That guy played tough all game long. I have nothing but respect for the dude now.
Meanwhile, the guy on his team who's been shittin on Rivers all season long was sitting on the bench like a little fucking coward. You can say whatever about him reinjuring himself, he's the one that talked shit about the Pats the last 2 meetings, he's the one who wouldn't even sit next to his own QB, he's the one throwing hissy fits, he's the one who said he was almost 100%, and he was the one who wouldn't tough it out in the most important game of his career, instead sitting with his helmet on. LT is a cowardly bitch, end of story.
Hats off to Philip Rivers though, that guy gave a gutsy performance and proved just what a tough motherfucker he is.

The 1st **INT** clearly being a pussout by Chris Chambers, as Phil Simms noted.
The first field goal the Chargers settled for now Chambers admits: "Chargers wide receiver Chris Chambers blamed himself for running the wrong end-zone pass route on the play immediately preceding the first of Nate Kaeding's four field goals." (Beyond that Chambers has been a great reciever, no doubt).
Also the 3rd and a yard and a half with Chargers only behind 14-9, with Norvall calling for a sideways run instead of two punches up the middle.
Yeah that's Rivers fault.

Playing QB and having an injured knee is much different than making a cut as a running back with an injured knee.
Whatever though, you've never had respect for Tomlinson so this thread doesn't surprise me.

LT didn't seem too terribly hurt as he casually walked off the field after a 1 yard "holy shit i gotta get outta bounds!" catch. The dude bitched out and you know he did, but I understand that you don't want to admit it.
And I doubt playing QB with a torn ACL is any less difficult than whatever LT may or may not have been feeling. Philip Rivers showed that he had the heart of a champion and would risk everything to be in the Super Bowl. Too bad his biggest critic on the team didn't feel the same way.

Knee injuries are no joke dude, especially for someone that cuts the way LT does. I don't think there is any RB in the league that would be able to play effectively with a busted up knee, and most coaches would not allow them, because a knee is not something to play with. If one thing goes wrong, that is the end of his career for sure. There is a MAJOR difference between a QB and an RB playing on a bum knee.

If you believe he could have been out there but chose to sit you are a fucking moron and I was wrong about you. Two reasons he sits: 1. If not 100% and he goes out and plays and can't gain yardage, what good does that do for his team when there is a 100% healthy Michael Turner waiting to back him up. 2. If he gets hit on his knee again and injures it further his career could be over. Personally, number 1 has far more to do with it than other reasons and I'm glad LT sat (although I don't think he wanted to) so that a healthy RB got a chance to help his team.

wasn't LT close to 100%. he said that all week. he wasn't even on the injury report. he wasn't that hurt. the three hits he took weren't even that bad, and he walked off the field on his own power with nary a limp.

Playing any sport with any kind of tendon or ligament damage is not easy or fun whatsoever. I screwed up my ankle once and tore some ligaments and damaged some tendons. It didn't really hurt that bad, and I could run around on it, and i didn't feel a whole lot, but when I tried to get out and play a game of basketball on it, it was a completely new experience. I had no explosiveness, any hard cut on the ankle was very painful, and there is a restrictiveness that you feel, that is very hard to explain.

Don't be a stupid fuck. The point is, the ankle is a highly used joint in basketball, much like the knee is a highly used joint in football, and any ligament/tendon damage is very hard to play with. And I have played football with a bruised knee bone, and even that was not very easy to do. Obviously you wouldn't know, because you haven't had to deal with such injuries.
If I were you, I'd be more concerned over the fact that you were scared shitless by a team that had a QB with fucked up knees, and was missing the best RB in the NFL, and there was maybe a 2 or 3 play difference between them winning or losing against the Patriots, as opposed to finding new ways to talk out of your ass and unreasonably bash a player that you personally dont like.

