In less than 60 games the big man will be 50th on the NBA's all time scoring list
Miami, FL) -- Tim Duncan surpassed the 17-thousand point mark for his career in the Spurs' win over the Heat last night. Duncan finished the game with 30 points. He needs just 1,359 more points to tie Julius Erving for 50th on the NBA's all-time scoring list.

In less than 60 games the big man will be 50th on the NBA's all time scoring list
As long as he averages 20 points, it will take 68 games.
Does this only factor regular season games?
Were is he on the all time playoff scoring list? Anybody know?
1. Michael Jordan 5987
2. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar* 5762
3. Shaquille O'Neal 5045
4. Karl Malone 4761
5. Julius Erving* 4580
6. Jerry West* 4457
7. Larry Bird* 3897
8. John Havlicek* 3776
9. Hakeem Olajuwon 3755
10. Magic Johnson* 3701
11. Scottie Pippen 3642
12. Elgin Baylor* 3623
13. Wilt Chamberlain* 3607
14. Tim Duncan 3282
15. Kevin McHale* 3182
Duncan could conceivably move up to the 11th spot...or even 10th with a deep playoff run this year.
His average post season is 15.33 games and 364.67 points. He never has that average post season, though. Spurs either flame out in round 2 or go all the way. If they flame out, he may not even catch Wilt at +325. His 'out in the second round' points vary from 186 his rookie year to 336 in 2006 with that monster series he had against Dallas. If they win it all, he'll most likely catch Magic for #10. He only needs 419 for that, something he accomplished every championship year except 99 when they only required 17 games to wrap things up.
Projecting his average over 5 more post seasons, he could reach 5105. I'm not sure that he can do that with the shared scoring load, but even slightly under 20 ppg, he should crack the top 5.
The man is amazing.
There is no one in this league I would rather watch. Keep the flash, the acrobatics, the pizzazz.
Give me Duncan any time, any day.
But that doesn't surprise any of you, does it?![]()
Wow. He's pretty up there. Ofcoure among the greats. He still has more post seasons to play so I'm sure he definitly be top 10 at the end of his career
Definitely not a surprise, duncan228.
I am in agreement. I have enjoyed every minute of his career and I am looking forward to watching him win a few more rings.
what an elite list. Nobody can deny Duncan & ShaQ(if healthy), the only active in the shortlist, are top dogs in the league. In the post-Michael Jordan/Olajuwon era they were the only ones(except 2004), who led their teams to les.
that's why I'm really proud to be a Tim Duncan fan.
I already forgot what DRob ended with.

DRob's misfortune was that so many of the teams that he was on were mediocre at best. He only had 7-8 really healthy seasons, and several of those were first round outs. By the time of the '99 and '03 deep Championship runs, he was a complimentary player and not scoring much per game.

cool stat find.
Not surprising, considering that he holds the Finals record for blocks from 2003. Thirty two of those blocks were from that ONE SERIES.
