Anyone want to take a stab at who will win each bowl game this year? I'm still looking, but will post my predictions here soon.

I hope West Va. rebounds and destroys Oklahoma so I can stop hearing from Sooner nation how much they got shafted, even though they lost to two unranked teams this year.

My roommate (from OU) said with a straight face yesterday that they're the "best team in the nation."

Is there a national contest? I couldn't find one in MYSA.Com, SI or ESPN.
Could someone start a poll in the Club, to get more people,to partake,or maybe Kori
could do it. Winner gets bragging rights or whatever.

That's not a bad Bowl game. I hope they kick the tar outta Georgia. If they can beat Arkansas a team that just beat LSU then I think they can hang with anybody in the country.

It's amazing how delusional OU fans are. It's like they're all on the same crack that Venables uses. I heard two of them at the liquor store on saturday saying how after they beat Mizzou no doubt they will be ranked number 1.

The only one that means anything is a definite route in the making, LSU owns this game if they played today, tomorrow, or two months from now.

What's Arizona St's history in meaningless bowl games? Somehow I think they tend to choke when they get there, so I actually like our "shittiest team since '98" to pop them, and that's much more of a slight and complete disrepect towards Arizona St. because I think they truly suck. I know we suck, but I think they suck worse. They have to prove otherwise to me. All other bowls aren't even worth my time.

Arizona State has a decent record in bowl games - they only lost the Hawaii Bowl last year because, well, they were playing Hawaii and had a lame-duck coach. Their last trip to the Holiday Bowl was a 34-27 loss to a K-State team that ended the season ranked in the top 10. They beat Purdue in the Sun and Rutgers in the Insight in their other two recent bowls.

I also wouldn't call the bowl that most people consider better than some BCS matchups this year to be "meaningless."

If it doesn't determine a champion, and the winner of the game doesn't have a chance to later become champion, then it's meaningless except for the people who actually paid money to attend either institution... OR to the people who care about games that lead you absolutely nowhere. The NC game is a horrible matchup, but it leads somewhere and determines something. All the other games are all fluff and no substance. You win and whoooooopie, you get nada. You lose and you get nada.

RonMexico

So how is any bowl other than the NC "worth your time"? If Texas wins, I don't want you posting about the win or cheering for that team since it's meaningless.

I think the Buckeyes' 'route' to the game is by airplane and then I bet they drive from the airport once they land.

When did they beat Arkansas? They beat Alabama a few years ago.... but they are not going to kick the tar out of UGA. That's very wishful thinking.

Correction they lost to Alabama 2 years ago.

Under June Jones, the Warriors are 8-10 against B.C.S. conference competition. During that span, the Warriors have gone 0-3 against major conference opponents on the mainland, falling to Southern California in Los Angeles in 2003, to Michigan State in East Lansing in 2005, and to Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 2006.

No Mark Richt-coached Georgia team has ever lost a non-conference game to a team from outside a B.C.S. conference

Remember Boise State from 05. UGA was suppose to have a close game with them and we saw how that turned out.

So, as a lifetime Arizona State fan and a Texas A&M graduate, this bowl has quite a lot of "meaning" for me. Also, I resent you saying the Pac-10 co-champions "suck worse than you" since Texas lost to OU on a neutral field, K-State at home, and A&M on the road.

I would agree that at least half (16) of the 32 bowl games are meaningless to non-fans, but this bowl season is chock full of great and interesting bowl matches, including such questions as:

"Does Arizona State 'suck' like BeerIsGood says they do?"

"Is the SEC really that great of a conference?"

"Will OU get busted by a healthy Pat White and will Sooner fans finally STFU with their 'what if' questions?"

"Will Kansas prove they deserved a BCS shot over Missouri?"

"Will Mizzou destroy a Nutt-less Arkansas team in the Cotton Bowl to avenge their snubbing?"

"Will Ohio State fight back for the Big 10 or get blown out again, continuing the conference's slide to 2nd tier in every major sport?"

"Will anyone care about the Houston Bowl?"

"How boring will the Illinois-USC game be except for the 'Pete Carroll Face vs. Ron Zook Face' drinking game (i.e. the battle of gray-haired clueless looking buffoons)?"

"How much does it suck to have to watch Tulsa, Bowling Green, Rutgers, and Ball State play during the 4 days between the Orange Bowl and BCS NC?"

