Go Lakers. Ugh, I almost puked typing that out. We need to put as much distance between us and Dallas and New Orleans.
General convention would say to root for the Lakers to help expand our lead on the division. Winning the division this year looks like it will be no small feat.
However, looking forward to possible playoff matchups, I think the Spurs have a better chance of beating the Mavs on the road than the Lakers, so I want L.A. to pick up any loss it can.
If only there were some way an iceberg or something could hit Staples Center.

The Mavs are still a decent team even though they lost their matchups edge against us. Give them a little credit. Key word, little.
Nothing pisses me off more right now than hearing about the Lakers. Like Barkley said on Inside the NBA, they got Pau Gasol for a fucking happy meal. Talk about the Mavs and Stackhouse trying to trade him when they knew he would be waived and then the Spurs beating the Mavs at their own game doing it with Barry, but how messed up is that? Can I get Van Halen to come play my birthday for a pack of smokes and some used toilet paper?
And scrubs like Jordan Farmar and Sasha Vujacic playing like they are Scottie Pippen and Steve Kerr. Seriously. WTF?
I think we could beat both of these teams in the playoffs but all this Laker hype is lame.

The Lakers are getting the hype because they are stomping all over their opponents the way championship teams do. The Spurs may be #1 in the WC, but I can't tell you how many games they've pulled out of their ass with some 4th quarter heroics from Manu Ginobli. They must have at least 5-6 wins alone on his game winning shots this season. Dominant championship teams do not struggle to put away crappy teams the way the Spurs have this season. You can blame injuries all you want, but Parker was playing as good as ever and had a ridiculous statline tonight and they still barely pulled off a win.
A little known fact that most people don't know is that last season DAL did not have the highest point differential, despite having the best record in the league by far. It was SAS who had a point differential of 8.4 to DAL 7.2. We all know who ended up winning. I'll let you guys figure out where SAS stands in that regard this season.

Then explain to me how you lost to the Seattle Supersonics if they aren't a respectable team?
The reality is winning on the road is a tough thing to do, no matter who you play. The Lakers played nearly every game in the month of February on the road, including a 9 game road trip in which they went 7-2. They have yet to be blown out by anyone and were in a position to win against DET, ATL, and even POR late in the 4th quarter. All of this despite not having their two best defenders on the floor. Things are only going to improve when they get back.

Something's gonna give when you try to adjust them back into the rotation. You don't breed championships in a year. Kobe and Shaq played together for four years before they won their first championship together. Not saying it's going to take that long, but it ain't gonna be in one year.

Now that I agree on. My money is on DET to win it all this year to be honest. They are the most complete team and have tons of experience playing together.
Still, I think Bynum and Pau are going to fit together nicely. I mean Pau was born to play the PF spot in the triangle offense. He's very mobile for his size, great midrange shot, can post up from anywhere, and is a great passer. Bynum won't be asked to do much offensively except crash the boards, set screens, and dunk the damn ball.

Suddenly, in the middle of the paint, Terry and Bryant start fighting each other.
Bryant with a huge headbutt broke Terry's nose. And geysers of blood spurt all over the place.
Then Terry threw himself on Bryant and tear off a piece of his left ear with his teeth... a great strident scream came from Bryant's throat while Terry look at him with killer eyes... He smile and swallow !
Gasol run off the bench to help his teamate, slip on the blood... and broke his right leg !
David Stern shout "BENCH RULE, BENCH RULE" !!! Before being elbowing by a bunch of Lakers fans. That a KO for David !
At that time Nowitski crash into Dampier, because it's his thing !
Jason Kidd want some, and lunges toward the lakers cheerleaders.
The girls strike back and Kidd can't escape.
Phil Jackson is boring.
Avery Johnson shout at the refs : "Nowitski was foulded !"
Two days after, the results of (as press called it) THE HUGE mess !
Each team has a loss for the game.
1 year suspension for Kobe Bryant.
1 year suspension for Jason Terry.
2 matchs "bench rule" suspension for Pau Gasol (broken leg : season over)
Jason Kidd still recovering from his balls ablation. The cheerleaders were really hard on him !!! He is expected to be out for life in NBA... But who knows... WNBA ?

Yes. For sure. The Spurs control their own destiny. If they win out, they will be nbr 1 seed in the west. But not to worry so much about that, as making sure they clinch a playoff spot.
Of all the teams out there, I think the Spurs require HCA the least of any of them. And we probably aren't going to catch Boston or Detroit. So, somewhere along the line, the Spurs are going to have to win in their house if we are to repeat.

I would prefer the Mavs to win, but hey, this is a win-win game for the Spurs. The Mavs lose, we are four games ahead in the loss column. The Lakers lose, we are two games ahead of them for the top seed. Any Western conference playoff team loss is good, because the West is so tight. The Spurs need to take care of business against the East teams.
FromWayDowntown
03-02-2008, 03:38 PM
Honestly, at this point the conference is too tightly bunched with too many games to go to hope for a particular outcome. The Mavericks could do the Spurs a big favor by winning 2 or 3 of their remaining games against LA. But in winning those games, what would seem to be reasonably likely losses for the Mavericks become wins and diminish the Spurs' margin of error going forward, particularly because the Spurs don't yet own a tiebreaker with the Mavs.

Actually, now I want Mavs to win. Going to OT is enough of a confidence boost, so losing here won't demoralize them. Might as well help our standings then.

unconsciously found myself rooting for the Fakers. Can't root for the lil' Mavs under any circumstances.

Eh would've been good for the Spurs for Allas to win, but they as usual choked.
Stiffs.