I can't claim to have played on either a sprained MCL or a partially torn ACL. But I can claim to have played football at a high level and understand what injuries do and how they affect a player at a certain position. For you to think that playing QB or RB would be the same on an injured knee makes you look ignorant and it makes it so obvious you just want to take shots at LT.

looks like i'm not the only one questioning LT's heart.
"You understand what T.O overcame to get back in the game, what Plaxico Burress goes through each week, and what Philip Rivers went through to play. LT told us he was close to 100%. The problem is, when you tell me that, I have expectaions, and when you don't meet those expectations, you open yourself for us to try to guess. Now what's the problem? You're a big-time player. And big-time players must play in big time games.
I know a lot of people will give LT a pass and say we don't know what happened. As a teammate, as fans looking on, it must be a surgery for him to get a pass on this one. I hope he comes up with something in the offseason, nothing severe, but a surgery for him to get a pass on this one."

“I just didn't have it,” Tomlinson said later, having traded his uniform for a pinstriped suit. “It wasn't going to cooperate, and I didn't have (any) burst. ... You're helpless. You can't help your team at all. I'm kind of at a loss for words.”
The Chargers had characterized the injury Tomlinson sustained last week in Indianapolis as a hyperextended knee, and team officials may have created some false hope among fans by omitting LT from their official injury report Friday. Yet Tomlinson said yesterday the injury was originally diagnosed as a sprained medial collateral ligament, and that the tenderness returned with “the first lick” the Patriots applied.
“Injuries are injuries,” he said. “Sometimes your body tells you it ain't going to happen. You've got to listen to your body sometimes. Obviously, I want to play, but if I did try to play, I would have been hurting the team because I didn't have any explosiveness and I wouldn't have been myself.”
Looks like they could have been lying about his injury all along.

Well if its that big of an issue, then the team should get fined. Although I don't think that failing to include a hurt player on an injury report, when everyone already knew he was hurt, and he started the game, is quite on the level of cheating by recording audio and video of opposing teams playcalls, thus I dont think a half-mil fine and stripping them of a first rounder is necessary.

IMO, I feel that he wasn't saying that in a way to exalt himself, but in the sense that the media and fans built him up as being an extremely classy guy, hard worker, etc... and he was apologizing for acting the way he did, considering everyone views him as being this great, classy guy, and aknowledged that he did lose his temper. I don't understand how they can get bitter over that either. To name a couple examples... one of their players is the dirtiest player in NFL history. Another one was so mad because they finally had to play a tough game, and because they barely squeaked out a victory, he was so bitter that he yelled "you fuckin suck!" in the opposing CB's face. Another one was mocking fans during a victory in pittsburgh. There was another one who was yelling at an interviewer after beating Indinapolis because the media "disrespected" the Pats all week because some of them felt that Indy would win. And all of this comes from a team that "doesnt listen to what other people say to or about them, and doesn't get caught up in anything the media says".
The team is full of fucking two-faced faggots.

They have a good young core of players. Jamarcus Russell showed some nice flashes when he got some PT. They really need a good downfield threat at reciever though, but they got some good possession guys in Jerry Porter and Ronald Curry. Their OL still definitely needs some work, but was a little better than last year. Justin Fargas showed that he can be a good NFL running back, but probably not a full time back. Lamont Jordan had a nice start to the year, but dealt with some injuries and is still not a true full time back, and is better suited as a backup. Perhaps next season him and Fargas can be kind of like Julius Jones and Marion Barber.
Their defense has lots of talent. Unfortunately, their offense can never consistently sustain drives, so the defense is on the field for massive amounts of time, making them very susceptible to the run later in games as they tire out. They need to spend most of their picks in this years draft working on offense, and finding a good DT to replace Sapp and solidify that run defense. Fabian Washington and Nnamdi Asomugha is a very solid CB duo, definitely one of the better duo's in the league, and they are both very young still. Thomas Howard and Kirk Morrison are some very underrated LBs.

Mel Blount couldn't handle Troy Williamson. I give zero credit to any DB who made his name playing during the "no pass interference" era. Sorry if you have good ol' days syndrome about slapdicks from the 70's, but DB's have gotten so much better over the past 25 year's it's incredible. The way they play basically with one hand tied behind their back due to how easily penalties get called, along with far better technique, and I'll take Champ Bailey or Ty Law in his prime over ANYBODY who ever played in the 70's.
Ty Law > Mel Blount, in either era. Blount couldn't play to Law's level in this era, and Law could manhandle receivers with ease in Blount's era.

