good thing about this is that dallas beat us playing their best game, scoring 63% from the field and hitting everything and it was still close at one point. on the other hand the spurs played like garbage except for the 3rd quarter. I'm pretty sure at full power and for things that matter mavs can't win if this is the best they have.. OMG 63% FG!!!
dirk only had about 16 points, so obviously he could do better.
while that 63% shooting was cuz of sloppy defense by the spurs and cuz bowen and finley did absolutly nothing out there

bottom line is parker was stopped, so the spurs were stopped

in the end, there was no big difference in FT, rebounds, TO, assists, steals, blocks, yadda yadda yadda. the difference was that our execution wasnt as good as theirs. they made shots against our bad D and we struggled to hit anything against them- 12.1% FG difference, and we actually took more shots.

this is why the defence is the most important element in a winning team.

Not gonna read 38 pages, but I assume someone has mentioned how god awful Finley has been lately.

For a guy that is at a point in his career where shooting is just about the only thing he does, to shoot barely 30% from the field is pretty rediculous.

What's worse is that it's clear Udoka still does not feel comfortable in the Spurs system on offense or defense. I didn't think I'd be saying this, but there is some serious depth concern on the wings right now.

Can the Spurs keep starting Fin?

They made some contested shots but it is true we tried double-teams and after the pass we were almost always late on rotations - terry exploited this all night long but he wasn't the only one. They need to be quicker if the plan is to doubleteam.

Besides, Finley brought size and defense last year when he wasn't hitting his shots. I've seen nothing in regard to his defense that makes me think he can contribute effectively this year if he's not shooting the ball well.

there's a difference between being a bandwagoner that doesn't support his team in the hard times, and a fan so desperate to win that he'll do anything to make it happen.

I made my DUMP DIRK! statements because I was desperate to see this team succeed. I have been a fan of this team for so fucking long, I've seen so many miserable years that I couldn't take it anymore.

and I hate to say it, but I still don't see Dirk as being any different. I think the difference this year is that Devin, Howard, and Terry have said to themselves "we can't rely on Dirk, when he pusses out like he always does, we MUST pick up the slack". So far they have, hopefully they keep doing so.

am definitely concerned now. I know all the usual platitudes apply somewhat here. "It's early, it's one game." All of that is true but......

A 19 point deficit at half when we should've known to be prepared for them? There is just no excuse for that.

Losing 4 out of 5 and the one win when they were starting off slow last year and of course the 06 series.

As much as Dallas takes knocks (and deservedly so) for their pattern of failure the last few years this is becoming a pattern now as well and I think this article hits the nail on the head.

I'm disappointed Pop really did nothing about this matchup problem even before last year after this became obvious. No one is going to convince me that we couldn't sign an Udonis Haslem type that would join this Spurs team in a heartbeat solely to slow Dirk down. Maybe Udoke / Mahinmi is this player but since they weren't signed till this summer we won't know until later this year.

It just seems this team is in our heads.

I don't care that Devin Harris is one of the few fast players that is even close to TP's speed. If TP is the fastest player in the league then he should still win the race just not by as much. Also Harris isn't considered (is he?) a top 15 PG in the league so Tony needs to find other ways to play at an All-Star level when we play the Mavs.

Also other big men try to size up on Duncan (Yao for example) yet it seems only Sagana's size seems to bother Duncan.

This is what I mean, it just seems for whatever reason the Mavs are truly in the Spurs' heads (because of Avery?) and this article just reinforces that and I'm not really sure what we can do to rectify it.

I know I'm really going off here but this pattern of losing to the Mavs while crushing every other team in the league is really starting to be a problem.
