teams and we are laughing at ourselves. What else are we supposed to do, cry? It's a joke.

Kori, I'm also on TWC-SA/RR. Past few days I've had weird problems where I can't get gmail to properly load through firefox (endless loops when I try to enter a password) but works fine in IE or IE-tab.

Working fine right now, however.