"Will the Sugar Bowl finally prove that Colt Brennan is just a cocky, shitty system QB?"

even the biggest UT homer better hope Rudy Carpenter doesn't have his A-game, what with the Horn defense's uncanny knack of missing tackles and blown coverages.

I've said since week 3 that we suck this year and it's our worst team in years. I never expected them to win as many as they did. If you had paid attention you'd know better.

Still, our worst day is better than aggie's best.

If they were title game bound. Not BCS. I felt the same way during the Rose Bowl of '04. Well, even when they were in the title game in '05 I didn't pay attention to the other bowls, even BCS bowls. I was just getting more and more jacked up waiting for the title game.

Nutt-less hahahaha...good one...

Mizzou will beat Arkansas by at least 2 TD's. The only reason it will even be close is because of those 2 great RB's in McFadden and Jones.

can't make any money betting chalk for every game. Another thing.. has anyone seen the line for the BCS Championship Game? It opened at 6.5 and has moved anywhere from 2-2.5 points to 4. If you know betting, you know what that means..

I saw an interesting stat the other day regarding the Championship game: LSU was beaten TWICE while #1 yet is STILL in the championship game. Kind of reflects the whole whacky CFB season. Some other things to note (re: LSU):

* LSU lost in 3OT to Kentucky while at #1. They dropped just FOUR slots to #5.

* LSU later lost in 3OT to Arkansas while at #1. Again, they dropped only FOUR slots to #5.

* Kentucky and Arkansas both ended the season outside of the BCS Top-25.

Contrast that with some of the other 2-loss teams:

VTech: Lost to now #2 LSU and #14 BC.
Mizzou: Lost to now #3 OU twice.
WVU: Lost to now #21 USF and unranked Pitt.

LSU was the voters' darling this whole season. They did nothing but under achieve the whole season (with exception to the Va Tech game) and the voters where still sold on what they saw. LSU lost 2 games to teams outside of the top 25, and should have lost to Auburn if not for a last minute play, could have lost to Alabama, and had to use defensive TD's to get by a shaky Tenn. team. I'm not sold on LSU. They might very well be the best team in the country, but I have yet to see it. I've watched every single one of their games with the exception of the Ole Miss game, and I have not seen the team even close to where they were against Viginia Tech.

Now, here is what I think. I think the voters voted them so close to the top for one reason: money. Outside of a playoff, there is one major change that could happen to better college football- no preseason polls, and no voting untill October. How could it be that nobody at ESPN or in the press would bring this point up? It's because they use these preseason polls to sell magazines and other forms of media. If teams where just teams, people wouldn't care. Look at the top 5 from this year (I might be a little off)
1. USC
2. LSU
3. West Virginia
4. Texas
5. Michigan

During week 8 (I think) they were wrong on every single one of these. Not one preseason top 5 team was in the top 5. What does this do to their credibility?

Now you might be asking: "Alright so how does voting in October change things?" and the answer is simple. If there is no standard by which teams are judged-by which I mean if there is no blueprint to how teams should be voted, voters can vote for what they really see. The 2004 Auburn team should be the biggest advocates of this. If they were ranked higher at the beginning of the season (before they even played a single down), they would have been BCS Champions. Same goes for LSU, if LSU was preseason #15, and lost the same 2 games they did this year, they wouldn't even sniff the BCS Championship Game. It's all about saving face. Voters will vote along the lines of what they did in August, even when the teams had not even played a single snap. It's just wrong, and this could help college football....but nobody will say anything about it because there is too much money tied into preseason hype.

i agree with almost all of that, but teams do drop like rocks when they lose...normally. it just depends how they lose. LSU had a bunch of injuries, went through a tough schedule, and only lost in overtime. considering they are a top team, i am not surprised they stayed near the top even with those losses. so, disagree about voters trying to save face, that makes zero sense to me.

but it is about money, and they probably shouldn't have polls until after the first few games. however, pollsters will have an opinion about who they think the top teams are going into the season anyway, so i wonder if if would make that much of a difference...

even the biggest UT homer better hope Rudy Carpenter doesn't have his A-game, what with the Horn defense's uncanny knack of missing tackles and blown coverages.

Maybe it was Rudy Carpenter who should have hoped the Longhorns weren't going to kill him. He with shitty offensive line should not provoke the Longhorns.
