Kobe's missing all by himself.
I think he's off tonight.
TP is doing a good job quarter backing the offense, and Finley and Bowen are making points so Duncan doesn't have to...
it's one of those nights where our depth really shows.

Ugh, gotta listen to this game on radio.
How are we moving the ball? How is Bowen's defense on Kobe?Ball movement was excellent in the second quarter once the Spurs realize the Lakers were packing the paint.
Third quarter the only thing they have going is TP's jump shot. Which fortunately has been enough.
Kobe came out on fire on both ends of the court, but Bowen doing his usual pestering keeping him from going off.

Im all for taking the main guys out in a blow out to give the other players time on the court but i mean.... your worried about them getting hurt in the last 5 minutes of a game.... yet they play 82 games a year and like 5000 minutes a year...

I don't think so. He had some pretty weakass attempts. I hardly saw him use any of his post moves on any of the bigs.
Kobe was the one who blocked the shit out of him. And then Ronny Turiaf??
Tim was just weaksauce tonight, he could have tore them apart if he had a good night.
edit: They DID double him before he even got the ball I noticed sometimes...but that doesn't excuse his pussy lay up attempts.
Also in the first quarter, he had a cake walk to basket, and then the ball flew out of his hand uncontested! So yeah, it was more him, than it was the D.

It's simple. Why risk injury to star players when the risk is unnecessary?
Im about 99% sure the reason Pop takes out the starters in blowouts is not because hes worried about them getting hurt... its to keep them fresh and give the other guys some court time. I can understand if Timmy gets injured during garbage time, people will say oh he shouldnt have been in there... but i mean its a sport, you have the same risk of being injured during the 5000 minutes you play during the season... as you do in the 5 minutes of garbage time in a blowout.
Thats not the reason Pop rests the starters in blow outs..

We got 2 points total out of both centers, got out rebounded by 10 and Tim goes 2 of 12 and we still win?
This team is very deep with capable backup players at every position. This may be a really fun season.

You seem to miss the crucial point. Yes, the chance of being injured in garbage time is the same as being injured in non-garbage time. But the difference is necessity. You NEED to play your stars in non-garbage time. You DON'T need to play them in garbage time.

This team is very deep with capable backup players at every position. This may be a really fun season.I hope the depth keeps them focused, i.e., they'll always be able to find a group out there that will play hungry.
Otherwise, it will be hard for them (and the fans) to not just wish for the playoffs to get here.

The other factor is that it's considered unsportsmanlike to continue to play your starters in a blowout win. Running up the score is not cool.
Tim was awful tonight, but shit it happens... if he plays like this against Dallas we will lose...because Bruce isn't going to go 6 for 6 on 3's again.
How quickly you forget the 2003 playoffs when he went 7-8, also against LA. He also had a great scoring game in the 2005 Finals against Detroit, Game 2 I believe. Bowen isn't a go-to guy like Manu but he has games like this left in him.

I hope in the Spurs case, they take this season's early success due to our depth as a blessing, where winning begets more winning.
If they can keep enjoying themselves and collecting the W's, then we should be fine.
I was surprised Pop didn't try to rest the players earlier than they did. The players also mentioned that they had a lot of fun against New Orleans in that blow out.

refer to Nuggets vs Knicks last year... as others have said, it's not necessary to play the starters when the lead is so high up. it's not just the risk of getting injured. bad things can happen anytime so you want to protect your stars as much as possible.
weird for Pop to put them back in tonight though. He was probably scared Kobe was going to pull a T-Mac.
