View Full Version : Spurs vs. Heat - Nov. 7 Game Blog

To say the Heat are struggling would be an understatement. They are 0-3 this season after going 0-8 in the preseason. If you count the fact that they were swept in the playoffs last year and lost their regular season finale, the Heat have lost 16 games in a row.
While the Heat may be pretty bad, the Spurs usually aren't the greatest in back-to-back situations. The Spurs should be okay tonight but the Heat can't lose forever . . .

They better bounce back hard. No excuses for losing to a team playing this poorly.

I don't like a game like tonight's. The Heat may be 0-3 but their last two losses have been close. They defend and rebound well enough to stay in any game. No Wade, but they still have enough talent to win. I'd like to see the Spurs show up with a little aggression after last night's loss, but that's usually asking for too much for a Spurs team in November.

Hopefully the Spurs can get some rebounds tonight.
Shaq's gonna feel TD's redemption game tonight!

I'd like to see them show the effort.
I can take a loss if they leave it all on the floor.
Hustle. Energy. Determination.
A will to win.
And just a personal wish...I'd like to see Duncan be a monster.
Early season, back to back, whatever...This is his team and after last night he needs to show up tonight and give it all he's got.
Do what he does so well. Lead by example.

Spurs were awful last night, they will bounce back well tonight, i don't expect this to be much of a game come 4th qtr.
Spurs by 15 or more.
What's up with the two back-to-backs?
Spurs win big.

Elson is one of those guys who plays well until he realizes he's playing well. Then he gets all self conscious and starts forcing stuff.

Positive news on the rebounds - probably keeping them in the game with their poor shooting. I am hoping they'll adjust to the defense (in some way other than continuing to jack up bad shots). But then, this is where the early season hurts them. They aren't as crisp with the plays and ball movement to find the chinks in defense as they will be in April.

Positive news on the rebounds - probably keeping them in the game with their poor shooting. I am hoping they'll adjust to the defense (in some way other than continuing to jack up bad shots). But then, this is where the early season hurts them. They aren't as crisp with the plays and ball movement to find the chinks in defense as they will be in April.
there just isn't much ball movement at all. everyone has a green light.

The Heat are playing well. They have no business being in this game without Wade. Lets see if they can keep it up.

Because they keep closing him out. Contested threes don't go in much.
Yes and no. He's had at least two good looks, where he had time and space to shoot and took the ball inside instead. He's been doing it all season.

I agree. Their defense has really taken me by surprise.

We're watching Ghost Hunters, the recap of Halloween's live investigation, and they have an ECW star that joined them for cross promotional purposes. He was explaining this shadow he saw and how weird it was, and then felt something touch him and he up and RAN. That was awesomely funny.

I hope the future Mrs. SRJ knows and likes basketball. It would be nice to be with a woman that enjoys basketball. All of my ex-GFs hated it and didn't want me watching.
Of course, their anti-basketball stance was the least of their problems.

One of my 'requirements' for a future husband about a year before I met SFIE was that he be a Spurs fan (or at least not actively opposed to me being a fan). It's a big part of our relationship.
If you find someone who is at least open to learning about your interests, it's a good thing.

man...what happened to Gino? I'm listening to the radio and the crowd is angry
Shaq extended his arm jammed Manus face with his arm/elbow as GNob took it to the rack. Didnt jam him hard tho.
Old school hard foul but expected (old school expected) if you are taking the ball to the rack and the defending Center is right under it.
That and Shaq is unable to leave the ground.
Bruce before half agree, catch and shoot what was that Globetrotter crap?

SECOND QUARTER
Tony Parker had 12 points in the first half as the Spurs took a 39-38 halftime lead over the Miami Heat on Wednesday at the AT&T Center.
Brent Barry hit a 3-pointer early in the second quarter, but the Spurs' offense went cold after that. They made only one basket over the next five minutes.
Tim Duncan, Francisco Elson and Parker each had a basket in the last 3:34 of the half. The Heat looked effective in their defensive effort to keep the Spurs out of the lane in the second quarter.
FIRST QUARTER
Tony Parker got on a roll in the middle of the first quarter to guide the Spurs to a 23-21 lead over the Miami Heat at the end of the period on Wednesday at the AT&T Center.
The Spurs started clicking on offense when Parker started attacking the basket. His first points came on a driving basket with 8:39 left in the first quarter after the Heat had grabbed a 7-2 lead. Parker added two more driving baskets at the 7:23 mark and 6:01 mark.
Parker hit a 3-pointer that beat the shot clock buzzer and put the Spurs in front 15-13 with 5:18 left in the first quarter.
Manu Ginobili entered the game with 6:48 left in the quarter and made back-to-back baskets a few minutes later. He scored on a fast break off a pass from Parker, then hit a 3-pointer to put the Spurs in front 20-13.
Even though you know how big Shaquille O'Neal is, it's always interesting to see how he compares to a player you see more often. Spurs starter Fabricio Oberto is listed at 6-foot-10, 245 pounds. He looks really small while defending O'Neal.
O'Neal was effective using his size to draw fouls early. Oberto was called for his second foul with 8:22 left in the first quarter and was replaced by Francisco Elson. Tim Duncan was called for a shooting foul on O'Neal at the 7:57 mark. Duncan picked up his second foul at the 7:03 mark.
Oberto, Francisco Elson, Duncan and Matt Bonner all took turns defending O'Neal in the first quarter. Bonner is probably one of the few people who will both play defense on O'Neal and shoot 3-pointers -- Bonner hit a long ball for the Spurs' final points of the first quarter. O'Neal scored only three points in the first quarter and Duncan had two.
