They threw the ball to Dirk and Odom got his hand on it..Dirk was at the top of the Key, he threw an up fake Odom fell for it and he missed a very difficult 3 point shot.

I wouldn't call that a choke job. He was forced to take a difficult shot. If it was a wide open jumper then it'd be Dirk choking.
I can live with a shot like that going for the win. In fact I blame the inbounder Dirk got open pretty fast from the set play, and the guy inbounding delayed the pass to Dirk.

The way the West is, the playoffs have started. You can't take a quarter off, much less two and a half. No excuse for not protecting your homecourt against an undermanned Laker team. That hustle and intensity, where was it in the first half?

I mean bottom line, Dallas is very talented and very good. But the effort they put forth over the final 18 minutes needed to be there for 48. And they're at a distinct disadvantage in every game when it comes to coaching. It's because of shit like this that I just can't have any real faith in them. I'll root for them and continue to watch the games, but I don't trust them.

The way Kidd is being utilized in big games is very disturbing. Avery barely trusts him to bring the ball upcourt, than he hands it to stack or jet.

The only thing I'll say is that he's sometimes too team-oriented and unselfish for his own good. He's got to take that shot there when the help defender is closing off his angle to the basket instead of passing out. I wouldn't question his heart, character or physical toughness. He plays hurt on two permanently sprained ankles.
And yeah, Avery is just mystifying the way he uses Kidd. He'll be gone in May anyways.

Avery is just great:
Kidd played 27 minutes. Dampier played 19 minutes. Okay, he got 2 fouls early, but foul trouble in the first half does not mean foul trouble in the second half. Would've been nice to have him in there in the final two minutes for rebounding purposes. No Kidd to inbound on the final play.

I'm pissed about a lot of things:
- no funneling Kobe to the baseline and a second help defender when he started dribble penetration off the wings in the first half. That's how Houston held him to 11-33 shooting.

my 4 biggest keys to the game and what do they have in common...AVERY :madrun
- avery takes George out for Craphouse when Devean was guarding Kobe very well and getting rebounds/loose balls
-Damp 9 rebounds in 19 minutes but he does not play him on D at the end of the game thus the mavs give up 2 crucial offensive rebounds, one to Sasha and one to Odom which resulted in 4 extra points
-27 minutes for Kidd is ridiculous against a top team in the west
-have your lowest BB IQ guy in J-Ho throw the ball in and hit Dirk in the ankles and have the best passer in the game standing in the corner

I have no idea what Avery is thinking about JKidd, you traded away your future to win now but then when the game is on the line, you don't use the guy. Just doesn't make any sense.
And yup, when JHo hit Dirk in the friggin foot on the inbounds, you knew the Dirk wasn't going to make that last shot.

Once again, another game where Avery's over-coaching and confusing loyalties come into play. Too much Stackhouse tonight. Why aren't they playing their bigger lineup against a team missing Gasol and Bynum? Never allowing a lineup to get into a flow because the coach is constantly barking from the sidelines and swapping out guys every time play stops.
The talent and the potential are there. When they play at their best for a full 48, they're pretty amazing and can take out anyone. Thing is - how is that ever to come to fruition when they have these long lapses and the coach doesn't know what to do?
I hate this loss because it magnifies the 0-6 vs. +.500 thing, Dallas will once again be put under the microscope and the fears will come out (despite almost everyone around them losing recently, as well) and we'll all have to endure the talk of the trade being a bust.
We've all talked over the past few weeks that they had to take 2-3 from this 3-game stretch. Well, that simplifies the goal for the next two. Now they have to win them both. I'm not on the ledge. I was there for the game and could tell there was a discernible difference between that first half slop and the extra gear from midway through the 3rd-on. They're capable of great things.
But Kidd fucking blew goat cock tonight. And did I mention Stackhouse?

I agree completely. This team has some incredible potential. They just gotta make sure they peak at the right time. That is all I care about. If they peak the way that Golden State did last season, then they might be just about unstoppable.

I feel the same way. But I've basically lost trust in this team. They could start to win their fair share of games against other elite teams and I still would not feel good heading into the playoffs. I don't get Avery at all -- Kidd plays 27 minutes, and doesn't inbound the final play? WTF? I understand Avery going with the quicker lineup and riding it while they were getting us back into the game late in the third, but Kidd didn't check back in until halfway through the fourth. WTF?
As for the players, this is a must-win game, the Lakers had their own reasons for approaching this game with urgency, and our players don't hustle and bring 100% effort in the first half? The playoffs have already begun.

The trade wasn't a bust, they wouldn't be doing any better with Devin right now. And there are only four "gimmes" left - that gets them to 48 wins. I think it will take 52 to make the playoffs, 55-56 to get a good seed. They're going to have to start winning their share of games against elite teams to make the playoffs.
I agree the potential for this team is high, but they have yet to prove they can put it all together, from the coaching staff to the players.