Philip Rivers practiced today so he is the starter for Sunday.
After listening to Mike Vrabel on NFL Network, I think he unknowingly gave away some strategy for Sunday. It's probably no secret that they don't want the Chargers to run it and play keep away from Brady. That tells me LT is going to face 8 and 9 man fronts.
It will be interesting to see how Norv counters Belichick. I think he's going to throw it. Jackson and Chambers proved against Indy that they can make plays. And they will probably get plenty of one on one matchups. Imo, they shouldn't concern themselves too much about ball control. They should just be aggressive and trust their defense.
Everything is in the Patriots favor. They're at home. They live in the cold weather. The Chargers are limping in to the game. No one in the media is giving the Chargers a chance.
But what people fail to realize is that San Diego has as much or more talent than the Patriots. They have more than a chance. It's all about execution. Experience is great and all but I have seen less experienced teams win huge playoff games. The '92 Cowboys come to mind on the road at San Francisco. And who was the OC for that team? Yep. Norv Turner.

Which rule are you talking about? There were two rules changes to open up the game, one in 1977 and one in 1978. Blount played from 1970 to 1983. He was all-pro and a pro-bowler in '75, '76, '78, '79, and '81. He was all-pro in '77. That tells me he played through rules changes and still excelled.
He couldn't cover Troy Williamson? You being such a hardcore Patriot fan must remember Mike Haynes. Could Haynes cover Williamson?
And on my prediction, I stand by it. I didn't expect for LT to get hurt so early in the game so that kinda of killed my prediciton. Also, the wind was pretty strong in the first half which kept the game under on the points.

Mike Haynes style was alot more conducive to the way defensive backs play now. I don't think he would not be a Hall Of Famer in this era, however. The 70's are the most overrated era of the NFL by a longshot. Lots of old timers won't let that decade go which is why it gets the respect it does.

You didn't answer my question about the rules changes. You called it the "no pass interference" era. What years are you talking about? Pre 1977? Mel Blount played until 1983. Yeah, he was physical. But he had speed and he was a great athlete. So was Rod Woodson. So was Lester Hayes.
Mike Haynes wouldn't be a HOFer in the modern game? I call bullshit. Your arguments are laughable.
Next your going to tell me Gale Sayers, Jim Brown, and OJ Simpson are overrated.

I have called out Mono for being a bandwagon guy many times on this site, and at least Mono has argued the matter and brought up past Pats teams to defend himself, but the above statement from Stretch is the truest and gayest thing I've ever read on this site about another poster. How much vested interest could you have in a team if you are from Canada and stated earlier that your teams never lose.
The only way I'll accept that this dude isn't the gayest bandwagoner ever is if I found out he's only 10 years old (which judging by his posts he may be) and he started watching sports when he was 4 and didn't know any better but to root for the best teams.
In closing San Antonio Spurs -> YOU ARE THE GAYEST MOTHERFUCKER TO EVER POST ON THIS SITE................good job.

LT may not have been in excruciating pain, but he knows his body and probably had a good idea of whether or not he could help his team more in his current condition than Turner and Sproles. I have a hard time believing he didn't want to be out on the field for the biggest game of his career. Who knows? I don't have a really strong opinion one way or the other.

Yeah we all know that Pro Bowls are good indicators of player excellence. *cough*RoyWilliams*cough*
Mike Haynes style was alot more conducive to the way defensive backs play now. I don't think he would not be a Hall Of Famer in this era, however. The 70's are the most overrated era of the NFL by a longshot. Lots of old timers won't let that decade go which is why it gets the respect it does.
Mel Blount's entire game surrounded being physical and manhandling receivers. His game has no adaptability to today's game.
I would agree with you about Williams but not about the 70's or Blount. While I don't think every all-pro or HOF'er would be able to adapt, I think several would. If you combine their natural talent and athletic ability with the technology and advancement that today's players have, I think several players from that decade would be successful now.
By the same token, I think there are several players today who could have played then but I also think several couldn't because of the lack of advantages they have today that didn't exist then. Receivers now have the luxury of the post 1978 pass interference rules. With as much as a lot of today's receivers bitch about contact....I would like to see what they could do when you were allowed to bump them down the field.

