NEW YORK -- The NBA has spoken with the Los Angeles Lakers about a sexual reference coach Phil Jackson made in a comment following Tuesday night's game in San Antonio.

The Spurs made 13 3-pointers in their 107-92 victory, and Jackson was asked if too much penetration was leading to open outside shooters.

"We call this a 'Brokeback Mountain' game, because there's so much penetration and kickouts," Jackson said. "It was one of those games."

Heard about this and thought it was an idiotic statement. It calls into question what goes through Phil Jacksons mind, not that theres anything wrong with that.

Typical. He hates losing to us, we have always tarnished his Lakers squad of the early 2000s and continue to do so.

Phil must think this is 2001 if he still thinks the Spurs can't make an outside shot. Looks like he got outcoached.

I trying to figure out how you can make that statement. Phil Jackson only lost to the Spurs ONCE in the playoffs. Unless you're talking about regular season games. :rolleyes

maybe so, but what does that have to do with the quote that the Spurs always tarnished his early 2000 lakers?

thats a good point well made... can't say I get what he's talking about. Still we did win the title in 2003, 2005, and 2007 so in that sense, we owned everybody. Maybe that's what he was referring to :lol

If anything, seems like Phil was knocking his own team rather than the spurs. I guess he ruffled some feathers with his brokeback reference. :lol

That's what it sounded like to me. When, as a team, you let yourself get manhandled ... the Brokeback reference doesn't come as much of a shock. :spin

NBA: Jackson's remark in poor taste

NEW YORK (AP) -- The NBA has spoken with the Los Angeles Lakers about a sexual reference coach Phil Jackson made in a comment following Tuesday night's game in San Antonio.

The Spurs made 13 3-pointers in their 107-92 victory, and Jackson was asked if too much penetration was leading to open outside shooters.

"We call this a Brokeback Mountain game, because there's so much penetration and kickouts," Jackson said. "It was one of those games."

The 2005 film, which won three Oscars, depicts two cowboys who conceal their homosexual affair.

"The remarks are in poor taste, and the Lakers have assured us such remarks will not occur in the future," league spokesman Brian McIntyre said.

Dana Jacobson and the guy with buck teeth need to do a big interview and make sure this comment gets blown up. I mean PJ really did make a reference to homosexuals there. Better interview John Amaechi and Tim Hardaway to get their thoughts on this one.

EDIT: throw in mike gundy for good measure

The NBA is right to reprimand Jackson. that remark he made was in poor taste.

HOUSTON - Coach Phil Jackson said he deserved the reprimand he got from the NBA on Wednesday for making a sexual reference in a comment following the Los Angeles Lakers' loss in San Antonio.

The Spurs made 13 3-pointers in their 107-92 victory on Tuesday, and Jackson was asked if too much penetration was leading to open outside shooters.

''We call this a 'Brokeback Mountain' game, because there's so much penetration and kickouts,'' Jackson said. ''It was one of those games.''

The 2005 film, which won three Oscars, depicts two cowboys who conceal their homosexual affair.

''But in retrospect, it wasn't really funny,'' Jackson said on Wednesday. ''When you take it out of context, it wasn't funny. It was a poor attempt at humor and I deserved to be reprimanded by the NBA.''

Still, Jackson couldn't resist making another joke as he apologized.

''If I've offended any horses, Texans, cowboys or gays, I apologize,'' Jackson said.

Jackson thanked beat writers and other journalists who covered Tuesday's game for dismissing the comment as an innocent joke. He said several of them laughed when he said it.

The NBA did not.

The penetration part was possibly humorous but the kick outs doesn't seem to relate to anything. In the end, not really a great joke, and not worth getting offended over.

He was, but some people are so obsessive about the Spurs on this board, that Phil and the rest of the world revolve around Spurs.

After the Tim Hardaway brouhaha, was anyone really surprised by the NBA's overreaction here?

I don't see the problem here.

All Phil was saying is that the Spurs tend to fvck his teams in the a$$.

Sounds like a reasonable statement to me...the Spurs do after all.
