a) he won't opt out.
b) if he does, it is because he wants FAR more money than any team with a brain is willing to pay.
c) he was unhappy in PHX that he was often the third option. how will he feel in San Antonio where he would be the FOURTH option?

That sums it up perfectly.
Marion has never struck me as a team first kind of player.

I agree but maybe the real opportunity of getting a championship could change his mind.

No way he opts out.... whats he on now, $17 mil?
He would be losing a minimum of $5mil next season if he opted out.
Hell play out his contract then probably get his last major contract probly at around $8-10 mil per

Sure, and let's get every other superstar free agent this offseason. Cause you know how there is never money involved.

i don't buy it. he's always said that he would rather be THE guy than win a championship.
to be truthful, at least half the league probably feels that way, they just won't admit it.

i'd be shocked if we grab any names this offseason. most likely add a veteran who can fit into the rotation and get younger at the end of the bench. and that would be the smart play at this juncture.

He would be perfect in our system. Why not try to sign him?
I think in SA he'd get all the props and attention he could possibly want since we are a defensive-minded team, and it's our offense that gets overlooked and underappreciated, not our defense.
He could be a force on defense for us, and his defense/importance wouldn't be overlooked here, unlike in Phoenix, where the offense was so damn good that whatever they (they = Raja Bell and Shawn Marion) did on defense just didn't matter and didn't grab the media's attention.

no, just used your statement as a transition into my thoughts on the offseason plan - which were nothing earth-shattering i am well aware.

With a few players leaving the Spurs next year like; Brent Barry, Finley, Horry, Stoudamire, and Vaughn, do the Spurs save any money?

Not saying that the money if they do save any if it works that way is to be used on Marion, but how does it work when a player retires.

I've been a closet fan of marion even when he was in phoenix, drooling at the thought he could play for the Spurs. Cross your fingers and hope he is willing to be a team player which would be unlikely but it's still possible to dream it.

Marion is a horrible team player and a whiny wuss. I'd never want him in a Spurs uniform. He alienates all his teammates, he's incredibly oversensitive (I mean really ... who goes to management to cry that cheerleaders are wearing other player's jersey's not yours) and he thinks he's an MVP candidate. He also needs to be constantly coddled. I don't really care what he does on the court as a garbage scorer and rebounder, he's not a good teammate.

I hate that dude. I've always hated that dude. I will always hate that dude. Hate his game, his attitude...I even hate his face! (that's a lot of hate, I know)
And I don't understand how a guy like Shawn Marion could EVER think he could be "the man" on ANY team. What do you expect out of "the man" on your team??? To be able to have the confidence to put the ball in his hands and let him do the right thing with it at least right? And to LEAD. You'd have to agree those are necessary components right?
Dude's not a leader, and you DEFINITELY don't want the ball in his hands with the game on the line or hell...for a posession. He gets the numbers he does off of other players dimes, slashing, and garbage points. Hell, he's just a glorified Cedric Ceballos...and Ceballos even led the Lakers in scoring one year, and he wasn't "the man"!!
Help me: where do we get the 17 million to sign him and then the money to fill out the rest of the roster? Come on.

"A horrible team player." "Alienates all his teammates."
Complete bullshit. Don't believe all the things you hear from the media, Kori. Marion was a Sun for over 7 years because the organization loved him, the hard work he put into every game, his unbelievable hustle, and the fact that he was always a professional on the court, even when he whined about being overshadowed by Stoudemire and Nash. He made his teammates better with his hustle defense, and by doing all the dirty work.
He's never been in trouble with the law, never starts fights on the court, brings his A-game, every game. He's a professional, albeit an overly sensitive professional... but I've never seen that attitude manifest itself in his play.
There's a reason why Shawn Marion was a fan favorite in Phoenix from the moment he was drafted. Apart from creating his own shot, Marion did just about everything while in uniform.
Carib or Xylus, how does this happen?

ROFL....
Those two things are mutually exclusive of each other.
You know how long that shit would last here when we have an MVP candidate coming off of the bench and a top 10 player of all time that doesn't give a shit about numbers?

The media would exaggerate just how unhappy he is, just like they always do. It wouldn't make a difference to his teammates or his team's play, because Marion gives his all whether he's personally happy or not with how the media treats him. That was my point.
And I don't think this would be an issue, as the Spurs would be a lock for the championship with Duncan, Ginobili, Parker, and Marion. Not just the favorites, but a motherfucking lock.

I've read :07 and McCallum never implied that Marion was a bad teammate, but rather a headache for the organization. Doesn't it speak to what a great teammate Marion is that they kept him for 7 years, made him the highest paid player on our roster, despite the fact that he was overly sensitive?
And whoever compared the guy to Ron Artest is a moron.
Edit: Big surprise, it was HighLowLob that said it.

That is just overboard insecurity. You could rationalize him being mad about not getting enough props, but this is just ridiculous.

You can always tell what a player is all about by their actions....
Joe Johnson going from Phoenix to Atlanta, etc. Marion's actions will let you know if it's about "feeding his family" or winning a title.

Actually I think Artest is a better teammate and team player than Marion. We tend to extend Artest's off court antics on to his player profile.
It's sad to go to management to complain that the cheerleaders didn't wear your jersey. I dont' if it is true, but if it is then W T F?