I felt fine before, but thanks for asking.
I could care less of when and why you became a fan, why don't you? :lol
Well, it's an internet site dedicated to discussion and debate in regards to first and foremost the Spurs and beyond that, other sports and teams. So when you come in here and claim to be a fan of all these winning teams, it bothers people because you have thus created a douche bag type of a persona for yourself online and most likely, this follows you into reality as well.
You need to feel better for yourself on the internet by calling others bandawagonners? :lol
Again, I felt fine before calling you out for what myself and obviously others have noticed, that you are a bandwagon fan.
whatever makes you feel less miserable :drunk
You see, the problem with people like you are that people like us cannot take anything you say in regards to sports seriously. You are an LSU, Red Sox, Pats, Spurs, Duke, Yankees, etc, etc type of fan and we know that once any of those teams start losing, you'll jump ship to whatever team you know will be easy to root for. You are the kind of person that bitches about politicians and then never votes. You suck as a sports fan and it's evident in your posts.
Again, saying this doesn't make me feel worse of better about myself, but I know it bothers you because it's true.
Then again, why I'm having a discussion in regards to "sports fan ethics" with a 10 year old is totally fucking beyond me.

Let's revisit this theory that Mono states as fact, while watching it from the comfort his TV/Gaming Console.
and he was the one who wouldn't tough it out in the most important game of his career, instead sitting with his helmet on. LT is a cowardly bitch, end of story.
Dr. Mono claims the injury was nothing, and LT was cowardly for not playing. Anyone remember Adrian Peterson coming back from an MCL sprain the next week? How bout Priest Holmes, how long did he take to come back from his sprained MCL? Cedric Benson, he sure didn't come back after a week and try to play on his sprained MCL. Yet LT, who tries to come back a mere one week later on his sprained MCL is a pussy.
And to your comments about him sitting on the bench the whole game.......you weren't at the game were you? Why not wander over to the Patriots board and talk to folks who were actually at the game, then go check out the Chargers board and talk to folks who were actually at the game. Both will tell you LT was not sitting on the bench the whole game as the broadcast made it seem. From what I'm hearing, (wasn't at the game either) LT was up talking to M. Turner and the Oline and wasn't sulking on the bench the whole game as you'd like to believe. You've got a lot of nerve to run your mouth and spew bullshit when you've got absolutely nothing to back it up.

With 9:14 left in the second quarter, word came over the press box P.A. system: "LaDainian Tomlinson has a sore knee. He can return."
Then Norv Turner came out after the game and told reporters, "The doctors and trainers said he couldn't go."
If I didn't know better, I'd think he was lying.

after being taken off the injury report completelyYou just can't get over that can you. Just come out and say it then. You feel the Chargers weren't playing fair by leaving Tomlinson off the injury report, I've got no problem with you saying that. But to pussy foot around the topic and call him a cowardly bitch because he wouldn't play on a sprained MCL?

I don't give a shit about the Chargers cheating on the injury report, if in fact they did it. But they didn't. The fact that they'd hide LT's injury completely while making Philip Rivers' injury such public knowlege makes zero sense. It makes zero sense for them to cheat on the injury report.

It is true, LT was not injured. Tomlinson pulled me aside and asked for a doctor's note that he could hand to Norv after the first series stating his knee was too fragile to play on. He was overwhelmed by the pressure of the big game and decided it was best to fake an injury and let his backups play for him. Don't believe me, just look back at the Indy game. Did it surprise you he sat out the whole second half with another fake injury?

He stated what I stated, LT deserves the benefit of the doubt.
