shit...I have yet to meet someone with a 360 that hasn't had issues with the rings of death or other issues with crashing.

Love the Call of Duty series on Xbox360

Went home after buying COD4 last night, popped it in the console.

I got the dreaded 3 Rings of Microsoft Xbox360 Death.

Going to be a month until I get it back.

F'n Microsoft..... :pctoss :pctoss :pctoss

Fucking Microsoft makes me mad as fuck. I had a great, second generation X360, everything was working perfectly except for my disc tray. All that needed to be done was to have a belt replaced in the drive; I could have done it myself in a few minutes, but I didn't want to void the warranty just in case I got the three ring in the next 2 years.

Guess what, fuckers send me a refurb unit. The fans are way louder, which tells me the CPU must be running way hotter than in my freaking prev unit. I can't believe it. Fuck you Microsoft.

Before you do that lets give it a good flush and install XP and take it to a high school like Burbank or Jefferson and give it to a student that is doing well in school but has a single parent? I gave away 2 PC's and two notebooks in 2004-2005 and it was a great feeling to know you helped someone get ahead in life. I even get e mails and thank you cards from two the the students every year one student is still in collage in California.

Probably jinxing myself but I have 2 360s (one for playing games and one for XNA dev) and I've never had an issue with either one. Luck of the draw I guess.

Damn, I was just planning on getting a 360 to Play COD4 and Assassins Creed.
Just because its way cheaper than a PS3. Now I dont know what to do. I thought that RROD ordeal was a thing of the past

Newer ones shouldn't be a problem, make sure you look for the ones with HDMI. I've had an elite since they came out and it gets no hotter than my original XBox.

launch unit, no probs, even if i do get the red lights, i'd still rather game on a 360 than a ps3. heck, i'd even go out and buy another one(elite).

You don't need a debug kit to run homebrew? How exactly does this work for retail? Is it only XNA, or can you do C++ with DirectX too? (I hate .NET)

It should be XNA only - and XNA is supported by XBL, I believe it was pushed out last update. You just have to go to the website and sign up, pay the $ and such.
