Duncan Records Milestone In Spurs' Victory

Miami, FL) -- Tim Duncan surpassed the 17-thousand point mark for his career in the Spurs' win over the Heat last night. Duncan finished the game with 30 points. He needs just 1,359 more points to tie Julius Erving for 50th on the NBA's all-time scoring list.

Duncan could conceivably move up to the 11th spot...or even 10th with a deep playoff run this year.

His average post season is 15.33 games and 364.67 points. He never has that average post season, though. Spurs either flame out in round 2 or go all the way. If they flame out, he may not even catch Wilt at +325. His 'out in the second round' points vary from 186 his rookie year to 336 in 2006 with that monster series he had against Dallas. If they win it all, he'll most likely catch Magic for #10. He only needs 419 for that, something he accomplished every championship year except 99 when they only required 17 games to wrap things up.

Projecting his average over 5 more post seasons, he could reach 5105. I'm not sure that he can do that with the shared scoring load, but even slightly under 20 ppg, he should crack the top 5.

Wow. He's pretty up there. Ofcoure among the greats. He still has more post seasons to play so I'm sure he definitly be top 10 at the end of his career

what an elite list. Nobody can deny Duncan & ShaQ(if healthy), the only active in the shortlist, are top dogs in the league. In the post-Michael Jordan/Olajuwon era they were the only ones(except 2004), who led their teams to titles.

DRob's misfortune was that so many of the teams that he was on were mediocre at best. He only had 7-8 really healthy seasons, and several of those were first round outs. By the time of the '99 and '03 deep Championship runs, he was a complimentary player and not scoring much per game.
